LCD screen adhesive failed and screen fell off

"I purchased a gaming laptop from ORIGIN PC in October of 2020. I received the laptop and was pleased with it until recently when I lifted the screen lid and the LCD screen separated from the lid. Upon further inspection, the adhesive used to hold the screen to the lid failed. I had been using the laptop for only a couple years and maybe used it for roughly 6-8 hours a week on average. The adhesive should have held up much longer. I looked up this specific problem and it appears several others who purchased ORIGIN laptops experienced the same issue with varying time frames (some had their laptop a couple days while others had it for a couple years like myself). I contacted ORIGIN PC support and found that nobody was answering (they are supposed to have 24/7 customer support over the phone). When I got no answer, I sent an email to attempt to have my issue resolved. ORIGIN PC tech support responded that I was outside my warranty and sent the condescending message of "If it were a defect then the issues would have risen before the warranty expired". I understood that I was outside of the warranty; however, the way in which ORIGIN handled my ticket item and their responses are not the traits of a quality or trustworthy company. A further email of the tech support agent verified that ORIGIN actually uses cheaper, less robust adhesive in their laptops. It was stated that if they used stronger adhesive, it would make repairs/replacements of the LCD more difficult. This made me question why they were getting so many repair requests for their screens. Are their screens cheap and lower quality as well? What other components that ORIGIN installs are lower quality? ORIGIN said that I could still send in my laptop, but I would be responsible for all expenses (shipping/repair). Based on what happened when ORIGIN built my customized expensive laptop, I decided it was best to handle it myself. Be careful when purchasing a computer from ORIGIN PC. I feel I may have been luckier than others."

I bought 2 top of the line systems with watercooled NVIDIA 3090 cards

"First off, the 2 "identical systems" that were $6K each were NOT identical. From how cables were routed in the system, how water lines were ran, where the reservoir was mounted. They installed 3 fans in backwards on one system. Zero consistency.

I contacted support about the inconsistencies and got a generic reply that multiple people build the systems and they do it differently. Right... No comment on the backwards fans though.

We started having what appeared to be air in the lines on one system and when gaming would lock up since the CPU was getting hot. This is one of the times I was actually able to get a support person on the phone without waiting for days to get a call back, etc.. His suggestions were to turn up the pump RPM to see if it could push out a possible air bubble. That didn't help, I rotated the system to work air through it and that seemed to help. In reality it just put some more fluid on the CPU block to keep it cooling better.

Kept having issues, contacted support again, the took days to call back, I couldn't wait for them. I found out on my own that the pump had failed and a bunch of garbage was pushed into the cooling system. Played some tag on trying to get with support, I ended up replacing the pump myself, flushing the system and getting it back up. When I finally can connect with support at a reasonable time, they cant do anything or wont do anything.

In actuality, a single corsair reservoir and pump that pushes through a vertical radiator, then goes into the GPU block, then into the CPU block (gotta love that pre-heated coolant) then through a horizontal radiator at the top of the system... its not a wonder the pump burned up, it was a crappy design to begin with. I had to add 2 reservoirs/pumps and isolate a radiator and coolant block for both the CPU and GPU separately. This is how the system should have been built. I am in the process of making this change on our other workstation that is now starting to have poor coolant flow.

Long story short - they shouldn't be building or supporting high end systems. They lack the consistency, they lack the skills and they lack the support when people drop big money on a glorified PC.

Most regrettable purchase of my life

"My $4,000 Origin laptop has had nothing but problems. The speakers have stopped working, it crashes, it's PAINFULLY slow for an i7 with a RTX 3080. It can't handle 4K or even 1080p @ 60 hz. It basically does NOTHING I bought it for within a year of ownership. Oh and by the way, they took too long to ship it to me and the return window was closed by the time it showed up and they didn't care."

Do not buy an OriginPC (read my story)

"I purchased a $6+K system from OrigingPC in 2017, used it for 8 months and packed it in its wood crate until now. I just realized these guys didn't add a drain valve!!!! This is what their customer support agent recommended me doing:

CS: "On the bottom of the case where the dual radiators are is there a valve there? If so can you use that if not we will have to get a bucket that fits in the case and gently remove one of the tubes off and drain it that way."

Me: "If you mean a drain valve, no sir, whoever built this $6+K system in 2016 thought it won't require maintenance even and forgot to include such a basic thing. Please see attached picture."
Me: "So you are saying that to drain this $6+K system, all owners have to remove a valve from a difficult to reach radiator, put a bucket below a VERY heavy system and get the water that pours through the case?"

CS: "I do see I do apologize. In this case we have seen some o four customers put a bucket under the GPU with paper around just to catch droplets that splash. The water we use is not conductive so even if it hits a part it will not cause any issues. With that said and the bucket under the gpu you can remove the tube to the GPU and let it drain from there."

Me: "That won’t drain the water below that point, will it? You have to drain (ideally) from the bottom of the system. GPUs are too high IMO. I just realized I'm on my own on this. :("

Consider yourself warned and buy a nice bucket and a crane.

"I placed an order on Sept 19 for pre-built corsair i300 ($4100) with 1-day shipping, somehow the order shows `Cancelled` on their website without any excuses. I contacted them and they gave me another link that I don't have access. So far, no response."

An honest review of my first Origin Computer and first Origin purchase

"I just bought my first computer from Origin, I have honestly been a Dell guy before this, my last computer was an Alienware 17" laptop fully loaded. My current computer is an Origin EVO-17S fully loaded.
I bought a custom skin with my EVO, when I got it out of the box the skin had bubbled and chipped off a little bit on the edges. Origin offered to reprint it for free. I opted not to do that. I am overall satisfied with the response of Origin in that matter.

