"Bought a faulty belt for my turntable from these guys and could not get an email reply to save my life. finally had to open paypal claim just to get a response, but the owner Rome, waited until the last day just to respond. returned my item with tracking and never got a refund. had to escalate it to paypal dispute process. "I had no issue with the item I purchased--but I did take issue that after paying $9 shipping, the expensive cartridge arrived in a box that was crushed and nearly fallen open. I sent an email to the company with photos of the damaged box and received no response. I sent a follow-up email several weeks later asking if anyone was going to respond to my complaint, and was told that the lack of packaging was deliberate, and I quote, "If you find admirable the packaging that you so heartily endorse then we gladly accept your preference to take your future business elsewhere." "I've been buying from LP Gear from almost a decade, and when they say it is an OEM replacement by the original, it is. If they give you an alternate, it's up to you to read their description and make your decision. Example: 6.5 year ago I bought my first new turntable (Denon DP300F), and they gave me the original cart (conical stylus) and installed a different one with an elliptical .3 x .7 mil that I used for a long time. It is still a favourite cart today. That's why I bought the TT from them. I've bought drive belts, platter covers, etc. Most recently I bought an Ortofon 2M Blue for my son and the import from Japan (exclusive to LP Gear) Audio Technical AT-V7 and both included original OEM stylus discounted. They helped me choose the AT-V7 because I was using it in a Rega RP1 (not bought from them), and I had to modify the arm (new wiring), and two precision inert washers to raise the arm up high enough to use the cart. I can stand someone giving an accurate reason they don't like something, but stupidity shows immediately in their review. I've watched interlopers destroy Amazon reviews, and I hate to see it happen here."

"I had never ordered from LP Gear before and as I do most of my online ordering on Amazon and eBay, I am cautious when I go to new online stores. I looked for reviews and this site came up first on Google. The stylus I wanted was priced the best on LP Gear by A LOT, and it was not available very many other places at all as it is discontinued. The reviews for on ResellerRatings looked so bad that they made me almost give up on LP Gear. So many reviews claim bad communication, incorrect items, not genuine products and difficult returns.

I also checked the forums on vinylengine.com where the experienced vinylengine users stood up for the store and a few first-time-and-only-posters seemed to troll the store.

I emailed LP Gear to voice my concerns and to see how well they communicate. They responded the first thing in the morning! (I emailed them late after hours the night before.)

I liked what they had to say. They assured me that I would get what I ordered and a genuine product. I decided to give it a try and hope PayPal or something could protect me if things went wrong.



My order came fast with the cheapest shipping option (3-days)! I got the correct product. It was the genuine stylus, and it was the best price I could find!

Make sure to do your research about what you need, and really read the product page before you buy to make sure you are looking at the correct item.



LP Gear had good, quick communication, great pricing, fast shipping and the correct, genuine product. I would recommend them and buy from them again!"

"Price is right compared to Jico. Same stylus. Don't be fooled however. All stylus are Elliptical Diamond and not Stereohedron, Line Contact or Shibata. You get what you pay for and that is a replacement stylus for your cartridge. Same with Jico. Bought two there waited two months and got Elliptical Diamond instead of Stanton and Pickering Shibata's. "TL;DR version: Bought an over-priced replacement stylus from LP Gear, received a cheap Chinese stylus is poor and unusable condition, LP Gear would only offer 50% refund "out of goodwill." My suggestion: Buy from Amazon or a local retailer instead.

The owner of LP Gear is not as unresponsive as many have claimed, but I found their return policy and, most importantly, the quality of their styli to be unacceptable.

I ordered a replacement stylus for my turntable because my old one was skipping over finer grooves on 180g vinyl. The description of the item stated that it would fit my turntable, which it did once it arrived, but the sound was very distorted. It was a cheap Chinese replacement on top of that, and DEFINITELY not worth the $38 they were asking for it. No matter how much fiddling it took, there was no fixing this issue because the stylus they shipped me was bent (perhaps in transit, or perhaps it's a returned item they resold for profit).

In any case, I asked for an RMA (returned merchandise authorization number) and shipped it back to them via Priority Mail (~1-3 days). About ten or more days later, I e-mail them asking about it. The next morning I received an e-mail saying that the item was returned bent and that they could only offer a 50% discount on [another purchase.] Totally ludicrous.

I already bought a new Audio Technica needle from Amazon for $9 and it worked great compared to the one LP Gear sent me, so I stuck to my guns and e-mailed back saying that the item was sent to me in unusable condition in the first place and that I deserve a return. In the end, they were only offering me a 50% refund "out of goodwill."

Do yourself a favor and read these reviews of LP Gear carefully. I suggest avoiding this business if you're looking for quality stylus replacements, but I can't speak for their other items."

"Awful. They claimed that their cartridge would fit my turntable, and I got excited since I couldn't find it anywhere else. Once it didn't, I set up a return. They charge $10 for shipping (which can't cost more than $3 since its first class!) then say that shipping isn't refundable AND that there's a $6 restocking fee. I spent $36, got $19 back and they wasted my time. They also took a long time to refund me, and sent me a nasty email saying it's my fault that I trusted their opinion basically and that I should have figured it out myself. Consider yourself warned, I wish I listened to these reviews before ordering from them!"

"Just wanted to post a decent review since it seems like only disgruntled individuals have the motivation to review LP Gear here.

I ordered a turntable band for my Onkyo CP 101-A, and I, too was weary of the reviews I had seen here for LP Gear. I will say that I would be more nervous if I had purchased a cartridge or a turntable - I wouldn't have taken THAT big of a risk.

Nonetheless, I shrugged it off since I was only buying a $20 item, and didn't mind waiting. I ordered the band on Wednesday, 7/9/14 and it arrived Monday, 7/14/14 in good packaging (although I imagine it would be difficult to damage a turntable band). Altogether the packaging was nice, and it arrived relatively quickly.

I did have to send two e-mails and a fax to get a response from LP Gear to assure they received my order correctly, but everything went relatively smoothly otherwise.

To summarize, although I have no reason to be wary of the company, had I been buying something more expensive, and because of the "warranty stories" I have been reading, I would only purchase things from them that are either nowhere else to be found, or something that can handle the USPS beating it is bound to endure."
