good for a year...

"Got the 2" XJ Budget lift for my 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee. In 2 years, i went through 3 sets of bushings, (the rubber completely disintegrated), 1 Spacer (completely broke in half) and eventually replaced the shocks (stiffest ride ever). I live in Chicago, so the closest i came to taking my Jeep off-road, is my daily commute on Chicago's pot hole ridden streets. Each time i called to inquire about the bushings i was told i had to pay to replace them. Unreal. (the last set lasted 2 months!!??) The only reason i give them one star is because the customer service guys i spoke with were consistent. (too much like robots, boring and monotone) Do yourself a favor and get your lift-kit elsewhere!!"

Save Your Time and Money

"I purchased a SOA kit with the OTT steering from RRO for my YJ. My overall experience with this company has been a bumpy one to say the least. Hopefully others can learn from my mistake and avoid this company at all costs. I spent almost $1,800 with this company and they couldn’t care less about my satisfaction with the product and services that I have received.

I ordered the kit through their website. There was no lead time or backorder status listed for the product. I figured 2 weeks or so. I got a call from them after about a week and a half saying that the SOA kit would ship out but they were still waiting on the OTT components. I followed up weekly on the OTT components and every time I called I was told that they were just about done being machined and it would be a day or two for powder coat. After 2 to 3 weeks I was finally fortunate enough to get a set that someone had returned. Otherwise it would have been another 3 weeks (at least).

The condition of the components when received was a joke. The boxes were in rough shape and upon opening them I discovered that all of the components were just thrown in the box with some packaging peanuts. The powder coat finish was damaged on almost every component in the kit. When I called them about it they apologized and said they had employee issues, but did not offer to do anything to fix the problem.

The hardware was separated by kit with a label of what was in the bag, but discerning which fasteners were which was challenging as there was an assortment of standard and metric fasteners. At the end of the install there were several fasteners left over and even more that were missing completely. If your kit is anything like what I received, be prepared to spend $40 or more on quality hardware (nuts, bolts, sleeves, shims, etc.). When I called and brought this to their attention I got two separate stories: (1) their “hardware specialist” puts together the hardware kits and he’s usually really good about it, and (2) we’ve had lots of employee issues lately. Again, basically just get over it because they are not going to do anything about it.

Each kit came with instructions, but they left much to be desired. Black and white pages with lots of text and minimal pictures. Hopefully you already know what you’re doing. After beginning the install it was apparent that the quality of the kit was lacking. Holes were misaligned and just about every hole had to be clearanced to accept a fastener. Even if the powder coat finish wasn’t damaged during shipping it would have still needed to be redone after reworking all of the components.

Overall customer service is lacking as well. I called with some questions during the install. If your question is not on their FAQ sheet, don’t expect to get an answer because they don’t know. I asked the owner of the company, Glenn, for some sort of reimbursement for the subpar quality of the product. Again, I got the story about bad employees (he even went as far as saying most of the candidates were druggies and deadbeat dads running from the state) and that aftermarket parts will need to be “tweaked”.

Long story short, if you buy from this company you should expect long lead times, damaged components, missing hardware, and a very poor excuse for customer service. Expect to spend extra time modifying and “tweaking” every single component to get them to fit. Plan on spending a little bit more for the missing fasteners and assorted hardware. And finally, if you have any issues, then you’re just going to have to deal with it because they don’t care enough to do anything about it.

Slow but I was expecting slow.