Staff rating:
Origin Marketing and sales staff for when you buy the computer, I give a low rating to like 4 out of 10 stars. When I was buying this computer I was doing a lot of research on it, does it have a numpad? How many power cords? Quality of the webcam? How much storage can I fit in it? Processor type? Most of the sales people would answer one or 2 questions and then leave the chat. It was annoying, one guy I forget his name unfortunately, he persevered and answered all my questions. I found out the webcam was comparable to my Alienware, which is important, because I use zoom a lot. I found out the keyboard on the laptop does have a numpad. (to be honest the numpad is not as nice as my dell laptop, because the numpad does not have its own enter key and the 0 on the numpad does not take up 2 key spaces, but half of it is taken up by the left arrow key.) My Alienware laptop had a much nicer numpad. Dell Alienware does not have a numpad anymore.

Production staff:
The people who actually made the laptop I would give the full 10 stars to, they were excellent, they kept me up to date, they answered all my questions, and they made sure that I got exactly what I wanted. They are awesome! I do only have one wish but understand that they couldn't do that. Origin streams the production of their desktop computers, I wish they did with their laptop computers as well and gave the video to the purchaser of the computer, that would be a great marketing idea for Origin, in my opinion.

Warranty staff:

I honestly haven't used them much yet so I can't really give them a rating, however given my laptop skin came bubbled and chipped I have used them for that. Although I didn't opt for them to actually fix my laptop. I would also give the warranty staff a 10 out of 10 star rating.

Design:
The skin bubbled on me and chipped a little, however it looks awesome! I would rate that at 8 out of 10.

The keyboard layout is a little uncomfortable. It feels like it has too many keys for its size. The numpad feels squeezed which is odd since it is a 17" laptop so the keyboard has lots of room. The insert key is on the numpad 0 key and only works if numlock is off and you hit the function key, on my Dell laptop the insert key was on the delete key but as a function key so it didn't matter if numlock was set or not, like my dell the keyboard is back lit and can be set to any color which is pretty cool. Overall I would rate the keyboard as 6 out of 10 stars.

The mouse does not have an actual left and right click button, they are both built into the mouse, it is a little hard to right click and overall it is quite sensitive to left clicking all the time when my hand is on the mouse. I would rate the mouse at 8 out of 10 stars.

Fans. The fans on the computer only kick on if I am playing a game which makes the computer do a lot of computing and they are not that loud. I would rate them at 10 out of 10 stars

Heat: I use a pad that came with the laptop, but it seems that the laptop doesn't get that hot even when being used in a game. My Dell Alienware would get so hot it would almost burn when making it do extra work, that wasn't using a pad though. I would rate the Origin laptop heat management at 10 out of 10 stars.

Power cord design: The power cord connector end to the laptop is at a 90 degree, the power cord does not have a light on the end of it showing you that there is power. My Dell power cord had a power cord on the end showing that there is power which is great and in that respect is better, however that is constantly coming apart on me and needs to be reinforced, also the connector end that plugs into the laptop is coming straight out on the Dell which I believe it is always coming apart and will ultimately damage the port in the laptop. I believe that the power cord connector on the power cord is a better design on origin than the dell, however the missing light on the cord itself is a little worse. It averages out however so I will rate it at a 10 out of 10.

The overall power of the laptop, I mean the component capabilities are awesome and I think blows away my previous computer, I.E. more memory, more storage, much faster processor, much better laptop. so that easily gets a 10 out of 10.

Overall the rating would be for the design would be: 8 out of 10 stars

my overall rating for Origin would be: 8 out of 10 stars. Still an awesome company and I think I may be an Origin guy as opposed to being a Dell guy. I hope

9 year customer, happy and excited to go for another 9 years

"My current PC has held up very well over 9 years. The CPU, GPU, and SSD operating drive have all performed very well. The AIO liquid cooling system seems to be going strong. I originally purchased everything overclocked but once the Arizona summer rolled around I ran into cooling issues, I called up Origin and I got wonderful help with how to get into the bios and undo the overclocking for a more stable build for living in the desert. I've only had normal use things come up, like maybe 6 years in some of the fans had their bearings go out and I had to replace them because they got noisy. It also looks like the sound card has been made driver and software obsolete by the manufacturer. Everything on this computer seems like it could physically keep going for a few more years. But I figure it's better to be safe than sorry, and upgrade to a new setup before my storage drives, or GPU go out and make transferring things to a new computer much harder. I have been very happy and satisfied with the computer Origin built me 9 years ago, and I'm very excited about a newer more powerful one. I have gotten wonderful help with many questions on the new build and I feel very confident about the purchase. "

A Great Company with a Great Product!

"I was finally ready to buy something "top of the line" for a gaming computer, but after years of building my own I was ready for someone else to take on the burden of making it all fit and making it look cool. Origin PC did a fantastic job on the build, couldn't ask for better quality of product or support staff! It was a seamless process end-to-end and one I am very grateful for!"

My First Real Desktop

"I decided with my desktop that I wanted to go a pre-built type route. Looking around I went through Alienware, Lyte, NZXT, etc. Finally I landed at Origin and used there configurator to customize and build my very own custom prebuilt. The interface was extremely easy to use and by the end I felt like I had a high quality gaming/editing machine! The best part honestly was the personalized communication I received with my Origin Rep, Jay. I had no issue wondering what the status of the process of the PC being built was due to how much communication I was actually receiving. Once the PC was starting to be built, I was informed of it. Once the PC was getting ready to be shipped or was shipped, I was informed of it. I honestly had such a surprisingly good experience going through Origin that I will no doubt go through them again whenever the time comes that I would need another PC. Thank You again to Jay and Origin for this high quality gaming machine!"
