"Ordered a refurbished BFG GeForce 8800 Ultra video card, received it a week later. The video card was falling apart when I received it, the cooling fan was not attached and a capacitor fell out of it. I requested an RMA, which took a total of 1 month before I had the replacement in my hands. They didn't even send me the same item, they sent me a cheaper model instead, and their website says they still have the one I originally ordered in stock. They do not respond to e-mails, and that is the ONLY way to contact them. I submitted another RMA request and I'm still waiting to hear back."
"Ordered two refurbished Dell PC's. Unfortunately, it looks like UPS dragged them behind their truck from California to my office. One did not power on so I contacted customer service for warranty service. 3 weeks and no reply, they don't even have a phone number posted on their website. I swapped processors with a known good and got it running. Now I have a parts machine. POS Buyer Beware!"

"I've just received notification that my order has shipped today, 28 July 10. Over a week from creation to shipping - I think that is very slow service for a retail vendor. It's good I didn't need the purchase sooner. Once I receive the product I'll be able to review it...assuming it doesn't take over a week to work. "
"Purchased a Symbol PPT 2700 barcode scanner/PDA from this seller on Ebay. I was in the process of moving into my new house and since the scanner/PDA did not have a charging cable included, had to order a cable before I could test it. I finally received the power cable and tested the unit. The scanner, which was the feature I purchased the unit for, does not emit a laser light. The PDA itself is wonky and does not work correctly. I am not able to get back to a main (home?) screen because there is no way to close a subset screen. I requested a simple exchange for the same unit in working order and the management told me that because 60 days had passed, they would not make good on their merchandise. So now I own a PDA that doesn't do anything/a scanner that does not scan, and a separately-purchased power supply cradle and cord ($26.95 plus shipping and tax) that is useless to me. I believe the unit was known to be a non-working unit when it shipped and the seller hoped that I would be using it as a PDA and not as a scanner. I am now out close to $100 and will never buy another item from this seller. "
"I ordered an HP Proliant DL360, Dual Xeon 3.0Ghz, 3GB, 1U Server.
I received the server in perfect condition and in time. It was a bargain for what I paid and was able to use it immediately. If I want to get another bargain server, I'll definitely get it from surpluscomputers.com.
The only thing that would make them a 5 star computer re-seller is having a phone # to inquire about specific technical questions about the products."
"I have shopped with these guys ever since they were Software and Stuff. Always an interesting selection of products and decent deals. Items for sale are well-described and have a warraty.
I don't understand the "high shipping costs" complains i see here though.
1 - Shipping is comparable to other online shops. 2 - The product pricing is usually low (they dont jack up the price of the item to advertise "free" shipping).
3 - If you order multiple items they always combine shipping.
4 - UPS rates have gone up over the years so stores have to charge more to ship stuff. There is a minimum charge UPS has whether it's a stick of RAM or a box of lead.
5 - they recently lowered shipping rates - it's probably barely covering costs (once you count packaging and paying a guy to box it up)
Overall this is a good honest vendor. I will continue to do business with them in the future."
"The order arrived quickly and in good shape. It was packed well. Surplus Computers did a good job of "statusing" the order via e-mail.
The only downside is no phone access for anything. However, they are prompt replying to e-mails, and as noted do status you on the order.
I am using one of the products I ordered preparing this note.
I have complete confidence I will be ordering from Surplus Computers again.

"Company has, overall, a good record. HOWEVER: every once in a while, they will either advertise an item that they don't actually have, or that they have a very poor supply of, so that you go into "Back order hell" when the supply (if any) runs out: the company doesn't give you any date for when the item may be available. (if ever...) At least they don't charge you for the item while you're waiting...
As I live within a day's drive, even items shipped "ground" arrive the next day."
"I ordered a laptop this time around. It arrived in decent shape in a reasonable amount of time. It fired right up the first time. Its battery does not hold a charge but they were very clear on the web page that the battery was not guaranteed. No big deal.
I've been ordering from Surplus Computers for years and have yet to have a DOA or a bad experience. Sometimes the shipping charges have been on the high side but it looks like they are responding to customers' complaints about that. Recent emails from them have plainly stated the new shipping costs.
Overall, I have no negative comments from my experiences with Surplus Computers and will continue to be a customer. "

The only criticism I've had in the past was the high shipping rates when they WERE charged. I see that recently those rates have been lowered, and I'm glad.
