Unethical Price Policies

"I had purchased some items pre christmas and had to return a jacket in January that was too small even though it was large. While I was there I looked to see other jackets which were supposedly clearance and "FINAL SALE" which is usually a red flag. At $300 it was still too expensive. Several weeks later I still kept getting emails indicating more sale items so I thought that perhaps they did reduce the jacket again. I also got a $50 coupon emailed to me with a minimum $200 purchase.
When I went to the store I found the same jacket also in large that did fit. But oddly enough it went up to $411 but still was promoted as being on sale. I actually found a sale sticker on the item with the $298 tag and reluctantly they agreed to honour the old "so called" sale price from January. But they refused to add the coupon since that would be double dipping. I pointed out to the manager that $411 price was in fact also a sale price albeit higher than the previous sale price so while she would add the $50 coupon to the $411 she would not add it to the $298 old sale price. I did tell her that their price policy was highly unethical.
It was only by fluke I saw the old sale price and it was clear they actually increased the price yet still called it a sale .
This place fluctuates prices almost like we change our socks. You simply cannot trust that the price you are paying is actually a good price. In fact in this instance the $298 was a FINAL SALE. No returns allowed. That made no difference since it was hugely overpriced anyways. Of course I did not purchase the jacket since it was clear this place alters their prices at will to suit the sales hype.
Oddly enough in December I went to the Eglinton store and found a couple caps that were quite expensive but I found them on their website for half the price. They had to match the price since it was the identical item but it just goes to show how their prices are quite fluid and the instore price is likely quite inflated or at MSRP prices.
In this day and age you'd hope retailers would be less shady.

Poor customer service

"Sporting life's customer service is the worse.
They will make it very hard for you to get a warranty refund.
You have to contact them every few days or else they will ignore your request.

"Sporting Life has the worst policies! Customer service can’t even fulfill the simplest request which just required them to make a change my order. And Customer has to cover carrier fee to return the product? No! Never again will I shop at sporting life!!! "

poor customer service

"bought a 1000.00 north face jacket a year ago and the zipper tore away from the jacket.
the manager and the customer service rep was discourteous and of no assistance.
told me i needed to contact north face and it wasnt their problem.

this is the very last time i purchase anything from sporting life. I will not be spending my money with them in future. They have lost a good customer.

Literally the worst customer service I’ve ever received

"Good Afternoon xxxxxx,
It has now been an additional 2 two weeks with no contact from the Calgary store. Over six weeks since our first correspondence. They are clearly too busy or to apathetic to meet the commitments you are making.

I have no interest in speaking to anyone at the local store level anymore. I’d like to speak to the Regional, District or National Director please. You’ve been lovely but this is, very literally, the worst customer service I’ve ever received. No follow up from you, your manager, the store manager or anyone else. The full onus of trying to drive resolution for a jacket, defective after 2 weeks of ownership left solely to me. I am ashamed to have done any business with such an unprofessional and dismissive organization.


Looking forward to hearing from someone in your Corporate office that is empowered to handle this situation or at least professional enough to speak with a customer.

Online Experience-Run Away-Run Away

"I have been trying to purchase skis or ~5 days from Sporting Life. They initially sold a set that were put aside at my local store. I was told that I could purchase them online. They wouldn't bring them in on a store transfer.
Trying to order online, the site was charging me PST. PST is not applicable on ski purchases in AB or BC. There is no customer service phone number. To be fair, I have, for the most part had good service at the store level. Online is the biggest joke ever. They should do themselves a favor and shutter it!

1 star is too gererous

"1 star is too generous . the only person reply email is a guy named Tommy and he is very rude has no customer service manner.

I ordered 3 items and only received 2. He told me they checked and packed so the order is fulfilled . and one of the 2 item I received wasn't even the item style I ordered. I can't return it?in store because the item number does not match my order. it is their fault and he didn't even apologize for the mistakes.

They refuse to send refund or replacement .