"Old Man Emu lift for Liberty KJ. Placed my order online on 03/20. Called and checked on it a few days later. Talked with Danny at RRO, Danny is a good guy. He put me on hold and called ARB. My lift was not in stock but they were expecting a container any day. Called back a week or so later and got another guy on the phone this time. Had tell him to call ARB but he did so without any complaints. Container was hung-up in customs. Couple of days later we went on vacation for two weeks. Who cares about lift kits while sitting on Maui. After vacation called RRO again and got Danny on the phone. My parts were on the way to RRO. Talked with him a few days later(a Friday). Parts were there waiting for the struts to be assembled. Danny called me back the following Monday my order was complete and ready to ship. Got tracking number in email the next day. Had the kit installed today, really liking the ride but can't wait to get out in the desert. As I said, I was expecting this to be a slow process. Who lifts a Liberty? Well the same guy that put BFG KO2s on one. I really had doubts about the parts being in stock so no biggie there. If I have complaint with RRO it's that they do poor job of keeping their customers informed. Maybe if I had placed my order on the phone it might have been different. Can't say. Next time I'll make a point of ordering from Danny at RRO rather than online. Maybe I'll do this review thing again if I do."

One of the worst vendor I have dealt with! (or tried to deal with)

"Ordered a Axis Samari Diesel Conversion kit to fit VW diesel engine in our customers Samari.
order was late and upon inspection I can honestly say that it was the worst array of jumbled
poorly machined, not jigged properly. Then the customer service,(if you could call it that) began.
frustrating to say the least! we were told that it is common to have to redo the holes in the brackets to fit the engine it was designed for! Also we would have to rework the brackets to fit the alternator! Then we were told they would not even credit the purchase back because we had to alter the holes to bolt parts to the engine block! I have done many custom engine changes and conversions over the last 4 decades, using built up adapters from various manufacturers and have never experienced such poor design and customer service.
Please think twice before doing business with this firm! If we treated our customers with this disrespect and lousy products we would be out of business in a very short while.
Anyway, if you need the VW -Samari kit look at ACME ADAPTERS. We purchased their kit and I have to say it is near flawless, and the tech support is excellent. I am not an affiliate of ACME ADAPTERS. Just a happy customer!

"Absolutely the worst shopping experience ever! I wish I had seen these reviews before ordering!!! I was sold the wrong part then now after paying to return them I have to wait another week before they check them back into the system and reorder my other parts I've been out of finishing my truck now over a month. SERIOUSLY DO NOT SHOP OR ORDER FROM THIS SUPPLIER"

"About the same. My experience with RRO was similar to others. I ordered the rock sliders for my 2015 Jeep Cherokee trail hawk. I could not put it on as advertised. I took them to a shop and they had to drill holes to install. Once on they looked okay and are of very sturdy quality. The roof rack was a different story. The replacement roof rack looks great and easy to install, the cross bars look okay but at 40mph they set up a awful howling noise. I took them off and taped the ends but to no avail, had to leave them off. I have a Thule cross bar attachment I hope will work. Oh yeah, took a month and three mailings to get the hardware correct. None came with the roof rack. But they were pleasant!"

"Worst company I have ever dealed with. I purchased a lift kit for my YJ. Repeatedly sent me the wrong parts. After the mistakes they refused to express ship the correct parts so the small project took 6 weeks. Some parts of the product they sent me also did properly fit. Poor craftsmanship and design with all of there product. After it was completed and was on the vehicle it was so bad that it was completely removed from the vehicle and there lift kit was brought to the junk yard. I had more issues with the there customer service and lack of doing anything to satisfy the customer. In the end I would never buy anything from this company nor recommend it."

"I buy and sell a lot of cars so I also buy a lot of aftermarket parts. Rocky Road was by far the worst transaction that I have had in 15 years. It took over 4 months to receive all of the parts and even then I did not receive them all. I did not get any refund for the missing parts that I sourced myself in order to finish the project. I spent over $2500 with them and was treated like a loser. It seems like the owner must employ only his best friends because that is the only reason that they still have jobs. When I asked for the owner many times I was rebuffed with different excuses. Do not order from rocky road!"

"I contacted several stores before only one finally took the time to answer my questions which is Rocky Road Outfitters. I spent several days going back and forth with Glenn who works there. Pretty much the best customer service I have ever received from any online retail store. He was a really knowledgeable guy and he hooked me up with the perfect lift and rock sliders for my Toyota. Can't say enough about how great the customer service was there. This was my first time buying with Rocky Road, but definitely not my last. A+ !"
