customer service is extremely lacking

"- cancelled order
- didn't notify customer
- contacted them for tracking number as no shipping reference was sent days after purchase and expedited shipping was paid due to tight time frame.
- was then notified of the cancellation and blamed email server for the lack of communication although I had received all other emails until the purchase was made.
- no remorse just - you have to order again.
- highly recommend avoiding this site if you want to receive the items you order.

Seasons Change Before This Company Delivers

"Who needs suede shoes in spring or summer when I expect my package to arrive? I ordered in December of '21 for a weekend getaway that required a lot of walking. I went, returned home, and still don't have delivery of my items. I paid for shipping and would have never chosen FedEx if I had a choice. My package has been on the local truck for three days (tomorrow day 4) and returned daily to their hub located within ten minutes from my home. A 'kid' supervisor called to ask for direction to my address this morning, yet, the driver did not attempt to call when he couldn't locate me again today. They simply list reasons for non-delivery such as the customer provided the wrong address or no such house number.
Sierra customer service was rude and did not want to hear anything I had to say. I learned a lot as a returning customer who used to buy through my business. I will not be back!

"Ordered items with two day air shipping. Never got a tracking number and my rafting trip coming up fast. I called them and they said it was cancelled. They took the money from my account, but told me it was cancelled because my bank account was declined. I never got any updates of that. Strange how my order was cancelled but my card still shows the charge a week later. They said it was the banks fault. The bank says I got screwed. They have hung up on me twice and won't give me a call back from a supervisor for 48 hours. Stay away!!!"

WORST ONLINE TRANSACTION CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!

"PURCHASED SNOW BOOTS FOR MY DAUGHTER ONLINE WITH THEM PRIOR TO XMAS 2020. HAD ORDERED FROM THEM BEFORE SEVERAL TIMES SO NOT WORRIED ABOUT TRANSACTION. RECEIVED ORDER CONFIRMATION AND THANK YOU IN EMAIL FROM THEM AT THE TIME OF TRANSACTION. (CUT TO TODAY) POWERFUL WINTER STORM DROPPING SNOW AND MY DAUGHTER ASKED WHERE HER BOOTS WERE? CHECKED EMAIL AND NOTHING ELSE FROM COMPANY SINCE TIME OF ORDER. CONTACTED COMPANY BY CHAT AND WAS TOLD ORDER WAS NOT FULFILLED DUE TO ISSUE WITH ADDRESS. SENDS EMAIL OF ORDER CONFIRMATION AND THANK BUT......., AT THE BOTTOM OF THE ORDER, CHARGE SAID $0 WHICH MEANT IT WAS NOT PUT THROUGH. OVER A MONTH WENT BY AND NO COMMUNICATION BUT FOR THIS EMAIL TODAY WHICH DID NOT SHOW A FORWARDED EMAIL FROM A PRIOR DATE. SO , PLACED ORDER, WAS THANKED AND NOTHING AFTER THAT. I WON'T ORDER FROM THEM AGAIN. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR ONLINE TRANSACTION EVER. DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE USING THIS TWO-BIT COMPANY. YOU CAN USE MOOSEJAW OR THE HOUSE INSTEAD WHICH I HAVE DONE. It used to be better, but it’s still ok

"I’ve been shopping at STP for about 20 years.

And yes, it half-way **** now when it didn’t used to **** at all. I used to tell everyone about it. Now I never recommend it because I can see how it’s not a great experience for new customers. Selection aside, their web server is DREADFUL. It’s ridiculous really. Bring you patience when using their website.

You have to know exactly what you are looking for and how to find it.

They still offer good gear and clothing at great prices. You have to know when the 25%/free shipping coupons come out, and you have to get lucky to get the really great outdoors stuff because it sells quickly. You can still consistently score some super killer deals on stuff, better than on most other websites (comparing to sale sites of REI, Backcountry, MooseJaw, etc). Pair it with the cash back discount from a site like Gear Obession, and you have a major score.

They are no longer an outdoors store. They sell all sorts of junk now, but do still carry outdoors gear.

Also, yes, their order prep and shipping speed is lacking. Also, worst taped shipping boxes in the industry. They always come crushed and the box lid virtually open and separated from the tape.

If you can deal with the bad, you can find some gems. This is a commentary on the gear selection, but the way the company is run is less than mediocre.

