Sager Over-Salted

"I loved Sager gaming notebooks. Got my first one back in 2005, I believe. Not for gaming but mainly video work being a sign language instructor. Loved it. Got another one in 2007, but not gaming level, more for doing presentations at conventions and conferences. Loved it. Then in 2008 I got another gamer, an NP7262, I think. It would shut off at random times. Just turn itself off. Sent it back, they claimed it was fixed. It wasn't sent it back, still not fixed. Told me to send it to SagerNotebooks. Did so. Still not fixed. Stupidly in 2012, I ordered an Asus G75VW-RS72. Arrived with a red screen that refused to be adjusted to blue or any other color. Sent it back. Came back unfixed, advised the BBB in Nebraska. Finally got it back fixed and no issue with it since. What has changed at Xotic, I have no idea but my experiences severely discouraged my continuing to be a repeat customer. They used to be what i believed was the best out there."

Came broken

"I chose this computer because one is able to pick what goes into it. I looked and looked for one that comes built, but there is no such thing. I chose one with huge ram and really good sound so that I could create music, video and animation QUICKLY with excellent quality.

I got into the video and animation side of things and was very impressed with the speed.

When I got into the music side I got an enormous surprise. None of the external jacks were hooked up.
As I didn't expect the computer to COME BROKEN I did't get the shipping warranty. That alone should have been a red flag. Do they do this on purpose to get more money?

It took them 3 months to get it to me (not the 14 business days promised) so I'm really behind on my schedule and can't afford to send it away for another 3 months. (I only received it after I threatened to cancel the order and get the authorities involved.)

I feel extremely foolish for receiving it.

I wish I had found some reviews like this when I was thinking about buying it. I would have thought twice.

Worst computer I have owned in my entire life.

"Never ever buy a sager laptop. for the amount of money I put into this computer it should not have this many problems. The screen has broken three times, Sager has repaired it for me twice but at this point I have just accepted that no matter what it will continue breaking. First there were dark marks on the screen, afterwards the screen would turn off and on randomly due to a loose wire, and then after getting it repaired a second time there a new dark marks on my screen. I wasn't tossing this laptop around. this was under completely normal use as a work laptop. Furthermore, the chassis of latop has cracked and it runs entirely too hot. I have had various different types of laptops, I have latops that are 6 years old and still work completely fine but this laptop is a complete piece of garbage. I have never had to send in a latop to get repaired let alone send in a laptop twice and then just be resigned to the fact that I have been duped by sager into buying their product. NEVER BUY A SAGER."

Not Worth The Money

"Bought this $2,400 laptop through XoticPC Jan 2015. A few weeks before the warranty expired the display started acting up. XoticPC suggested I play around with the connector to the display because it may have come loose. Found a youtube video for swapping the display and used that to access the connector. Seemed to work for a week or two but gradually got worse and now all of the wires have come loose from the display connector. This is the first laptop that didn't last long enough for me to upgrade to another one. I've had at least five laptops over the years, Sony, HP, ASUS and this is the first one that went belly up. Now I'll have to pay Sager or someone to replace the display cable. This is my first and last Sager. They're junk as far as I'm concerned.

Update #1. Since this is a work and home laptop I paid $88 to have it 48 hour shipped 4/12; arrived at Sager 4/14. Contacted them 4/21 for status. They claimed they replaced the LCD cable but the monitor now does not turn on so they're looking at the LCD or motherboard which is completely, utterly absurd. The monitor turned on an hour before I shipped it until the LCD cable wires pulled away from the LCD connector. At least those of you reading this can't say you weren't warned. Not only do they build inferior, over-priced laptops they're not competent enough to fix them. Obviously they're attempting to gouge me for more than just an LCD cable. Update #2 will follow next week. Like others I can see a four week process and this laptop becoming a $3,000 alligator in my future. In the mean time I've resurrected an old four year old Sony VAIO laptop that hasn't been turned on in over a year. It works just fine (imagine that) even though it's not as fast and I've had to spend hours updating it. Never again Sager. Never again. Update #3. Almost 2 weeks after receipt of my laptop they claim not only the LCD cable needed replacing but also the motherboard. Of course they couldn't make any money on the $25 LCD cable so now it's a $965 motherboard. Of course the laptop worked fine until the LCD cable broke but somehow the motherboard magically doesn't work once they had it in their possession. $95 for labor. $140 to ship it back two day air (even though 2 day air cost me $88) and now my $2,400 15 month old laptop is $3,600. You're taking a chance buying one of these paperweights. Do yourself a favor and don't. I won't anymore.

