Poor customer service

"I ordered a travel accessory and paid for 2 day shipping, but Magellan’s did not inform me that the item was backordered and would not ship immediately. I did not receive it until after I had left on a trip. When I returned it, I found that I was required to pay over $13 for shipping and insurance. I noted on the Magellan’s website that returns may not be processed for 6 weeks. I have done business with Magellan’s in the past, but it appears that the company has changed owners. I recommend that potential customers avoid buying from Magellan’s."

Replacement was USED & not entirely complete

"So I ordered an Magellan’s RFID 10-Pocket Café Coat in a size large, which is what I typically wear. But when I received the jacket it felt more like an X-Large Size. I returned the jacket for an replacement medium size. I had a coupon with first order, so was surprised to see a charge for the full price jacket. I emailed the company and explained that this was an replacement jacket and should have never been charge for the second one, plus I gave them the first price that I was paid. They did credit me, so in the end I received the replacement jacket with the only first price charge. I tried on jacket and it fit good enough, and placed in my closet. (Granted I should have fully looked jacket over--but hey I trusted them to send the correct replacement). So a couple of weeks later, it was raining and decided to wear the jacket, but thought that the jacket had an hood attached. Checked and realized they sent me a jacket with the zip off hood GONE and there was a stain on the inside jacket pocket! Because this was an replacement, I have no original receipt to return and if they call HOW CAN I PROVE THAT I DIDN'T WEAR IT, AND TRIED TO RETURN AS PREVIOUS CUSTOMER DID. GRRR!! I WILL NEVER SHOP WITH THEM AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Refund policy

"I ordered a Magellan's Women's Oasis Shirt size Medium for my wife's birthday at a total cost of $68.99. When we received the shirt and my wife tried it on, the size was right, but the sleeves were very bulky and unflattering, so we returned it. We just received a refund of $51.05, which is a 26% reduction from the price we paid! I called Magellan's and questioned why the full purchase price was not refunded. I was informed that we were charged for shipping and labeling costs. We expected a full refund, as we have received from other companies. We will not do business with Magellan's in the future as they do not really have an unconditional guarantee, as they do not offer a full refund guarantee. A 26% charge is unacceptable!"

"Paid $11.99 shipping for a purse and deflated travel pillow. To return the purse was $17 in shipping using the original box. Should have free returns like a lot reputable outdoor and travel companies. If you’re returning something try and cram it into the smallest box possible. Compare carriers, UPS, USPS, FEDEX for shipping cost "

This company is a rip off

"If they would just stick to making products that usable instead of coming up with ways to rip people off by getting them to be part of their VIP club. What I now feel like is "VERY IDIOTIC PERSON" because I didn't see the "fine print" that they would be charging me $13.00 per month just to be part of their club. What do you get for $13.00...you get free shipping and 10% off purchases. Well they are not Amazon and there is limited amount of items you can order from them. So I would say run the other way and do not buy from this company."

Buy your stuff elsewhere

"My mother requested a pair or packable shoes for her trip. I purchased the shoes and received them in a reasonable about of time, however both shoes were split across the soles where they were bent to put them in the little bag. Hello just because you put them in a little bag doesn't make them packable - you have to make sure you make shoes that don't break went you bend them!! Duh! So of course I called to request a prepaid shipping label to send them back (I wasn't even asking or expecting to get back the shipping I paid to receive the POS shoes). Not only was the CS rep talking over me and condescending he could not send the label. I said they would refund my shipping later, but then couldn't tell me how I was to show them how much I paid to ship it back to them. Not being able to tell me how that would work I was sure that he is completely BSing me and I will never see that refund. If I do get a refund I promise to come back here and raise this review by one star. If I get back both my shipping costs I will raise it two stars despite a poor quality product and a customer service guy who was kinda a ****. "

What a Joke

"A friend recently gave me a Magellan's gift certificate. I went online to their website to order some needed items. After making my selections, I went to the checkout. There was no option for using a gift certificate so I emailed them. The following day I received a curt email saying "Sorry, orders have to be placed by phone or mail to use." even though the gift certificate clearly stated "... order online @ Magellans.com." I ordered the needed items elsewhere. I then chose two items to order from Magellan's so I could tell the friend who gave me the gift certificate "thank you very much - I got.... from them." I called Magellan's by phone. It took 15 minutes and transferring the call from the number for placing order (with a long hold) to customer service to order two identical items. They took all my contact information, then had to ask for it all over again since I was not on their mailing list. I was finally told I should receive my items in about 2 weeks. What a joke. I'll stick with my online ordering from another company in the future."

Shady practices

"The product was fine, but I feel I was completely swindled into the VIP club with a $15/mo fee. I will never purchase from them again for this reason. Additionally, it is absurd to force somebody to call and wait on hold to dispute a transaction that was made online, but that's exactly what their customer service made me do. "

Expedited shipping a scam and rotten customer service

"On 22 September, a Saturday, I realized I needed a couple of last minute items for an imminent trip (early 25 September morning departure). Since Magellan’s offered “next day service” as an expedited shipping option, I ordered the items and paid the additional $24.95 to get next day Delivery. When the items hadn’t arrived by 22:00 on 24 September, I sent them an email cancelling my order, as it clearly wasn’t going to arrive before my departure.