No customer service

"Tried to finalize an order but received an error message. Tried again-same thing. Later that day I used the online form asking why can they send an email to "take another look" but not to let me know the problem was fixed. No response. Sent an email asking again-no reply. Received a survey that I filled out with nothing nice to say. 3 weeks later still no answer.I gave up & closed my account & stopped emails. "

Great price for outdoorsy goods

"I bought thin silky thermals and they worked great. I've paid more else where and I actually prefer the ones I got from Sierra Trading Post. Although, it seems that they changed their name to just Sierra.com I remember buy stuff together with a friend to meet the minimum for free shipping, but no prob, we got pretty good deal"

"When I got my order in my mail, they sent me the wrong size, so I exchange it. The person assisting me online told me that he or she would request a two day delivery for my pair of shoe. When I got my order information it said that I would get it in another week.

Demise of a once great seller

"I have (had)shopped at STP since the days of their catalog with hand drawn images. Some great deals if you were patient and not too picky about color and what not. Also great customer service on the phone and in their store. (at least the one in Cheyenne) Now they are nothing but a TJ Maxx with some different stuff on the racks. Service? What Service? Stopped in the store in Ann Arbor on a business trip and the employees were scrambling to avoid customers or standing around chatting with boxes of times clogging the aisles. What a shame."

Shipping and handling is slowest in industry

"If you need something within 2-3 weeks, shop elsewhere. Prices are good but they have at best two people working in their warehouse. Last order (and will be my last) took 5 business days just to pull off the shelf and get into a box to ship. Not worth saving $2 on an item when other retailers (REI, direct from Brand, Amazon, Steep and Cheap, etc) can get me an item in 2-3 days max from date of ordering. If shipping was free, maybe it would be tolerable but not when they charge you. "

Not amazon shipping but great prices

"A lot of negative reviews. If you want great prices and free shipping, can't expect fastest shipping like amazon. Processing can take a couple/few days. Shipping info (USPS) doesn't reflect real time until product is well along it's way. I was scared with reviews but happy with Sierra. If you need something in a rush, pay higher prices elsewhere."

Oh, Campstool, what has happened to you?

"I started shopping with sierratradingpost.com when they launched in 1998, back when they were a small company that put out catalogs of 20 pages in length. All of the images in it were hand-drawn, the customer service was outstanding, and you could find high-quality outdoor and camping gear at a fraction of the cost you might pay at a local retailer. I am a native Western Montanan and outdoor gear is sort of a rite of passage for us up there.

I have literally spent thousands with the company over the years, if not tens of thousands. I never had to return anything, items were shipped quickly with accurate tracking information, products were described accurately and in detail, any questions were answered promptly by knowledgeable people who KNEW their outdoor gear, and the repeat/loyal customer incentives were plentiful and worthwhile. When I needed something, or just plain wanted something, I always checked with Sierra Trading Post first, even if that meant calling them to inquire about an item they did not have listed on their website or printed in their catalog. They were my go-to, first string depot and I still have items that I purchased from them over 20 years ago. The company was run with the customer in mind and was the litmus test for other online retailers to measure up to. Those were the days...

Enter the market crash of 2008 and the financial trouble that ensued for so many retailers. STP felt it, for sure. Downsizing, layoffs, you name it and it happened. Did this have a negative impact on their customers? Nope, not that I noticed. Still the same outstanding customer service (with a smile) and amazing deals and often hard-to-find products. All seemed well...

All was not well. Due to the financial crunch STP was purchased by the TJX brand of companies and we loyal fans cringed at what might happen. And all of it did happen. Gone is the amazing customer service, the customer incentive emails, the superb drill-down navigation of the website, the ultra-broad product selection, and the "mom and pop" feel of the whole thing. In its place we get "TJ Maxx with an Outdoor Flair", or "Stein Mart to the Extreme!" The emails I get use the same template as those from TJMaxx or Stein Mart and have that same discount store 'feel' to them. No coupons are ever offered. The print catalog is gone. The name is now, simply, 'Sierra'. Orders take forever and a day to process and will occasionally show up before the company even notifies you that they have shipped. Nobody I have talked to at Customer Service knows the first thing about hiking shoes or Leki poles... and I get a bit nauseous when I see the TJX credit card as an option at checkout. Eww... just, eww...

TJX, at the very least put back some of the features that made the old website so wonderful. If I am looking for a men's casual shirt I want more options than just short sleeve, long sleeve or 'graphic tees'. That's so Stein Mart of you. Give me back my long sleeve, button front, blue, large, cotton, Gramicci shirt or my short sleeve, moisture-wicking, white, Marmot t-shirt drill-down options again. Please.

The greatest online shopping experience ever has been reduced to this... this... thing. Sadly, this will be the last order I place with my old friend. Most of our 20+ years together were wonderful, and thanks for the memories.
