One of the few companies out there that actually contacts you on the order status from the time you put an order through. Not only do they do that but the information they send you is through an address of an actual person and not just a generic address.
From the time you order it, when they charge it, to when it's shipped... You're kept up to date on where your order is. Rare these days for sure to get that level of personal service especially from an online vendor."

"I bought a refurbished Powerbook from Small Dog. The price was great - and so was the computer.
I honestly couldn't tell that it was a refurb. Everything about it had the Apple "out-of-the-box" feeling. The folks at Small Dog made me a very happy customer.
As a bonus, I rated an external firewire drive on their site (that I had the misfortune of purchasing from another vendor). I rated the drive poorly, because quite frankly it wasn't working very well for me. I was contacted by Small Dog customer service - they passed along to me a contact from the drive manufacturer. The manufacturer's rep was actually waiting for my e-mail and made things right with a replacement drive!
Now that is customer service. The good folks at Small Dog made things right for an item I purchased from another vendor! I don't know how service can get any better than that."

"I purchased a Wiebetech Traydock from Small Dog. Even though the Traydock is expensive, it is one of the few SATA drive enclosures with a firewire external interface.
When the drive enclosure arrived, it was clearly used. (keep reading, there's a happy ending.) It had scratches on its metal case, gummy areas where adhesive rubber feet were previously attached and then removed, and a panel in the back was actually broken.
I realize that companies do not open packages of every product to inspect the condition by hand before shipment. That would break the packaging's seal, introduce personnel costs, etc. But I do expect that companies are reasonable with their replacement policies when something does go wrong.
In this case, Small Dog agreed to cross-ship a new drive dock to me and pay for shipping costs both ways. This was everything I could have hoped for. The replacement came quickly, and upon return of the defective/used item, my credit card was properly adjusted.
The customer service rep was courteous, professional, and responsive. Small Dog, you're a Small God in my eyes. Kudos, and best wishes!"

"I participated in their iPod trade-in program to marvelous results. The turnaround was only a couple of days between recieving my old iPod and shipping out the new one. Communication in between was great. Questions were answered quickly, shipment notifications sent out. The new iPod arrived in marvelous condition and two small dog (ha!) figurines were even included in the package. The iPod and figurines are now sitting on my desk. I'll order from them again for sure."

Excellent service. Before and after the sale.
I have purchased 3 Macs from Small Dog in the last 2 years and am completely satisfied.
But, the true test of a company is when something goes wrong.
I ordered a brand new iMac and someone's fingers slipped and the wrong computer was shipped to me. The two machines were almost identical, but not quite. These things happen. I called my sales rep and he said: "My fault. We will overnight a new iMac to you." They did. It arrived 26 hours later. They also included a return label and UPS will pick up the wrong iMac this afternoon.
This is great customer service.

I then realized that I was an idiot as the time limit had expired on one of my iMac. Therefore, I had the pleasure of doing an RMA.

"I purchased an iBook from SmallDog. When it arrived, it wouldn't turn on. I traced the problem to the memory. I sent the memory back, and got new memory. The new memory didn't work either. It was a logic board problem. I called and asked if I could send the machine back, and got a yes after they tried to charge me $50 for the return. I ordered a new machine. Two weeks after I placed my order, they put it into their system. Three weeks later, still no machine.
These guys
1) Need to test machines before they ship them, as they insisted they did but they obviously didn't
2) Need to get their act together with their order processing
3) Need to admit their mistakes (they do happen) and not lie about them
Unfortunately, I got burned."
