"Ordered a good deal on a AMD Duron motherboard with cpu & memory, but i wanted it shipped to an address different than my billing address. They called saying it wasn't registered with my Visa credit card. So I gave them my Chase Mastercard number, which I had registered my shipping address back in May.

A week later, I get an email saying that my order is being processed and will ship in 2 days. I check my order page, and there is a notice (hidden under shipping address) that my address could not be verified with my credit card company. I called them, and they said they were shipping to my billing address, and that they had supposedly called my credit card company three times to verify my address, and couldn't. And the guy (Greg - very unfriendly) said the order had already shipped and there was nothing he could do. I called my credit card company again, and they told me, yes, your address is on here, and it has been on here since May.

My credit card company got Computech on a three-way call, and when we talked to him, I asked if I could just cancel the order instead. He said "Ok, it's cancelled" and then hung up. Didn't even say bye or anything. My credit card rep. suggested I call back and talk to a manager to make sure everything was sorted out.

At this point, I'm very confused - first he said it was shipped, and theres nothing he could do, now he said he canceled the order?

So I called Computech again, this time the number for customer service instead of sales, and talked to Steve. I told him I wanted to cancel my order, and explained why. He told me there would be a 5% fee for cancelling. I decided that I would try once more to get them to verify the shipping address. He was much more helpful, and actually called the credit card company again to verify my address. The credit card company told him my shipping address was not on record.

This, I suppose, is partly the falt of my credit card company, and I was angry. I called my credit card company back and got an idiot who didn't know what was going on. She told me my shipping address was not on the record anywhere, and assurred me she knew how to operate the computer. I told her to enter my shipping address then, and asked her to do a three-way call, like the other rep. had and call Computech and tell them my address was ok. I waited for about 5 minutes listening to her go "uhh, let me see...oh look at this button i've never pressed it before...hmm...yeah....oh maybe this button will make it work...I'm sorry, i've never done this before" I finally just hung up and called my credit card company again to talk to a new rep.

When I talked to her, she told me my shipping address was listed twice!! But said that the first time, since I had listed it a couple months ago, they have to enter some code or something to see it, and the other reps might not have looked for it. So I wanted her to call Computech, but she told me they weren't allowed to do that, I would have to have Computech call her.

So I called Steve at Computech back, told him that he could call them back one more time please, and he said he would, but then he just hung up on me. I didn't know why he didn't put me on hold while he called like the first time, but 15 minutes later, when i was going to call back to ask if it worked, I realized he had hung up because it was 5pm EST and he wanted to go home.

Now it is after 5pm EST, and I have no idea if they will
A) Cancel my order
B) Cancel my order & charge me 5%
C) Ship to my billing address, which would cause me lots of problems
or
D) Actually ship it to me

I'll update this if I get a chance.

"Hrm, starting to get real worried. I found a great buy on a notebook hi performance laptop. Ordered on 8/26/03. I received the confirming email and waited a few days. I check the status and it showed pending. That's when I saw that they had charged me immediately and the disclaimer that says they test and build the system for 5-7 days prior to shipping. So I waited out the 7 days. It still shows pending, so I called. They're toll number rang with no answer, but I got an answer right away on the 800 #. The guy said I should have received a second email and said I did not reply. He said they were out of stock and should get them some more next week. I started doing some digging, which is what I should have done first, but what I found is not to promising. Hard to tell, some had real bad experiences, some just said you have to wait a long time but were happy with the product. I suppose in some sort of faith (like I have a choice at the moment) I'll wait the week and see. I'm no idiot to on-line computer purchases. In fact I do tons of it. As attractive as their prices are, and their notebooks look real good, I would recommend probably going with a more sure bet outfit, when dropping a good chunk of change. I'll do an edit as things progress.

09/09/03 - Well apparently once I inquired both on phone and via their web site, I miraculously received a UPS tracking email from AmericanComputech. I've been following it along, and it is due for delivery today. Hopefully, it will be the correct and undamaged laptop, so I won't have to deal with these people again. On further thought and research, I won't be using these guys again - or any of their other web sites selling the same stuff under different names. Read further down the posts for a list of the half dozen domain names they sell under. I'll edit again once I examine the parts.

