"I ordered 5 Hitachi 250G drives in May from CoolerExpress. This was a $1000 order. One drive arrived DOA and they refused to issue an RMA and told me to use the manufacturer's (Hitachi) RMA process. This required me to purchase special packaging ($15) in order for Hitachi to even accept the drive.
Hitachi's drive diagnostics concluded the drive had encountered "Excessive shock". This is not surprising considering CoolerExpress shipped the drives free-floating in a 1/2" flimsy piece of styrofoam. And all of them were in the SAME piece of styrofoam.
Now, in September, another drive has gone bad with the same failure diagnostic. None of these drives
have been transported, dropped, or harshly treated since they arrived. I fully blame CoolerExpress packaging for all of these failures.
I would never buy another thing from CoolerExpress because of their sub-standard shipping for delicate items and their crap customer service.
I should have withheld payment from my MasterCard and I would suggest anyone else do so if they try to shaft you too."
"Within minutes of placing the order I received an email confirmation from CoolerExpress. For shipping I had requested FedEx 3-day Select; I use FedEx for any important shipping matters. In less than 24-hours I received a Tracking number and information. The purchase from CoolerExpress.com arrived in 2 days! I think it only fair to mention that the distance was from LA to San Francisco, however the order/delivery performance was impressive.
The product, a Maxtor 300GB USB 2.0/Firewire/Combo 3.5" External HD was easily installed and running smoothly in short time.
Dissatisfactions? I have a Maxtor One-Touch 250GB External HD that is virtually silent whereas this one is ‘noisy’; it sounds like my computer is running when the computer is off.
Also I would have appreciated an overview of CoolerExpress’s selling structure on their homepage; it was not initially clear to me how their products were packaged.
Although I read and compared various images, there was nothing actually written about whether the HD could be stood sideways or laid flat. I assumed (yes, I know) that I would have that option, which I unfortunately do not. Perhaps minor points but — overall so far so good.
