Really awful customer service

"Purchased some merchandise and had an issue with billing. Sent a few emails, received a few canned responses, finally received a real response after I sent a spicy email. I ended up canceling my trial membership which was going to be billed at $39.99. The reason for my original query was for a pricing issue of around $19.99. Sportsman's guide wouldn't budge on the pricing issue so I cancelled the upcoming $39.99 membership charge. SG ended up losing a customer and $39.99 over a $19.99 dispute, which doesn't make sense to me, but when companies get to a certain size they are sometimes more worried about policy than service. My feeling is that if they are going to be so resolute in their policies, if I ever have a serious support issue I don't feel I would ever get anywhere and probably only end up with canned responses and more frustration. If you purchase from SG and you have an issue, understand they are not going to help you.
For alternative companies to buy from (which I have and am happy with,) go to TargetSportsUSA or bigtexoutdoors instead.

Return lies

"I Bought a X-Stand Express 13' Portable Tripod Deer Stand at the St Paul Store. Opened the box which was not sealed just a lift off, only took out the instructions and read them. It stressed the type of surface needed to safely use the stand, my area is too uneven and sandy to use it, put instructions back in box and was going to exchange it for two tree stands but was told it could not be returned because box was opened. I read Their replies to other tree stand customers that
"You can purchase from Sportsman's Guide with confidence that we will stand behind the products that we sell. If you’re not happy for any reason, just return the item with your invoice and we’ll promptly refund your merchandise total or make an exchange, whichever YOU prefer." This is NOT TRUE, I am a member and will probably not buy from you again because I cannot trust your word

Worst customer service ever

"I had my order canceled without them contacting me first. There was a question regarding my FFL dealer (for a firearms transfer) and instead of working with me, they just canceled my order. Then when I tried to re-order they wouldn't honor the price. Very rude customer service and from my experience several of them are seriously undereducated and unable to think logically or comprehend what customers are asking. SportsmansGuide often has great prices, but it's not worth the horrible service in my opinion. There are plenty of other online retailers with similar prices and much better service. "

Won't post a review because it is negative

"I purchased a set of leather suspenders that where of great quality, fit, and finish-or so I thought. Then, after wearing them with a white shirt, I noticed they were staining my shirt. the leather dyes bled into and ruined my new shirt. I then examined my two other shirts and saw the same issue on both of them. The stains have faded, but are still very visible after many hand scrubs and many washes. They returned the item, but after two attempts to review the item on their website, they have blocked the reviews. I included photos to verify my statements, but they ultimately reserve the right to block or allow reviews. A $40 set of suspenders has ruined $130 worth of shirts and I can't even warn anyone before they go and ruin their clothing. It shows that they reviews on their site are not impartial and do not truly reflect the general consensus of their clients. They attempt to paint a false partial picture of their item in order to lure in potential customers. They did not even attempt to address the issue with me or post my review with a comment that they will look into and fix the problem. They simply refunded my money, except for shipping, and brushed it under the rug. I can't trust a company that does business like this. I might have well as flushed the shipping money down the toilet and not ruined 3 shirts. I would have been much farther ahead."

Credit charge without my ok

"I have been a Sportsmans Guide customer for 20 years and spent Thousands of Dollars here,only to have them charge my credit card for a Membership without talking to me about it first. when I called they could careless and told me my free membership was up,and if I did not call by a certain date it would automatically renew and charge to my card. I never agreed to this and have been given other free memberships over the years without this happening. I Hope This $39.99 was Worth my Future Buisness
as I have paid for memberships over the years and had not used them.

Good prices but TERRIBLE Service

"I traded with these guys for the better part of a year and spent over $3000 with them. First the good...for the most part the quality of their products and the price of the products is competitive. Now the bad. Their shipping is very slow. 7 to 10 days to get something from them as opposed to 2 days from their competitors. Their pricing is confusing some times. They have so many specials that you are never sure you are getting the best price. This leads me to my biggest complaint and the reason I will not trade here any more. I bought a product on a Wednesday. On Thursday morning they had a "special" which resulted in $9.26 lower price. No problem I thought. I will just email them, and ask for the adjustment. The response I got 3 times from Customer Service was they do not match other retailers' auction prices or items they do not have in stock. This was despite me providing them screens shots of their page with the lower price. Hey get a clue here....I even drew you a picture in case you cannot read. Anyway this was my last straw with them. I will move on to one of their competitors, and hope for a better result."

Good Service and Good Value

"Twice I have ordered Bulk Ammo at a great price with tremendous discounts. I also ordered steel targets, target holders and other assorted items with great success. Yesterday, I did order (to my Illinois FFL) an AK47 and questions I had were quickly and efficiently answered. I even got a call back when e-mailing them about concerns I had about angry comments on this site. I am guessing that many of the people who had disputes never bother to go back in and update their angry posts. Additionally my "educated guess" is that many, many folks never go to sites like this, that have good experiences with Sportsmansguide, because they just don't have time. They are a large service company with "rules for reasons" that are CLEARLY spelled out on their website. I recommend you read, ahead of time, what you are buying and carefully select before you purchase. As for me I heartily recommend Sportsmanguide.com!"

