"First, I LOVE the column I bought from PacificColumns! In the room where I had it mounted it looks just the way I was hoping for.

However, the ordering and shipping process was grossly flawed. After lengthy consultations with the PacificColumns consultant ("column guy") I thought I had ordered precisely what would fit our room. I was very precise with my room specifications and expected to get a tailored product. The dimensions of the column that was delivered were nowhere near those specified on the order. It took significant modifications to the shaft and the base in order to make them fit. Despite my detailed exchange with the PacificColumns consultant on what to order so the fluting would show the semi-round finishes at the bottom, the latter were covered entirely by the base. The fluting was "buried" multiple inches deep, so with the help of our paid (!) contractor we had to recreate/remodel the semi-round flute finishes by hand. That process increased the overall cost dramatically, all due to said inaccuracy. I would have returned any other product not matching the order specs, but given the size/weight of this item, the complicated shipping process, PacificColumns’ no-return policy and the time constraints with our project, I couldn’t.

The shipping process was flawed, too. Since the column went to a residential address, being informed of timing and getting advance notice was essential. I had emphasized that fact several times and was promised by the "column guy" that I could rely on proper and timely notices. First surprise was that the capital had been shipped/delivered by a different carrier than the other two parts (shaft and base). It came several days before the announced shipment date, but the papers indicated that this was the "complete" shipment. My inquiry with PacificColumns’ order processing department on a Friday helped to clarify matters, and they repeated that I would get at least 24 hours advance notice before the main part was delivered on the following Wednesday. On Monday morning, 2 days sooner than announced, a huge truck pulled up, without any warning or call, delivering the 133 lbs (net) column. I apparently could not make any provision to store the column, nor had I any helper to assist with the unloading. Fortunately the driver was willing to lend a hand, in contrast to what the PacificColumns shipping details said.

As said in the beginning, I love the finished product (after my own "adjustments"), and I continue to be impressed by the online tools designed to tailor the product. The ordering and shipping portion of my buying experience, however, needs significant improvement. The discrepancy between the PacificColumns service promise and reality is blatant."

"I purchased 2 white square durastone columns. Overall they are very nice. There were 2 quality control issues. First, on one of the columns, the color is inconsistent. This inconsistency appears on all four sides. There is a vertical line going down each side of the column demarcating lighter color from richer color. The second issue is that the top of one of the columns was not square or flat and required me to sand it flat before it could be installed to sit nicely against the cap. Despite the flaws, which probably only I will notice, they are very nice and easy to work with. They cut with a regular framing blade."

"The columns arrived in heavily damaged cardboard boxes that were so damaged as to not be usable for returns, if necessary. Columns inside had no additional padding, protection or cushioning of any sort, just large, heavy columns in big damaged boxes. Columns survived reasonably well, though with some gouges that the driver state were "scratches" on the delivery form...yeah, right...scratches you could measure with a depth gauge and ruler. Caps and bases were thin shells of plastic-feeling material look rather chintzy, and flimsy. I suspect once painted a casual observer would never notice. I expected a heavy cap and base. While the columns might support weight and resist trauma pretty well, I'd worry about the resilience of the caps and bases to hard impact."

The supply company where we live could not get our columns in a timely manor.
That sent me to Pacific Columns, I spoke with Sam Pease great guy who walk me through the whole order.

"I rated your shipping a fair only because I don't believe what I ordered was $200 in shipping. They are light and came all taped together. Could not have cost $200. But the service and time of deliver was FANTASTIC!!!! And FYI the 10" tapered top fits perfect on an 8" PVC pipe. That had to be well researched on my end...Knowing, that is not what your product is made for.