I'm lovin' it

"I honestly never heard of Sager a year ago when I decided to let go of my old laptop that serves me almost 4 years. Next-gen games are coming out I don't wanna miss any of those games I'm interested in. Because my old laptop is the Alienware 13, therefore I ordered a brand-new Alienware 17, but I often had BSOD and other problems with that laptop, and it takes me a month to return it then get my money back. So I go on YouTube so search all the possible options I have. And the youtuber LinusTechTips actually did a full video on Sager. So, I ordered it, takes one week to get this baby. Last Thursday, just got my hands on this brand new 9870s laptop last week. Install some patches and ready to go. The build I chose for this laptop wasn't top of the line because of my budget. However, all the games I previously played run perfectly on this machine. All my friends I played with are starting to think about getting Sager next. Compare this one to the old laptop I got from Dell Alienware, almost same price, but Alienware these days is just not as good as it used to be anymore. often BSOD, and the quality of customer service is not as good as the level you can get for Sager here. Therefore if any of you wanna get a new laptop for gaming purposes. I'd say Sager is one of your great choices for sure."

"Running a NP9130/Clevo P151EM1 that I bought off XoticPC back on 5/16/2013

First off...price - at the time, it was quite competitive. Anymore, I couldn't compare, as my need for a laptop gaming PC has greatly diminished. (I was in college at the time, now I have my own office where I can setup whatever I'd like.)

Performance has been above average. Honestly, the only laptops I've seen compete have been Alienware and their ilk...although desktops can obviously get much more powerful in the same price range.

Reliability - I had overheating problems with two games on this laptop over the past 2.5 years. The first was StarCraft II, which was resolved as soon as the framerate was locked under 100fps, and the other game was due to the same issue.

Maintenance - This thing is EASY to maintain, in many aspects. First off, the fans are under a simple cover with 4 screws. Quick easy fix. The same cover houses the RAM, should you need an upgrade and/or change there, with quick and easy access. Hard drive is held under it's own panel and requires an additional screw. CMOS was a bit more fun to get at...but given that I haven't actually *needed* to change it (merely to reset because I forgot a BIOS password after not going into BIOS for over a year)...but nothing was too terrible. This speaks volumes for anybody who's ever had to repair anything on their own laptop.

Overall, it's coming up on 3 years that I've had this laptop, and as a person who's replaced most PCs in 1-2 years, I'm still using it as my backup gaming rig. (It was my primary until I built my own desktop a couple months back.)

If I had more need for a laptop (was in school, had more travel for work, etc.)...I'd buy it again, hands down.

"Top notch computers; this website was the best seller I found, with the highest caliber hardware and best customization options of any computer store I've seen. I purchased the NP-9753 and have had no problems with it. The center gets a bit warm, but I bet that's due to the desktop-power processor being run.

I've seen a lot of reviews complaining about the customer service, but I can say that my experience was excellent; for some unknown reason my adapter stopped charging. No questions asked, they gave us a return shipping label and had us send it back; within a few days it arrived and they immediately sent back a new one, works just fine.

The shipping was excellent too; I knew as I was unboxing the product that it would be completely unharmed. I probably went through four or five boxes just to get the laptop out; the big main box that holds all the components, the box for the laptop itself, then another box more conformed for the laptop, another one with its own handle... they definitely put care into the packaging.

Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my Sager product and my interactions with the company.

"I concur with the reviews saying that these laptops are not reliable.
They are competitive at the initial price, but the final price (that is, after repairs) may come close to the one you pay for main brand laptop.

I had mine for 18 months, and it had to go back to Sager because it would turn off by itself. The motherboard + some RAM had to be replaced, which cost me $400 and 3 weeks without the laptop. I had not bought a protection plan because I had not had any problem with any laptop for the last 20 years, that was the first time ...

