"WARNING-DO NOT BUY FROM STARMICRO: I purchased AthlonXP2100 (AX2100DMT3C)it arrived dead. I installed the CPU, new heatsink/fan, PC would not POST or boot. Only power supply started. When I took the heatsink off the chip came off attached to it. I called AMD Tech Support and was told that it doesn't happen and that it must have arrived damaged. I called StarMicro and "tried" to explain even had him look at the picture on his website, he still couldn't understand what the small chip on the top was. I sent it back to them. Sent couple of emails that went unanswered. Finally, next email generated this response: Dear Customer, We have received your returned part and the CPU is damaged.You told us that the lids of the CPU came off but the lids are in good condition. And the chip is off. At this time we cannot process your RMA. As per the company’s Return Policy any damage made at the customer’s end cannot be refunded or replaced." Once leaves shop it's your problem. BUY ELSEWHERE, HORRIBLE COMPANY, DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR SALES. "

"Good prices / Fast shipping.

RAM (Memory)

After placing original order, I had given STARMICRO the incorrect billing address. They called me ASAP to notify me and was quick & painless.

No complaints about this company.

As far as RAM goes, if you're not picky about brand names and just need inexpensive RAM, I'd recommend using STARMICRO to fit the needs. As long as you order all the RAM you need in 1 order, you'll get matching brands.

"I've read some negative comments about StarMicro but I have to say that I found just the total opposite. I ordered a OEM AMD 6000+ and found the service to be Professional and Customer Satisfaction Oriented. Working with StarMicro I was allowed to return the 6000+ (125W) because agreement was made to exchange it for (89W) version...however, they continued to keep me updated but after a few weeks...they agreed to refund the full amount (excluding shipping). StarMicro showed me they are truly 'Customer Satisfaction' Business and all one has to do is call if you have a issue and notice the Professionalism they exhibit."

"What a bunch of incompetent cowboys! When I placed order with them they said my CC did not provide billing address hence they can't process the order. And yet two weeks later they shipped the purchase even though I bought the stuff from elsewhere! Took them 3 days to respond to my first email. And when they did it contained totally irrelevant info. They have failed to provide any solution to this situation. They're a joke..."

"A SUPERB transaction!! I ordered a BUNCH of Kingston-branded RAM early Monday morning, and later that day I had a UPS tracking #. StarMicro had this RAM *much* cheaper than anywhere else; I searched all the major sites (Pricegrabber, Pricewatch, etc), and even used Google. I'm glad to be a repeat customer of StarMicro!"

What I got was cheap knockoff LEI brand memory that was not recognized by my board. I had high density Kingston memory installed already and these jokers tried to claim that my board doesn't support HD memory. This is called THEFT BY DECEPTION! Also known as "bait and switch". Don't use these thieves!

"Athlon XP 2800 CPU registered as 1.3 GHz versus 2.08 GHz (had evidence that it was a pull), despite upgrading the motherboard BIOS. Customer service was prompt and I returned the CPU for another one (I did not get reimbursed for shipping). Received the second CPU and it registed correctly and worked fine. The only gripe I have is the lack of a CPU installation manual or some instructional document."

"I ordered new memory. I received memory in an old unsealed anti-static bag; no original packaging. It has an IBM UPC. Appears to have been pulled from old equipment. I think I've been deceived. That is despicable. I'll never use Starmicro again and advise all not to use them."

" bought a DDR2 PC2 4200 512mb memory module for Dell Inspiron E1405. The memory arrived dead. After having verified that the memory is indeed compatible (the Inspiron's internal memory turns out to be the same exact model from the same manufacturer, Hyundai), I called the customer service / RMA dept again.

The guy at Starmicro discouraged me from filing RMA. First, he repeatedly threatened that if the memory turned out to be functioning, I would have to pay a re-stocking fee. Then, he went on to blame Dell for the problem - claiming that some of his customers had the same problem and that he himself had to deal with the same problem with his own laptop. He also claimed that I would have to sort it out first with Dell. At every turn, he found others to blame.

Weeks went by and I got tired. My 90-day warranty eventually ran out. Horrible customer service.
