Will never do business with them again

"I’ve been selling with ThredUp for a couple years, getting rid of maternity clothes, clothes that no longer fit after pregnancy, and clothes that fit right after my baby was born but no longer fit now that he’s 2 and weaned. At first I was fine with it. I get most of my clothes from resale shops anyway. However, I have had TWO terrible experiences selling with them recently and I’ll never do business with them again. First, I bought an expensive dress from a little boutique store in my city. I wore it once for three hours. The next time I went to wear it I realized I had lost weight (again) and I decided I would send it in a clean out kit. I failed to see the email when my kit was finally processed and I missed the 24 hour period where I could adjust prices for my items. I didn’t notice until someone had the dress on hold that they were selling a $200 dress for $14. They also had it listed under the WRONG brand name! I know, because I reordered the same dress in a smaller size from the brand that makes it in Australia! So I made about $2.40 or something like that. Then, just last week they processed another bag of mine (BAD decision on my part) and they did not accept a brand new, never worn pair of beautiful leather boots from the British company PO-Zu. In case you don’t know (and obviously no one at ThredUp knows this) PO-Zu is an eco footwear brand that designed and made all of the boots used for the Rey character in the recent Star Wars movies. They’re kind of a big deal. I sent an email saying “Hey, why weren’t these boots accepted?” And they replied saying their staff are very careful to look everything over and they must have found a flaw. A flaw? They weren’t even worn! How could you think a BRAND NEW pair of boots had a flaw? I was selling them because were too big and I didn’t want to pay shipping back to Europe. I will never again do business with them. I won’t even buy from them because I’ve ordered so many items listed as “You might mistake it as new” and the item arrives with pilling or stains. I can’t understand their quality control at all and it makes me furious. Only now I’ve read countless other reviews online saying them same thing: quality (like better brands with little to no wear) were turned down or sold for insanely low prices. I wish I had red up on them BEFORE buying or selling. "

Don't Do It! Donate on your own or list on Ebay––But Don't Do It!

"I've purchased from Thredup so I figured I would give the "clean out" bag a try. After losing weight and simply changing styles, I had a closet full of name brand clothes––many in new condition––that just didn't simply fit or I didn't like. Over all, I gave them 36 items––all in like new condition––all in style, almost all in season, riding boots still in the box. Names like Talbot, Karen Scott, NYDJ, Jones New York. They accepted 26 items, and the total payout for me, provided all the items sell, is a meek $30.
I understand they inspect the items, photograph them, and list them; but I could have done that; and with only a couple of the items, made just as much money on Ebay. I definitely would have received a bigger tax write off from Goodwill had I donated the items. Some of the items did simply disappear––a brand new pair of sandals from Macys. I have a suspicion they will most likely not be donated and listed out in the summer season. But those are the breaks. It would have cost me to have them send my items back....
If you're not into to reclaim some cash for clothing you simply don't like anymore, then yes, this the site for you. You are basically giving it away for someone else to turn a profit on. Pennies on the dollar is all you will receive––even for the high high end items.
I will continue to shop with Thredup, though, provided people continue to "give it a try".

seller beware

"I sent them a cleanout bag and they accepted 4/7 items; all were clothing. The remaining three were handbags and just disappeared without any notification. Only when I asked customer service did they say that the items did not meet their standard of quality even though the items were lightly or rarely used designer handbags (for example a Longchamp cross body that was in great condition). I can accept that they would sell something for a low price because of wear and tear or that they would reject one but post the other two, but all three were rejected. I'm really wondering if there is fraud involved or just poor operations (I was also a buyer and the refunds took forever to post. Half the time I had to call them for the refunds to be processed even though ThredUp had already received the item). When I read everyone else's comments I realized that my experience was not unique. It's too bad - it's a great idea but horrible execution. Needless to say I'm moving on."

Highly recommend!

"I was skeptical at first but decided to give it a try and happy I did. I purchased 17 dresses for $35 and received my order in 8 days. All items were in great condition, only 2 didn’t fit right but for $35 who cares!!! I highly recommend purchasing from this site."