If you still want to buy a Sager, it is wise to take the 3-year protection plan. Another option is to find a refurbished main brand laptop.

"I really like my Sager laptop. While other companies are limiting what features a customer can have on their laptop, Sager has lots of options. That's a big point about Sager, options, options, and more options. I use my computer for work,play, and entertainment. Things like a built in Blu-ray drive(you can option to have an extra drive bay instead) and up to 32GB of RAM and removable battery are all a plus. Those that say they are bulky compared to others, are right. Why would I want a featureless laptop for the sake of a little weight loss and thinness? I can buy a tablet for that. I use my laptop as a dual OS Windows7 pro/ Ubuntu dual boot setup and it works great. I hope Sager keeps giving customers the options for tailoring a laptop to fit their individual needs. If they do, I will buy from them again and again."

"Very poor design prone to overheating. If you have high usage do not use this system as it can cause the motherboard to blow. I tried a second motherboard and that blew in 4 months(previous one lasted a year and 1 month i.e. just out of warranty). You can not get parts for the motherboard to repair it unless ordered from sager. It is the highest performing laptop for its price but, it needs better reliability.

"I have been a very happy customer of SagerNoteBook since 1992! I have purchased 6 or 7 Laptops for myself and several others for friends as well. They always have the cutting edge technology and good pricing. The service .... well, I have not really had to use that in about 20 years so, I'm fortunate. I got my last laptop on Nov 11, 2011 and going to upgrade soon. I will get another SagerNoteBook ... no question!

"I have been using my new NP9772-S Laptop for a week now and it is totally AMAZING!!!! It is 4 pounds lighter than my previous Alienware M17x R2 and about 3x faster. The screen is beautiful and the keyboard and touchpad are just right. I have to say it exceeded my high expectations. A+"

"Like many of you PC fanboys out there, I opted to go with specs as my primary source in picking this Sager over an Apple Macbook Pro. It was clear, I was getting a quad core i7 2.2Ghz over an i5 Apple. The monitor itself I chose 95% color gamut. I was excited. After the 1st year or so after gaming/using the laptop for school I was happy with my purchase. The monitor has bright vibrant colors and great specs. That's where the rest ends. 2 years down the road, my monitor produced 3 dead pixels, a hair inside the LCD somehow (probably from Sager's fantastic A+ build quality) the trackpad has worn down because they decided to go with the premium materials plastic and matte finished touchpad *sarcasm) and now has a nice giant splotch of where it was most used. All in all, I went in telescoping specs as my resource for making decisions, and now I walk out with a different mindset: specs and design. I think I'll go with Apple's laptop this time. There is a reason why the resale value is so great and that's because they use premium aluminum for the body and glass for the trackpad, so when your done with your laptop at the end of 5+ years, it doesn't look like it went through the grinder. Sorry Sager, specs are the only thing you have going for you."

"I purchased a np9130 about 6 months ago. i spent close to 3700 dollars upgrading everything. I will say the laptop is great. Pitcher looks great and so fast. Now last month my keyboard broke. I thought no problem just call xoticpc and get a new one. xoticpc put me into contact with a sager rep and started the whole process. that is when everything went down hill. sage sent me the wrong keyboard. not only did they send me the wrong one but argued with me about it. the part number was different and the one sager sent to replace my broken one was 1/8th of a inch to long. i sent pitchers showing the difference and everything and get a email saying i was wrong. about 2 and a half weeks later i actually get the right keyboard sent to me. well the knew keyboard that i am using came with a messed up space bar and works half the time. so i mailed the first broken keyboard back and the wrong one. now today i get a email from sager saying that they never received the keyboards. when i mailed the keyboards back i emailed David the sager rep the tracking number. today i get a email from David saying he never got the keyboards. so i pull up the tracking number and they package was received on the 6/3/14. about ten mins later i get another email saying they have the package. Spending 3700 dollars on a laptop and getting this kind of service with it is mortifying. i will never buy another sager laptop or have anything to do with sager after this. if i could get a refund i would. this is not a direct representation of xoticpc though they are awesome, will use them again."
