"I ordered a 120" manual screen and received it in 3 days. I was very impressed with shipping speed, it is by far the fastest shipping I’ve received by far. Shipping price was also very fair.

Upon opening the packaging I noticed that one side of the screen was lodged into the cartridge. This was possibly due to either the initial assembly of the screen or shipping. The only way to solve this was to open up the cartridge itself. That's when the problems started. The spring instantly unloaded, letting the screen roll down and leaving me with a unretractable screen. This lead to a hefty amount of frustration as me and my brother were left holding the cartridge about our heads while my father was holding the screen above his, as to not let the screen touch the floor. We rigged the bottom of the screen to the ceiling and placed the cartridge on a step ladder. No problem I thought, a minor set back, time to consult the instruction manual to see how to reset the spring. Now I'm no genius myself, but my brother is a 4th year mechanical engieneer at Ottawa U and my father a PhD mathematician. All three of us were befuddled with the gibberish posing as instructions. Be warned, the instructions were written by chimps! Decipher them if you can, but I suggest that you tinker with the mechanism. It took three failed attempts and numerous f-bomb's before my brother was finally able to tension the screen so that it would come down and retract perfectly. I don't blame Eastporters, as they did not make the screen, but perhaps they may want to consider making a revised, more user friendly, manual (Chart displaying screen size measurements and rotations for tensioning is as confusing as they come).

The above paragraph is by no way a complaint regarding Eastporters, merely a personal anecdote. Hopefully this may shed some light for others who experience the same problem. Rather than return the screen, take the time to learn how it works. The info may come in handy down the road and you’ll gain a sense of satisfaction when everything actually comes together.

As for the screen itself I have yet to test it with a projector. There are a few waves in the screen but I assume this is normal for any manual pull down screen. The shear weight of the screen makes the waves hardly noticeable, I’m sure I won’t see any distortion when I’ve got something projected unto it. I’ve also noticed a few crease marks in the screen, nothing too bad, but noticeable. This may be due to our handling of the screen while we were fixing the spring problem. It also may be a reality of pull-down screens in general. Anyways I can’t complain as I’m sure any projector screen would exhibit the same characteristics. Plus at the price Eastporter’s sells it at, it’s a steal!

"First, know what you are doing. As the name "Eastporters" implies, they import projectors from the far east (Japan). So do your research on the product you are buying as some brands of projectors do not include english menus. Suprisingly, the Mitsubishi HC3100 I received had both the buttons and remote labeled in English. The firmware menus were easily changed over to English, as was indicated in the english version of the manual I checked before purchasing. As long as you know and accept that you are getting a projector imported from Japan, there will be no suprises.

I ordered a Mitsubishi HC3100 the evening of 4 Dec 2006 and received 8 days later on 12 Dec 2006. According to the store, the projector had to be ordered, although their website showed it as "In Stock" Post-purchase support could be better in the form of E-mail notifications of any delays, and a notification when the item has shipped. Also note that even after your projector ships, the online invoice status will never change from "Processed" to "Shipped".

With one very, very minor exception, the projector works perfectly. (small speck of dust apparently on the inside end of the lens - only noticeable on pure black scenes on the lower portion of the screen, and even then just barely). And so no experience dealing with the 15-day all defect guarantee, and no experience with having to go through them for warranty work.

For some reason on orders over a certain dollar amount, you have to pay through PayPal instead of with a credit card. This could make some people leary since wire transfers through PayPal don't offer you the same protection as you would get if you ordered with a credit card."