Received the laptop. Packaging was well done to the standard. Unpacking and inspection, very little documentation was available on assembly on many compartments were shipped open, so it is not for the weak-hearted. None the less I had the HD, and CPU installed soon enough. After loading XP Pro, I was able to verify that the hardware was as described. Checked the memory to make sure it was DDR333, hyper-threading was in fact enabled and working, battery was working. Old drivers on the CD, but allow for easy detection of exact model so-as to DL new updates. Don't go to ECS (the manufacture) as they offer nothing of any value driver or software wise. Anyway, this isn't a product review except as to say that it is nearly as advertised. Nearly meaning that they did not state that when on battery, the 3GHz CPU will under-clock to 2.13GHz, which is for better battery performance. The battery lasts just short of two hours which is less than described but not a bother to me. If I wanted killer battery life I would have gone with a true mobile laptop not a desktop replacement. I think the negative comments made me worry more than needed as other than slow shipping I believe I got a great deal on what I wanted. Probably wouldn't order again as it appears that eventually you'll get burned. I, thankfully, was not this time!

"This is NOT a trustworthy firm!!

horrible service - my laptop broke within the warranty period and American Computech refused to service it because the warranty that THEY get from the manufacturer had expired. The manufacturer apparently only provides a warranty from a year of the shipping date to the distributer; the warranty given by American Computech on the computer was supposed to be a year from *my* purchase date. American Computech refused to service the computer becuase they would have to pay out of pocket.

"I placed on order on July 4th with this company, and a little over a week later, my order status was still 'Pending'. I wasn't worried yet, but then I searched around and found this site and read some of their reviews. That's when I got worried, so I called them up and asked when they would ship my order. The guy I talked to had a thick japanese/russian accent, I couldn't tell, but he said that it would be shipped Monday the 14th. Well it wasn't shipped, so I called again. He said it would be shipped that Thursday. Not shipped. So I called Friday and they said it would ship that day, and it was, finally!
I received my computer that Monday. Needless to say, I was impressed (especially after reading some of these reviews). I had my own OS and graphics card to put in it so I put it in, booted it up, and installed Windows. It runs great! I even double checked to make sure that they didn't screw up on any of the components, and they got it all right. There were even a few pleasent surprises when I got it. The case had blue lights on the front, and they had a 3 color LED fan in the side of the case, it looks awesome.

The prices that these guys offer are unbeatable, and if you're willing to wait a while on your order (They say 5-7 days, it's actually more like 2 weeks), they are definately good to buy off of, as long as you know your stuff about computers and what you're buying. I'll definately buy another computer off of them (they have some nice looking desknotes).

I could only complain about a few things in my dealings with American Computech...

Number one would have to be the length of time it takes them to ship. Takes forever. When it does ship, though, it is well packaged and arrives fast (Thank you UPS!)

Second, they charge your credit card immediately. If your order was on back order for any signifigant amount of time, your 30 day protection on your card might run out...

And lastly, the customer service. They need to get some people that are fluent in english to answer their phones.

"I found what seemed too good to be true, a great deal on a fast laptop, the Prostar with an Athlon processor. Complaint #1 - They charge your credit card when you first purchase and not when shipped, two weeks later. Complaint #2 Customer service shouild be renamed customer suckish, they people you talk to are deceitful and misleading and refuse to get you information. Complaint #3- I have yet to get my computer, the tracking number is invalid, but they say it's my fault. Complaint number -3 Phil, greg and ehidel are deceitful and tell you anything but the truth. This place is a scam and I have filed a complaint with my bank and the attorney generals office, buyers better beware of these scamsters...."

"Laptop that I ordered was in high demand. Was on backorder for over 3 weeks. Once the laptop was shipped, I received it in less than 48 hours. The site does not list if an item is in stock or not. Whatever account you use to pay for the item gets charged immediately, even if they do not have it in stock. This is in their online agreement, though. They were extremely responsive and courteous to my emails. Unfortunately, I will not return to the US for another week to check out the system. I will edit my post at a later time. *EDIT*
Upon returning to the US and finally getting to check out my new system, I have to say that it was well worth the wait. I got everything that I paid for and I'm extremely pleased with the system. It's exactly what I wanted and I got it at the best price available.

"I purchased the ACI DISRUPTOR NOTEBOOK G732 16" via telephone on 05/31/2003. At the time I placed the order I confirmed with the Sales Rep. that they had everything in stock and was told that I should receive it in about a week. Although they charged my Visa on the day that I place the order, it wasn't shipped till a week later and I received it on 06/13/2003. After setting up the Notebook and installing WindowsXP Professional, I discovered that it was shipped with a 4200 RPM Hard Drive instead of the 5400 RPM IBM Hard Drive that I ordered and paid for. Additionally, although this Notebook advertises support for and came with the 1024 Mb DDR333 PC2700 SODIMM's that I ordered, all benchmarks indicate that the memory is only operating at PC2100 levels. There are no user accessible settings in the BIOS to verify or correct this.

