"Our Standard StowAway2 with wheels accessory kit and Plus Package LED lights upgrade arrived within about a week after ordering it online. It was shipped FedEx Ground just 3 days after ordering. I have a 2005 GMC Envoy XUV. Its an uncommon model with a retractable roof and 2 way tailgate opening both as a swinging door and a drop down tailgate like a typical pickup truck.

Because the database on the company's web site couldn't determine a proper fit for my vehicle, I called the company as directed by the site. I spoke to "Jim" who was very helpful and also patient with me in getting the correct measurements from my vehicle, the tailgate clearance and hitch placement, etc. so he could tell me if the unit would fit. It fits EXACTLY as he predicted and works as represented. Pretty hard to determine over the phone but Jim was very good.

I'm glad I ordered the wheel kit especially because it makes moving the unit around much easier once off the vehicle. TIP: read the accessory instructions BEFORE assembling the StowAway2 so you save some steps in the assembling process of attaching the plastic box to the very heavy duty steel frame.

It did take some time putting the unit together by myself; about 3 hours. A second pair of hands here and there would have been REALLY helpful. TIP2: Have a helper if you can. Be patient if you don't. It can be done singlehanded.

I've had it on and off my SUV, tried the lights, locks, swing-away features, and all works fine. Haven't gone anywhere yet but I hope to soon with my wife & I enjoying lots of extra room inside the vehicle. We can even drop the rear seat and make a bed inside the Envoy now without being hemmed in by all our stuff. I think it'll work out great. Thanks again Jim and everyone at StowAway for what looks to be a fine product. Looking forward to years of fun traveling in more comfort.

"We purchased the StowAway2 Max a month ago for our small motorhome and have taken it on three remote camping trips so far. It was just the thing to solve both our limited storage space problem and the rear entry access issue. The box swings out of the way and we have full use of the rear door unlike other hitch mounted boxes we were contemplating. The unit was a snap to install (and I am a woman with a bad back) between my grandson and me. We'll never travel without it again. Extra U-bolt stabilizers were necessary for each hitch extension we use to accommodate our canoe trailer under the box and they resolved the box's balance problems experienced without them. The only product improvement we'd recommend is the option to have either right or left swing capability."

"I purchased a StowAway Standard Hitch Cargo Carrier with 1.25" Swingaway Hitch Frame. The online purchase and delivery were conducted without incident. The swingaway hitch frame turned out to be extremely difficult to install. The stinger took over an hour to install into the hitch receiver. The stinger with the powder coat paint is larger than the hitch receiver opening. To fit the stinger into the hitch receiver I had to sand off the paint, use penetrating oil to lubricate the stinger and a rubber mallet to drive the stinger into the hitch mount opening. This contrary to all the online reviews I have read about ease of mounting the frame. To verify if I was doing something wrong I called Customer Service Tuesday during their business hours. I never was able to speak to anyone. Each time I was immediately transferred to a voicemail and directed to leave a message. Two days later Justin from StowAway finally returned my call and left a voicemail while I was at work. I tried to call back StowAway that afternoon only to be hungup on twice.
Once installed the unit worked very well on our road trip. The StowAway met all expectations during the trip. But the same level of frustration was present when trying to remove the stinger from the hitch receiver. I had to remove the cargo carrier box from the swingaway frame, soak the stinger with penetrating oil and use the rubber mallet to dislodge the stinger from the receiver.
The difficulty in mounting and dismounting the cargo carrier severely mars a fundamentally good product. Because of this and the very poor customer support I have reservations about recommending this product.
