Very misleading company. Resells garbage, knows it, and keeps doing it.

"Saw product online, ordered a sample, then made order. Got product shipped. Nothing like what I ordered. Company insisted on keeping/stealing my money."

I do not recommend placing a large order with onlinemetals.com

"I have only made one purchase from online metals - aluminum tubing and sheet - (about $800 total including shipping made in mid-January 2018). Before-the-sale technical questions about their products were answered promptly and satisfactorily.

Shipments were staggered, but everything shipped within about a week. The materials I got seem OK - they provided a spec. sheet from the manufacturer which is good. One box was damaged during shipment. I notified online metals of the damage who arranged for return shipment. So far so good. Two weeks went by - no credit for the returned shipment (~$300 of metal plus shipping). I emailed online metals - days went by - no reply. I emailed again - no reply. A few days later I received credit for the metal, but not for the shipping. I have written since requesting help, but get none. (I got a brief reply that they were looking into it on March 7, but no further replies.) Today is March 17, and I think I have given them enough time to get this figured out.

So, I got stiffed for shipping charges, but I feel lucky I didn't lose more than I did on my first order. I have very low confidence in onlinesmetals.com. Based upon only one experience, their main problems seem to be poor performance in sales/customer service and accounting, and those problems are severe enough to keep me from ordering again or recommending onlinemetals.com to others.

Theft

"I am unhappy to report my experience with online metals has been an absolute NIGHTMARE. I have been charged $1400 in unauthorized charges. Staff seems to be helpless to control or reverse charges. This is the third morning now I have woken up at 5AM to a text from my bank stating my checking account has been drained. I am a college student with little extra money on hand, and so this morning, instead of going to my scheduled interview later today, I will be sitting here warning people, because my gas money has been stolen by Online metals. This is the first review of a company I have ever written, but I felt the need to warn people about the issues the company is having. I would highly discourage anyone from purchasing anything from them or giving them you card number.

Can't Get A Response

"We've been an onlinemetals customer for about 2 years now, have a net 30 account set-up with them as well.. When we've ordered from the company, I've always paid the bill the very same week we received the metal, so our account has always been in excellent standing. On Nov 15 I emailed my contact requesting an updated quote so I could order more stainless-steel bars, but the email was rejected because my contact no longer works for the company. So I then forwarded the email to their sales dept, and again, no response. Several days later I recv'd a "how'd we do" survey email, to which I replied and noted a horrible (1 star) rating as it was already 9 days since my initial quote request, yet I still had recv'd no quote from the company. So this morning I called and spoke with customer service, who assured me I'd be recv'ing a quote within a few mins. Here it is now 6 hrs later, 2 weeks after my initial contact, and still no quote. Clearly onlinemetals does not want our business. Look elsewhere for a metals supplier if you're using onlinemetals, something has happened at the company and the wheels have fallen-off because they're clearly struggling."

"The shipment was very fast. I order Stainless Steel 4" x 6" x 0.125" STAINLESS REC TUBE T-304 and asking also for Custom cuts. All cuts was not straight at all like you doing this by hand and the edges was terrible dangerous to cutting your fingers. I believe they are on top of pricing 248.00 US for 4 6 in pieces.
I think a customer can expect a straight cut and smooth edges.
The delivery speed was good - the quality of product terrible

"Ordered from them on 11/14 because they they claimed to ship same or next day. Six days later still showing processing. Emailed and got an automated response saying they respond with in 1 business day. 4 days later still no response. DO NOT believe them. They take forever and do not respond to you at all once they have your order and money."

"I used to be a fan of Online Metals. They were reliable and prompt with orders. In the last year, it has gone downhill. Despite the fact that their policy states that orders generally go out the same day, I can't recall it working that way in quite a while. They basically ship out whenever they get to it, even weeks later. My last order has not gone out, and we are now in the second week. I emailed twice over several days to ask what was going on. The first message got no reply. The second got a reply that said they had a backlog due to a new computer program. They said my stuff would be sent that day. But that commitment was not honored any better than the original shipping claims were: the order did not go out that day. While the rep was making excuses, the website gave no indication of any delays or unusual problems with the business at all. Furthermore, the computer glitch excuse does not explain the last year of declining service. I think the problem is the mindset of the people in that business. They think this is acceptable. It is a shame because Online Metals does have a great selection and good prices. But they can't be trusted to live up to their own policies, or to communicate honestly about what is going on. Online Metals makes patently misleading claims about the speed of their order processing. "

"It's hard to rate the customer service because there is NONE. I placed an order in early September and all went well, but not this time. I placed a small order (#658993) on 10/10/12 and got a confirmation email which included this:

"Need a UPS Tracking Number?
We'll send that to you in a Shipment Confirmation e-mail on the day that the material ships out.  So, watch your e-mail inbox!"

After couple of day with no such notification, I logged on to the site on 10/13 and saw that my order was still "in process." I then sent an email asking why? I got an automated message that said "We have received your request for more information. Thank you.  We do our best to respond to all inquiries within 1 business day."

It is now NINE days since I placed my order and I have received neither the item nor any communication. This is very dissapointing. I had thought I had found my source for metals for my various projects, but the failure to communicate is a real problem.

Too bad.

"Of the two aluminum rods I ordered, one did not meet specifications (4" rod, 0.1875" thickness), being lopsided (0.1875" on one side, 0.125" on the other). Both had deep scratches from their cutting process that required tedious hours of sanding to remove. A previous order (#298811) too had problems with imprecise cuts. A 1/4" aluminum plate that was supposed to be cut to 1.3125" x 2" did not have straight cuts, instead looking like a trapezoid, and it even had beveled edges on two sides, something I did not ask for. I will take my future orders someplace else."

"Rip-Off. Besides many mistakes on previous orders I was charged for the shipping costs of metal I never received.

They failed to notify me that a part of my order wasnet in stock (even though I specifically put a note in when I ordered the order saying to cancel the order if any part of it wasent in stock)

Ok so I open the box and its missing the most important piece. I call them up and am told the part will be in that day (5 days later) and when i tell the guy I need it immediately he chuckles. I was told they called me but never received any call, turns out they called the wrong #.

So no prob I say cancel the part and I will go somewhere else. I check to see if there was a credit issued and notice they still charged me for the shipping of the part that wasent sent.

Their web site is cool and easy to work with but their customer service is awful.
(thats not even including the "ripping me off part"

"Purchased 3 6061 aluminum panels to mod some PC cases. Had them custom-cut to spec. Panels were delivered as specified. The cuts were exact and straight. Shipped via UPS 3-day. Received on schedule. The site kept order and ship-tracking information current. I plan to purchase additional material from them for future case mods."

"great service.
i was particularly impressed by the shipping costs.
my order was over 20lbs and 2'x4' and it was only like $12 to ship it, theres places online that'll charge that much to ship a stick of ram.

deep scratches in some of the aluminum i recieved but that's my only complaint.
and that isn't really a big deal since i was planning on putting some serious time into sanding it anyway.

overall a good experiance
