"i bought an Athlon XP2500 cpu from PCProgess because they came up from Pricegrabber as the lowest price by far. They processed my order very well and it arrived very soon. However, the unit itself was defective. I brought it to a local computer store to have them install it. They showed me that there was a brown spot on the underside of the cpu (where the pins are) and that the unit was bad. We tested all the other components of my computer just to make sure it was the processor that was bad. They put in a different socket A cpu and the computer posted fine. I called up PCProgress for an exchange, but unfortunately the 30 day warranty had passed so now i am stuck with the defective processor they sent me and have to by a new one. Im going Newegg this time. "

"Order new AMD XP2500 cpu. Arrived with defects(scratches & knicks)on core. Returned using rma process, and had to email them to find out when they would replace. Out of stock initially and mailed replacement which arrived Nov. 1. Replacement had worse defects than original. Read bad customer reviews and went ahead and installed. Works ok but shoddy merchandise."

"I purchased a computer processor from them. They sent me the wrong model. I tested the processor with software from it's maker to determine exactly what model had been send to me. The software gets this information directly from data permanently stored in the processor itself at manufacture. There is no margin of error. I spoke to the owner of the company, who was very short and rude with me, and sent it back to them as he requested for a refund. They said that I had received what I ordered and that what I sent to them was the right CPU. When I told them that I had used AMD's CPUID utility to determine that the processor was not what i ordered, they said that the BIOS gives this data to the CPUID utility and that the application was providing incorrect information. This is false, as I have explained.

Purchased: AMD XP3000+
Received: AMD Thunderbird 1.333

They said that they also ran the AMD CPUID utility on the processor and it was what I had ordered, and credited me only a portion of my purchase. They are lying about the product that was sent to me so that they may recoup the expense of thier mistake by charging me for shipping and a restocking fee.

Why would I send the correct processor back to them after running the maker's software to test it? I would not! If they also ran the AMD CPUID utility on the processor as they claim, then they know without a doubt that the processor was not the model I ordered! And yet, they want me to pay for shipping and a restocking fee for their mistake. Consumers should not be ripped off with this "you pay for our mistake" game!

These people are incompetant, liars and theives. Please do not do business with them. They are incompetant and will rip you off if they can.

"CHIPPED CPU
The die has small chips on the corners
It works 100% and it overclocks ( AMD 3000+ OEM )
Pins were good and it was clean

"Okay, I ordered from this store few times in the past. Everytime I ordered a product from this store, it arrived on time. However, their order tracking system is not updated most of time and they would not reply to any emails that I sent. This time was no exception. I ordered a cpu from this store because there was no other store to turn to. It didn't say it was on stock and that made me nervous. So I called their customer service and made sure that the cpu that I wanted was on stock. That same day I ordered it and today I got it. My advice to any buyer is to check with them by phone first just to make sure and when you order something write down the order number. That would let you at least estimate when the shipment would arrive. All in all an average seller in my opinion."

"This started three weeks ago 4/6/04, today’s date is 4/27/04. I am a corp. customer whose office is less than 90 minutes from PC Progresses place of business. I needed a replacement CPU ASAP for a machine, school was out this week and I was repairing machines in a computer lab. All of the machines use AMD Athlon 1700+ CPUs so I called up PC Progress and ordered another. I was told it would ship the next day as I called to late for today’s shipping.

Several days later I am ordering other parts from newegg.com and realize that I have not received the above Athlon yet, so I order one from newgg.com just to be on the safe side. The machine in question has been up and running for two weeks now and used by students thanks to newegg.com.

Well finally today I receive the CPU, three weeks after I ordered it. I really was not expecting it as nothing had been charged to my credit card as of late. When I opened the package I found a week 03 of year 02 Palomino CPU. It has been used, noted by the thermal grease on it, and the fact that it is chipped!

This is unacceptable! No where on PC Progresses web page was it stated that I was purchasing a used CPU? When I called the tech support number as instructed on the PC Progress web page for an RMA, the PC Progress rep admitted that they resell pulled CPUs from machines. As far as I know selling a used product as new is illegal, but maybe I am mistaken.

I will admit it’s my fault for not checking here at BizRate before. I needed a replacement CPU ASAP and I made a mistake. I should have just shipped it next day from newegg.com. At least PC Progress has agreed to accept the RMA and pay for the shipping charges back to their warehouse. Not like they have much of a choice as I believe they sold me a CPU under false pretences.

Also after reviewing my credit card statement, the order was charged to my credit card, days before it was shipped.

"Ordered 2 sticks of 256MB SDRAM, P3/700 and Cooling fan for the CPU as I was told when I phoned in my order that the CPU did not include one and that in order to get a 1-yr warranty I would have to purchase the fan. Would not ship to my office address as it was not on file with my bank. Next day, I get home to a UPS sticker on my door -- cant deliver as they need a signature - DUH! Contacted UPS and redirected delivery to my office. 2 days later my package arrives. Much to my surprise, I find that the CPU ALREADY HAS A FAN ON IT! Also discover that instead of the ECC registered 256MB sticks of RAM I was shipped 512MB sticks which my machine can't use. Called in and talked to Frank. He apologized, and offered to reimburse me for the fan and return shipping for the fan and RAM. Get home and find that the CPU is DEAD. E-mailed Frank, advised I was returning everything for a full refund. They did refund everything plus the return shipping charges as promised.

As they advertise on their site they are "CNET Certified", I gave feedback on CNET, only to find out that they are indeed NOT "Certified".

While they did as promised on the return, the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth, and I will not do business with them again.

Recommendation: Avoid Them

"Customer service is horrible, I was hung up on twice and held for an hour with no help. Sent defected CPU and gives a hard time returning or refunding. Blamed my hardware for their own product. I also did not receive any instructions or manuals with this product. Still awaiting response. Haven't received any updated emails yet. Very bad service and I will never buy from them again. I also do not recommend anybody to buy from them either. Worst service I ever had."

"Id have to agree with peterson2003 comments. I ordered a amd athlon xp 1800+ retail box after getting ripped off by acmicro.com. shipping labeled as "Ships Same-1 Day" i opted to upgrade shipping to 2 day service because i wanted to get the Processor quick before i left town for the week. I later called them to add a few things to my order and found out the Processor was backordered so i had them change the shipping method to ground. I never recived an updated email with the order changes nor a email notifying me that the processor was on backorder.
If my product hasnt shipped by tommorow i will be calling them to cancel my order since ive had plenty of time to find a diffrent company with the same product cheaper and with a higher rating Plus its in stock!

*update* I forgot to call the company to cancel my order so i called them today july 28th 2003. they said my order was shipped july 24th but i have not recived any kind of email telling me my order has been shipped or recived any type of email with a tracking number. While the support person i talked to was very friendly he couldnt provide me with any kind of help except to tell me when the order was shipped. When i asked about a tracking number he was unable to provide me with one.

"Based on the high ratings of this site, I felt pretty safe ordering from PCProgress. However, the motherboard which I ordered, an ABIT BD7II, which was marked (and still is) as "Ships Same-1 Day" was not actually in stock at all and had to be back-ordered. Thankfully, they didn't charge my credit card yet, however, this kind of thing is very annoying when you order online. If I had wanted to wait 3-5 extra days for you to backorder it, I would have ordered it from a store that said "Not in Stock"!"