The worst customer service ever. Save your time don't order online so you don't have to deal with these craps

Horrific online shopping experience

"In the past I'd only ever gone in person to Sportinglife, and always had a positive experience. For the first time I ordered online from Sportinglife to take advantage of "Black Friday" deals. BIG MISTAKE.

I ordered four items. One item I have since been told is not available, despite being advertised as a Black Friday special and my having ordered at 6:00am on Black Friday.

One item, an expensive running jacket, was said to have been shipped. Instead I received a pair of cheap under armour tights.

One item I have received. One item I have heard nothing about. In the end, I may receive one of the four items I ordered from the sale - and will have missed out on the opportunity to order the same items from a different store with a Black Friday sale.

Multiple order errors, no customer service phone line (email only), no honouring of Black Friday deals despite clear errors on their part - this experience has permanently changed my view of this retailer, and I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future.

Horrible Customer Experience !!! 0 out of 5

"Really bad online shopping experience. Policy and processes do not allow an order to be cancelled, even though the mistake was realized within 2 minutes of placing the order. Unable to phone anyone -- email only ! and even though there was no possible way it was anywhere near the shipping stage, they refuse to cancel. So customer is on the hook to pay for shipping charges. Stay clear of this business !!"

I think one star is overly generous

"Found some boots online, but they were final sale (so no returns), so asked if they could ship to the Collingwood store from the Toronto store to try on. They said no due to Covid. Hmm.. But we could drive down to Toronto to try on. So my sister did (that's 4 hours return). 40 minutes in the store and they said - oops, we don't have them. Hmmm... So, little frustrated. Called to ask if given the run around, they could ship from warehouse to Collingwood store. No. Then thought, the heck, I'll order anyways. Oh but wait - the 20% off clearance sale isn't showing on checkout. Hmmm... So, contact again - in the circumstances, after a wasted trip to Toronto and back to Collingwood - could you offer the refund, and could you still honor the 20% off (cause it's been advertised, but won't adjust the price when I tried to order). Opps - now they say they are out of stock. Here's a $25 gift card. Really? They even have the same exact boot, just 1 year newer - and no offer for something better off that. Really? This isn't the first time their inventory is off - or do they just take their time taking off the floor and it's sold to someone in store. I don't know but I give up with this store - some ok deals, but too much headaches."

Online Purchases can only be returned to Store

"I do like Sporting Life, but will not purchase again online, we live 3 1/2 hours from the closest store, and they only do in store returns, not very easy to do, especially during covid. I purchase shirt that when I received it, it had a hole in the sleeve, but they said I had to go to the store to return it. They did offered me 15% off my next purchase. I told them I didn't want to make a next purchase. And thanked them. Very frustrating, they must be the only store who doesn't do returns on line. "

Sporting Life Cancelling "MEN" from Gender search!!!!!!

The only reason they get 1 star is that it's needed to write the review.
Was in the New Large High End sporting goods store yesterday looking for a ski helmet.
I was told that the selection is low and I would have a better chance of finding what i wanted if I went on-line.
Once home & on-line I started looking for helmets.....
click on Ski gear > Opens new menu of All ski gear > Click on Helmets > Opens new menu to shop by Gender!!!!! > O.K. > Click & once window opens the ONLY CHOICES are for "Kids" > "Women" & "Unisex."

There IS NO LISTING FOR MEN.............
Men have NOW BECOME UNISEX.......... NO MALES..... MEN ARE NOW CATEGORIZED AS "UNISEX"!!!!!

Why do Women have their OWN gender Setting, while men DO NOT..... Please Explain.... Please!
Are women's heads shaped differently then a Mans?
Why Just Eliminate and replace the word "Man" as a gender classification?
Why Not also remove the word "Women" as a gender classification and only have 2 listings for "Kids" & Unisex?"
Why Not Just ADD the word "Unisex" to the gender classification list, to actually make it ALL Inclusive?!!?
That would be the RIGHT THING TO DO!
Shame on ALL THOSE @ Sporting Life INVOLVED IN THAT DESICION.
