"I ordered for four laser printers I have for office and occasional home use. One package did not clearly state toner was compatible with printer I planned to use and I hesitated to open it. Phone support assured me that it was a generic cartridge and if it did not work, return/replacement would be easy. The printer was sold by office depot and apparently the "guts" are identical to the printer compatibilities labeled on the box. Works just fine.
And yes, the new HP ColorLaserJet 1600 cartridges fixed the smearing that had crippled use of the printer. My understanding is that excess toner is scavenged by the cartridges during use and eventually (at end of cartridge life) spills out over the transfer ribbon and pages. Whatever, the new cartridges fixed the problem.
Cannot beat the price, shipping was prompt and painless.

When I called into CS I was told too bad, you have to buy a new one b/c I can't return an opened OEM product. This was nearly $100 wasted b/c your company doesn't honor the products it recommends. "