Not worth your money or time

"Wouldn't ship a military surplus jacket to Canada. I instead shipped it to a forwarder that could ship it to Canada. I then found out my order was cancelled and called them to ask why. They said "shipping to forwarders is against their policy" and then I asked why they couldn't just ship the jacket to Canada. According to them "it's illegal to ship any military surplus out of the US". These guys should seriously not be in business. "

Wide selection of items, but absolutely the worst customer service I came across and they do not stand behind their satisfaction guarantee.

"They may have a wide selection of items, but their customer service is cold, uncaring and is truly terrible! They claim to have the strongest guarantee in the business as they say, "Order with complete confidence! Your satisfaction is guaranteed, period," but I absolutely disagree as I was not satisfied with my order one bit and there is no such thing as satisfaction guaranteed, period.

They also claim to have a lowest price guarantee, as they say, "If you find a lower advertised price for an item we sell within 30 days of placing your order, we will refund you the difference. Proof of purchase and a copy of the retailer’s lower advertised price is required." Guess what? I did exactly all that, I already bought the item and showed them the proof of purchase and the retailer's lower advertised price and they absolutely refused to honor the lowest price guarantee that they claim to have, and then ignored me. Absolutely despicable as they did not stand behind their words one bit at all. They will not honor their words and their satisfaction guarantee is a lie.

If you shop with this company, know that their customer service is truly terrible and they will not stand behind the satisfaction guarantee that they claim to have. I was a Club Member of SPG and they did show me as a customer a single ounce of respect. 0/10 company. Despicable company that rather side with their money than with the customer and the guarantees that they claim to have. From my experience, I do not recommend this company at all. Worst customer service, ever!

Very expensive to be a member!

"I need a zero star rating. Took the membership credit card because it was supposed to save me money. Nope. Just cost me money. Used the card once (the initial membership purchase), paid the bill in full immediately and cancelled the card right away and still got billed for "renewal fee". And then they kept billing me and put on a late charge. Credit card people said talk to membership club people about removing the charges. Called membership club. Waited 25 minutes on the phone for someone to answer. Finally spoke to someone who agreed to take the membership renewal fee off and told me to talk to the card people about the late fee. I told they card people said talk to her about that. She put me on hold to talk to her management and I got put back in the call queue. I will say the agent I talked to about the membership fee was pleasant and did remove the charge. But then I had to call the card people back. Talked to agent who said I'd have to talk to a supervisor so waited on hold yet again. That supervisor still wanted to charge me a late fee for a charge that was taken off and wasn't supposed to be charged to begin with. Made me pay it. My husband and I both belong to several hunting and gun forums and we will both be sure to talk about my experience. This is like a scam. Charge me for something I shouldn't have been charged with and then bill me a late fee! Seems to me someone like the attorney general should be made aware of this.

"Waste of your time to answer. CANNOT MAKE OUT THE NEXT BUTTON ITS SO FAINT AND THEN IT GOES, GOES, GOES SOME where else makes S guide look so stupid. Their free shipping and guest membership got me ordering but WOW sent me a waste of time survey so now I just think its lame!!"

An Online retailer Comprised of Snakes

"Upon ordering some shot shells, namely Federal; many shells had buffer seeping out from the crimps that were almost opened. Buffer was strewn throughout the entire (3) 25 round boxes. Customer service never answered my email, nor did any address the defective shipment they sent. I was not aware that ammunition could not be exchanged, for I did not read the stipulation. We shall never conduct business with Sportsman's Guide ever again. This is a company comprised of snakes, hiding behind a veil of lies and seeking to trap the unsuspecting.
* After submitting a negative online review to Sportsmans Guide, they deleted the comment and picture I submitted. However, all the planned comments are posted by forked tongue people.

Still haven't received my merchandise return refund after one month of waiting!!!

"I've been a Sportsmans Guide customer since Nov. 1997, and up until now I've enjoyed dealing with Sportsman's Guide. I ordered a black powder revolver a little over a year ago, costing over $300.00, not realizing that it would end up being a useless paper weight due to black powder not being available anywhere in the State where I live. Anyway, I returned the unused revolver back to them in the same condition as received and it arrived back to them on June 23rd via FedEx Ground by their prepaid shipping label. The revolver was finally processed on Wednesday of the following week and I have yet to receive my refund check in the mail. I keep sending them emails, and they keep telling me lies that they're still processing the refund and that it will be mailed out shortly, or by last Friday, etc..., so my patience is now totally exhausted, and I'm totally through with doing any further business with Sportsman's Guide. If I can help it, I never do business with businesses that I can't trust, and only do business with any government agency or insurance company because I have to - not because I want to. It's apparent that the Sportsman's Guide no longer cares about it's good customers or excellent customer service, and is losing good big ticket item customers like myself because of their no longer caring. So, if you respect yourself and care about how you're treated by others, you will save yourself the frustration by not doing any business with the Sportsman's Guide. I'm going to file a formal complaint with my State Attorney General next week against the Sportsman's Guide, and hopefully the Attorney General can do something to get them to finally send me my legally due merchandise refund. "