RIP OFF DISHONEST COMPANY

" sent dozens of pieces of clothing to be sold, all in very good or excellent shape, All In Style, and some even still had the tags. Only a small percentage of all the items I sent even showed up on their site for sale. And make matters worse, no one could explain to me why the other stuff wasn't put up for sale or where it went. The items that did sell earned me to me a little over $10. A few of the items that didn't sell I could reclaim if I wanted to pay to get them back. This organization is nothing but a scam and a ripoff. "

made under two bucks for a full bag of gently-worn, name-brand clothing

"wow, this site is one for the record books. thredup offers a “clean out bag” so you can easily submit multiple items of clothing to them to resell without the hassle of listing each item on other sites. the items they actually accept are ridiculous; name-brand items are continually rejected for (a) not being in pristine/new condition (hello, it’s a *used* fashion reseller), or (b) not meeting their fashion standards [insert eye roll here]. i sent in a ton of clothing recently. the brands ranged from j. crew to modcloth to stella & dot to coach, and even a gorgeous $100 boutique cardigan i’d worn just once. most of my pieces were rejected, and the rest either didn’t sell or (even worse) netted me about 50 cents apiece. i made $2 total. items that didn’t sell were offered to be returned to me (you can either request a return or ask thredup to donate them). the catch: you as the seller have to pay for return shipping! i actually had to spend $5 to have my items returned to me. so, i actually lost money in the end. i was appalled. i vehemently and wholeheartedly urge everyone to steer clear of this fashion-clueless, remorseless scam of a site. what a joke."

Thieves and shady business practice!

"Thieves and shady business practice! I sent a giant bag of name brand clothes, and some brand new shoes, and got less than $2! They don't even return what they decide not to accept. If you read their newly added fine print, they can choose what to "accept" and sell everything else to other companies. That means they will never "accept" anything worth a lot because they can make more selling it elsewhere and they don't have to give you any credit. I would rather donate to a good cause or non-profit than give them money for nothing. They completely mislead anyone who donates. I assumed they would return what they did not accept, which apparently they used to do. I could have sold them for a lot of money elsewhere.

I don’t event want to give them 1 star

"This is the worst site resale site ever. I sent a bag of clothing and 2 pairs of shoes. Three items they deemed unsuitable were three barely worn designer pieces. They obviously took them for themselves. The site is filled with bad quality clothing, how could mine “not meet their standards”. Their customer service is even worse. They just kept saying. “I’m sorry your clothing didn’t meet our standards”. I will never use them again. You should use a more honest site like the realreal or poshmark. This is simply a phony tech coMpany looking to sell."

Never Sell Your Items Here

"I sent in 18 items, many of which were on trend and in good condition, and was offered .50 max on any item. Never sell here. You would make more money selling your clothes for $1 each at a garage sale than on this crappy site. The fact thredup pays out so little when they sell your items for $10, $20 is ridiculous"

Ridiculously Terrible For Sellers

"I'm still waiting for my money past the due date Thredup was supposed to pay me. I had to contact them about my missing commission, and they gave me the laziest song and dance about it being someone else's fault I'm not getting paid on time.

Look, mistakes happen, but this is a business. I didn't donate my clothes. I sent them into Thredup so I could sell on consignment. If Thredup couldn't pay me on time for some reason why didn't they fire off an email explaining the problem to me. Instead they ignored the problem and made it my responsibility to contact them and ask where my money is. Thredup took my clothes/purses/shows, sold them for profit and then ignored sending me my commission.

That is absolute garbage. And if their customer service had just apologized for the radio silence on their end I wouldn't be so salty. But they didn't seem to care, nor did they show any sign that they'd pull on their Big Business pants and communicate with sellers about late commissions in the future.

So with the lack of consideration on Thredup parts I say stay clear of them. I don't have my money, I'm out the nice clothes I sent in the CO bag, and I didn't get an apology about Thredup remaining silent about problems with paying me on time.

If you want to donate your clothes give the to the Salvation Army or another charity. Thredup didn't seem to get the memo that people selling on Thredup actually want their money and in the time that was agreed upon.

fake good reviews

"This was never a great resale site, but now it's worse. Besides the obvious fake 5 star reviews, the pay off on items sold is ridiculous. Yes, there is work on their end, but as a common example, I expect more than a potential $1.17 for a pair of last season's perfect condition Ann Taylor pants that are listed for $12.99 on their site...a 9% commission?...crazy:/"

Don't waste your time selling items - SHADY

"I ordered a few items from ThredUP and they were ok, but when I decided to sell items it was a disaster. They take your items, keep them for over a month, then give you a ridiculous offer. By then you have almost forgotten about the items and you've already paid them to ship the stuff so you go with it. The items they declined were a brand new Louis Vuitton bag with tags, new Talbots clothing, designer dresses worth over $500, etc.. They paid me a couple dollars for a pair of brand new (never worn) dress sandals. I later looked and saw they had the identical LV bag on their website for $628.00 and I don't think they sent me the original back. I think they sent me a fake back. This was a gift from a famous musician so I know the original bag was authentic. I don't trust them and their customer service ****. When I called about the items and the LV bag, they couldn't have cared less. It was basically "oh well." "