My main reasons for purchasing this Notebook was it's use of a Retail P4 Processor as opposed to the Mobile version, PC2700 support, CPU Hyper Threading, and 5400 RPM Hard Drive support. So far the only thing it was doing correctly was running the 3.06 GHz P4 Processor I installed.

Being that the Notebook arrived on a Friday evening, I had to wait till Monday to call Tech. Support and attempt to resolve the problems I was experiencing. The Hard Drive issue was resolved very promptly by them agreeing to ship the correct replacement after recognizing that they weren't dealing with a complete moron. I wonder how many unsuspecting customers are using inferior hardware as opposed to what was ordered, because they don't know how to tell the difference?? The Tech. Support guy I was dealing with had a difficult time understanding the issue I was having with the PC2700 DDR333 SDRAM, and referred me to winbookcorp.com, claiming that they manufactured the Notebook, and might have a BIOS update to correct this issue. I soon discovered that winbookcorp.com didn't even have the Notebook Model in question and are just another re-seller of what turns out to be an ECS manufactured product. So much for having faith in americancomputech.com Tech. Support??

The straw that broke the Camels back was my attempt to run the Notebook on battery power only to find that, even with a Retail Pentium 4 3.06 GHz Hyper Threading Enabled Processor, the overall performance level dropped below 50% of AC power performance!! To add insult to injury, the posted 2.5 Hour battery life with this Processor, turned out to be a mere 1 Hr. 50 Min. when fully charged. I could understand + or - 5 to 10 Minutes, but a full 40 Minutes at tremendously diminished levels of performance is totally unacceptable.

I decided that this product was totally misrepresented by americancomputech.com and after having it in my possession less then 5 days, I requested an RMA for a full refund. American CompuTech, Inc. replied that they would issue an RMA for a refund only under the condition that I agree to a 20% re-stocking fee, which is in excess of $300. They claim that they are only posting specifications supplied to them by the Manufacturer and therefore are not accountable.

To make a long story short, after numerous email communications, I have refused to agree to their re-stocking fee and am proceeding with a Merchant Dispute through my credit card provider.

I don't know how this will all end, the lesson I have learned from this is to always check resellerratings.com before dealing with an unknown merchant.

"I got my computer quickly and at a great price. I did have a Warranty issue with my motherboard. Within a month I had a new one which was sort of long. but, their tech support is very helpful depsite short availability hours. I would likely purchase again."

"After reading many of the bad ratings of this company I was a little uneasy about having ordered a barebones system from American Computech. But, 7 business days after I placed the order, it was in the mail to me, just as promised. I got the whole package a little over a week after I placed the order. Opened up the box, got everything as expected and everything worked when I put all my components in it. So, I have to say I was very happy with my experience. No problems at all. Prompt delivery, low prices, good parts, great deal."

THIS IS A COMPLAINT.
Hi I cut and pasted the e-mail that I have sent to the company.

Hi, I am writing this message because I placed an order the night of the 18th of feburary and called to cancel,number ***-***-****, talked to Phil, on the morning of the 19th.
Phil informed me, he cancelled the order and that there would be no charges. I have looked at my credit card statement and your company only returned 95% of what I paid and kept the other 5%. I reached Phil before the order reached anywhere that would cause me a 5% cancellation fee.
I want my money back.

Also I have talked to a guy named Dennis ext 215. He was very rude to me and hung up the phone on me the first time I called.
I was then transferred to ehidel who was supposed to be the supervisor. He did not take any of my information and didn't understand my questions and hung up on me also.
I will be forwarding this letter to every possible source I can to alert people about this company that is porly run.

"I've been -trying- to order something based on their pricewatch listings, but they always say they are "sold out", and refuse to take the order. They they hang up.

"THEIR 800 number doesnt even WORK!!Tried to place an order with this company. IM GLAD THEIR ORDER PROCESSING MESSED UP AND DIDNT PLACE IT. they are rude incompetent and deceitful. I cant imaging what kind of product they ship.
I called customer satifisfaction, sales, and factory guess what? THAT SAME GUY ANSWERED EACH NUMBER! This company is NOT what they appear to be..
