"I've been pretty disappointed and am about to stop ordering. They have some cheap prices on some decent goods, and also have some pitiful Chinese junk. Everything takes forever to ship, and their shipping prices are too high. There is no communication after order confirmation regarding shipping, no phone number for customer service and no follow-up notice of shipping or a tracking number. I've been ordering from them for a couple years and my best experience so far has been barely mediocre. I realize you have to keep costs down, but there's a point where keeping costs down hurts business, and they've definitely crossed that line with me, because I don't order fromt them anymore unless time is not a concern and the combination of their price plus shipping charges is significantly below what I can get it for on eBay or elsewhere. At times I'm surprised they're still in business."

I have ordered bare bones systems, used computers, motherboards, and other components as well as alot of small gadgets. I have had minimal problems. "Surplus Computers offers a variety of things people with a digital lifestyle need that are a good value and delivered reliably. If you are tech savvy and know what you're looking for, the information presented about their products online is useful, the pictures are an accurate representation of what you get, and I've had no unpleasant surprises. The best values are the ones with free shipping, because if you're going to buy less than $50 worth of stuff the shipping always seems to be half the cost of the order. They really need to look into the fixed-rate shipping boxes from the post office, because if the shipping wasn't so much, I'd order from them a lot more. My favorite thing is they often have items that are on the unique side and can be hard to find, especially if you don't live in a major metropolitan area with a Fry's or something. The products may not be major brands all of the time, but they are good, functional, and reasonably to very nicely priced except for the shipping cost. Occasionally they will run out of an item before I get to it, which is disappointing, but understandable. Accordingly I sometimes eat the pricey shipping to get exactly what I need, because if you went to a big box chain or got a name brand essentially the same item would be at a higher price, and unfortunately the shipping makes up that difference. Regular shipping is also often not as prompt as a lot of people who sell through Amazon or eBay, which is also disappointing. Once the order arrives though, I am generally quite pleased with the value, especially if what I need came up under free shipping, which is usually a pretty nice deal. I definitely thing the 6-month 4/10 rating is unfair, and would rate them more along the lines of the 8/10 their long-term average is listed at on this site; the number would be even higher if it wasn't for the shipping costs."

"I miss having will-call / retail presence for Surplus Computers since I'm local to them. Having to pay shipping costs on small items which weigh almost nothing is annoying when I can drive there in 10 minutes and pick it up. Seems like will-call service at a warehouse would require minimum effort and provide huge customer satisfaction (and less work for the company - no need to pack and waste materials, etc.) Maybe they will consider this in the future? :-)

"Prompt shipping, and the items were just as I remember the ad describing them. Charges for shipping, insurance, and handling aren't included on the prices in the e-mail ad, and they can be substantial, but you can cancel an order if they make the whole price quit seeming like a bargain. On my last purchase I bought two 'personal sensor power strips' that turn off something like a desk lamp and computer monitor if you've been away from your desk for a while. (You can adjust how long 'a while' is anywhere from about 30 seconds to 30 minutes.) One is installed and works great. I got two because shipping on the second was cheap; I think I'll use it on the TV my eleven year old plays video games on.

I've bought several gadgets from Surplus Computers over the last few years, and I've always been happy with their business practices.

I look forward to reading their ad when I see it in my e-mail. The descriptions in the ads are usually well written and informative, as well as accurate. They sell some fun stuff, including gadgets that are marked down to prices I don't mind paying to see if they're fun."

"Good prices on items, HOWEVER ... their shipping is exhorbitantly high. Also, many times you will put in an order and the items won't actually be delivered because they're not in stock. If they're not in stock, they should list them as being out-of-stock on the website!"
