Core Refund Rip Off

"If you are seeing this likely you've already been ripped off by Rock Auto. Their Core Refund offer is conditioned on returning the item in the exact same box it was shipped in. No exceptions. This essential part of receiving a refund is buried under links and not prominently displayed anywhere: Not on their landing page, not on their order confirmation, not on the shipping advisement etc. You can only communicate via email and after a several 2 replies, they'll likely block you using an automated message informing that your order has been closed. It would be interesting to know what percentage of their profits come from Core charges. No kidding! "

Received bad part

"Ordered an auto battery from them. When it arrived the flimsy packing was destroyed. The Battery was exposed but appeared undamaged. Two days after installation it was dead. I recharged it giving it a deep reconditioning charge. The. Ext day it was dead again. I replaced it with local purchased battery and had no problems since. This was a $300 battery. Numerous attempts to contact. Them resulted in no one returning my calls. I advise to stay away from them. "

Decent for getting parts at a resonable price, **** big time at customer service

"So I order a part, expected delivery time is Thursday. Delayed until Friday, fine, it's here in town with a delivery time showing pending. I want to pick up at the Fedex location personally so I have it for the weekend. Fedex tells me that Rock Auto has a restriction that will not allow me to pick it up, contact them to release the restriction. I do so, they refuse to release the restriction and keep quoting me that delivery times are not guaranteed and how that's posted upon checkout. Ya, I get that, but it's here in town, I'll go get it, A GUARANTEE that I will have my package today! Nope, they absolutely refuse, keep quoting the shipping times not quaranteed. "

NEVER AGAIN

"thought I'd give them a try. Bad idea! They took payment fast but, after a week, my part has yet to get to the post office. They claim to have shipped it 5 days ago but tracking shows that they only printed the label. Tried their customer service phone number to inquire about it. Got an automated message that they don't do cs over the phone but I could message them from the website. Wrong again, I have yet to find a way to message them. Lesson learned! I will never order from them again. I'm passed the original delivery dates and they haven't shipped it yet. "

Bait and Switch on Shipping Charges

"The checkout screen shwoed shipping would be 13.99. After I paid via Paypal the receipt showed charges of 23.99

Horrible customer service. No way to contact them expect through order page.

Counterfeit parts

"I bought an expensive steering rack from this website and noticed dangerous problems after install. The Mercedes Benz dealership said it's a counterfeit. This website offered an exchange of the part but the install fee is $1000. And RockAuto will just send me another counterfeit part.
Do not buy from this scam company.

"DO NOT USE ROCK AUTO ! The entire setup is an online scam. The customer service is non existent and they do not take responsibility for sending the wrong parts. I am doing everything I can to spread the word that rock auto is garbage. Save yourself the head ache and shop local. "

They don't know how to treat their big customers either!

"I have been a huge supporter of this company for the last few years, as I am a licensed auto tech who is semi-retired and look after a small fleet of my own, the farm, and family's vehicles, also taking on friends and neighbors jobs. Probably around $20,000+ in the last 2.5 years. And I'm in my mid 30's so many decades of spending left I would reckon.
So with that back story which I told when I made my emailed inquiry (since you can't actually ever talk to human!) about a wrong part (timing belt) that was part of one of those big kits that come with all the goodies like water pump/tensioner/pully's, you would think they might consider the years of revenue and potentially hundred's of thousands of dollars I may spend or refer to them. Nope no care given at all!
I had already installed the rest of the kit on a Saturday and went to put the last part on which is the timing belt, when low and behold it was too short. It came out of a factory sealed box so it was the packers at Continental to blame. I sourced one from the local dealer before they closed as the Honda I was working on needed to get back to the customer for work use Monday.
Rock Auto wanted me to disassemble what I had already installed (with high torque lock tighten bolts into aluminum which in my opinion best not to take in and out any more than necessary (as they kinda have a finite amount of times that can be done before thread damage becomes a risk) which would disable the vehicle and take time as well. They wanted it all sent back to get a refund and wait about 10 days to get another belt/kit. Don't know who would be paying for a rental car at that point either I guess me or the customer?
They sold a wrong part and make it your responsibility to deal with it even if it includes huge inconvenience, cost, time, energy. Also the local belt I had to buy at the stealership was 5X the cost which kinda throws my estimate out the window! I told them to keep the money for the belt instead of refunding it and they would never hear from me again and I won't be recommending them anymore. They need to look at the bigger picture sometimes it would have been a big win for them to keep me happy!! Now it's off the "PartsAvatar.ca" to order parts lol!

"God help you if you have any problems with any thing there is no customer service call there phone number: 1-***-***-**** or 1-866-7625-2886 and see what you are in for you will get a have a bad day goodby. I will never ever use them again the 70.00 bucks I lost is now just a reminder to never do it again "

Rockauto claims no responsibility for shipping

"Parts seem good. When working through the ordering process, rock auto shows shipping options. I unfortunately choose DHL. They showed a delivery date of Friday and I paid double for the part due to the urgency. They show it is shipping now 3 days later. No phone call, no text, no email. Instead both the DHL and Rockauto act as if I am a sucker for trusting them. I will not again make that mistake. I am done."

"Below is what rockauto.com response. In my opinion they should cover 100% of the return cost because it doesn't match what their claim. Even though they simply relay what the manufacturer says. RockAuto should take ownership of putting that description on their website. Customer should not be forced to pay part of the return shipment.

Non-existant Customer Service...

"Paid a large amount of money for overnight shipping. 2 days later still no package. No phone number to call and personally speak to Customer Service. Only an email (that should be a HUGE red flag to anyone). When I sent an email, 36 hours later I finally get a response pointing me to a link on their website saying they aren't responsible for shipping delays. No follow-up on my package ETA, no help whatsoever. They don't care for their customers. If you are needing parts at a specific time, do not order from this company. You will not get it when they say you will. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. TRUST ME, AVOID ROCKAUTO.COM LIKE THE PLAGUE. Wish I could give them ZERO stars."

Always charge extra for shipping even when it's shipped to the wrong location I would not recommend buying from RockAuto.

why so many bad reviews?

"I have placed about 35 orders with RockAuto over the last 10 years or so and overall have been satisfied, otherwise, I would not keep buying from them.
The Rockauto website is very well organized allowing you to search by vehicle and look up the part you need or search by OEM p/n. (No false misdirects to parts that are for a completely different vehicle like the other major online retailer does.) Pricing is usually much cheaper than local auto parts stores.
Sure, I have had a few orders where the item didn't seem to be first quality (such as Anchor engine mounts, a shock unit, or hatchback strut assembly) but each time, I have been able to use their online system to process the issue and get a replacement, at no cost to me. I have also been able to return items. Yes, I had to pay return shipping in that case. But for the cost savings over the years, it has been worthwhile. You do have to explore options especially in cases where multiple parts are available, to check different shipping rates and delivery estimates. I typically see shipment ETA dates from a few days to more than a week, probably due to different warehouse locations.
I suspect that only the people having issues actually bother to write reviews!
