"I made the horrific mistake of making a $13 purchase through Lens Authority. I supplied the required information for my purchase, including all payment details. The next day, I received numerous emails telling me they couldn’t verify who I was and my office address of 12 years.
They received my payment and only needed to forward my order to the supplied correct address. Instead “Michael” sent me numerous emails about be afraid this might be a fraudulent purchase of a “$13” Sony Lens Hood.
Like most people. I have made many internet purchase this season, 26 purchases in total, ranging in price from $13 to $679. Unfortunately, I just spend the last twenty minutes on the phone with a company with zero regard for customer service and solely consumed with protecting their short sighted self interest.
The time wasted dealing with a company that should remain “just a little corner store” was ridiculous and their arrogant and dismissive responses completely unacceptable. Buyer Beware, could you imagine ever having to return a purchase to them?"
"I was looking for a 400mm 2.8 series lens when I received an email announcing the Black Friday sale. The 10% discount made the lens irresistible.
I order it on Wednesday and asked for a Monday delivery which was easily arranged.
The lens came in great condition except for the scratches noted in the description. Optically it was perfect, all controls worked smoothly and I am very happy with it. The Wimberley plate I also got was missing the safety screws, but that was noted in the description. I purchased them locally. The description are accurate so I feel comfortable purchasing from them again.
Service was great, they kept me informed every time something happened and responded quickly to my email.

I'm lucky enough to own a brand new Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR, and I wanted to get a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8E FL ED VR to compliment it when my wife and I are doing wildlife photography. The 800 is *insane*, so I know how well a high-end Nikon lens can perform.
So as much as I *really wanted* the 400mm, I really also didn't want to spend a fortune on it. The thing about these "pro lenses" is that they retain their value absurdly well, so it's nearly impossible to get them at a heavy discount.
Sure enough lensauthority had two of these 400mm lenses available for what amounted to about a 15% discount. That's not a huge savings, but for these lenses it saves about $1,500. There was an "excellent" and a "very good", I went with the "excellent" condition one which was only $200 more.
I'm not 100% sure that I'd say the cosmetics of the lens itself were "excellent" (more like "very good")... I know I certainly take care of my 800mm more than this lens was. That said, I'm wrapping this baby up in camo, and all that's left is the glass condition and performance of the lens. The glass, which matters a lot more than cosmetics, is (amazingly) flawless. My guess is lensauthority cleaned it packaging, but regardless... it was *perfect*. That being said, even if it weren't, it really doesn't matter much at that focal length. The auto-focus is every bit as good as it should be (again, I can compare to my 800mm).
So yeah, while I was only saving ~15%, I still think it was worth it to buy used through lensauthority.
I will be buying every lens I get through them going forward. You're only shaving off a small percent off new, but when these lenses hold their value so well it's like guaranteeing it will resell well.
Anyway, I'm pleasantly surprised by the lens I got. I know there are a lot of good reviews of this company on this site, and it's nice to see they are justified."