I received a return email stating that they don’t ship on the weekend and so the “next day service” would apply from the Monday, meaning I would get the delivery on Tuesday—three days after I submitted the order. I went back and checked the order form and there was nothing at all about “next day service” potentially taking three days on the weekend, so I wrote them back and suggested they add that to the order form. The reply I received referred me to the shipping information on the customer service tab. Well, it is in fact spelled out there, but I pointed out that without a notice placed on the order form, customers wouldn’t think to seek out further information. They insist that this language on their customer service page serves as having notified me, thus turning what had been a mild annoyance on my part into a major irritation.

I have asked them to remove my name from their customer lists and to stop sending me catalogues, and I have forwarded the entire email chain, complete with the screen shot of the order form that contains no caveats about weekend shipping, to the company headquarters of Magellan’s parent company, Potpourri. I have no expectation of action, but I wanted them to know that they have lost a customer forever and that I’d be posting an online review about my negative experience with Magellan.

What’s especially irritating to me is that I’ll have to pay to return the merchandise and they are almost certain to not refund the expedited shipping fee, as in their mind they satisfied the requirements. I am SO DONE with this company.

Merchandise on perpetual backorder

"This is the 2nd time I’ve ordered the same items and NOT received them.
I have emailed customer service multiple times.
I just spoke with 3 different people in customer service.
The bottom line is, even though the online catalog show my items available Sep7,2018, my items are not available
and no when can tell me when they will be. If I decided to wait I would still be charged shipping fees.
I canceled my order. Stick with Amazon.

Magellan's puts the capital S in the term Schlock Outfit.

"My experience with the quality of the merchandise has admittedly not been bad. However, their inability to execute even the most basic business processes such as picking and shipping an order, arranging to have it delivered in a reasonable time, and most importantly, to be able to help the customer when something goes wrong is unequalled. My last order was lost and the tracking status showed that it was finally returned to the shipper. When I called their customer service number (and I use that term loosely), I was instructed to reorder and that I would be credited on return which I did. Surprisingly, that order was delivered almost in the 8-10 day period originally estimated. A week later, the original order arrived at my home in a demolished box that could not be reused. I called again and was told to ship it insured at my expense at a cost of $33 even though both the shipping status and their customer service told me that it had been returned to the shipper. When I asked for credit they were not helpful but said if I faxed they would "make a note of it". When I asked for an email address instead, I was given someone's personal email at some third party in some third world country that had no authority to do anything. I finally gave up...both on my credit and this company."

Magellans VIP - Satt Away!

"Ordered a few things from Magellan in the past and never had problems. This time, got the "enroll in VIP" message when checking out. I talked to two different customer service reps about how the VIP program works and neither one of them informed me about the $14.95 MONTHLY charge. Not sure either one of them really knew what they were talking about since they told me two different things!

Why would anyone pay $14.95 a month to enroll in a VIP program. Definitely cancelling. Very disappointed in Magellan.

Expensive and Slow

"I ordered 2 pair of compression socks for my handicapped husband on July 7 for a whopping $80. They have been to NORTHBOROUGH,MA, MARION TWP, PA, SMARTPOST GROVEPORT, OH, GROVE CITY, OH, LA GRANGE, IL, DALLAS CITY, IL, ALVA, OK, LAGUNA, NM, NEEDLES, CA, STOCKTON, CA, SACRAMENTO, CA and finally SAN FRANCISCO, CA where I live and where Magellan's haned them over to USPS. What in the world are they thinking? 2 Pair of Socks could fit in an envelope and be mailed by USPS from the factory and they would be here."

BUYER BEWARE

"I ordered three items, a LUXE INFLATABLE NECK PILLOW, a SET of THREE MESH POUCHES, and a VAULTPRO GATEWAY BAG for my 13 year old daughter for her 8th grade class trip to Washington DC. When I received the items there was a sticker on the outside that read : WARNING – THIS PRODUCT MAY CONTAIN A CHEMICAL KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE CANCER, BIRTH DEFECTS OR OTHER REPRODUCTIVE HARM. None of the prior reviews on the website say anything about this. In fact ALL the reviews on the website are glowing.

Note: I was not able to post my review on the Magellan website itself. It kept showing an "error" and "try again later." Then I realized that it is not possible to leave a 1 or 2 star review .... which explains why EVERY item on the site has 4.5 stars and above.

I am feeling a bit suckered. Proceed at your own risk.

"Magellan's will charge your credit card $14.95 per month after the 30 day "trial." I entered my email on their website to get special offers, I had no idea my credit card would be charged! I got a postcard for an offer and I read the fine print "when you first enrolled, we'll automatically extend your VIP membership and benefits for $14.95 per month, charged to the same card you used for your recent Magellan's VIP purchase." DON'T ENTER YOUR EMAIL FOR VIP PROGRAM!!"
