"I ordered a motherboard (the ABIT KV8-MAX3) from STR8BUY and shortly after received a phone call saying they were out of stock of the one I ordered, but would send me an identical board that went under a different name. I repeatedly asked if they had all the same features and was told "yes."
Once I had a chance, I look up the board they are going to send me and I see its nowhere even close to identical' The one I ordered was about $135+, the one they sent me was worth no more than $100 (according to outpost.com). They still charged me the $135.
I've tried calling them to straighten things out, but their customer care line has a recording saying they only accept sales calls and to refer to the website.
Of course, the website says for customer care, to call that customer care number (and the email receipt I got says to call that same number as well).
I ended up responding to their email invoice with my complaint, and have yet to receive a response (although it hasn't been very long, I'm ticked b/c they lied and won't take my phone calls).
Just like princenova, I've already contacted my credit card company to dispute the charge. I'm also going to file a complaint with the BBB if I don't hear back within 48 more hours.
I just noticed that 6 days after placing my order (on Aug 20, 2004) and being told the item I ordered was discontinued and not in stock, they still list it on their website (as of Aug 26, 2004).

This company seems to be trying to pull a fast one by sending me a motherboard worth so much less than the one I ordered while still charging me the higher price of the one I ordered, and claiming that its got all the same features (which it clearly does not).
I also find it interesting that the KV8-PRO they sent me isn't even listed on their website. I guess they just keep them around to send to people who order the discontinued stuff that they price so well, but not so well as to keep them from making money by sending you cheap motherboard.
I also see that STR8BUY has copied a lot of the 'VERY SATISFIED' ratings from this page to their website. STR8BUY, if you see this, please call me and straighten this out. I'll happily edit this review to say that everything worked out wonderfully if you would actually contact me and resolve this properly. My name is Stephen Ogletree, I ordered the ABIT KV8-MAX3 on Aug. 20, 2004. You've already called me once, from ***-***-****, so I'm sure you can do it again.
Update: Aug 27, 2004: Finally got a short email response saying I could return the motherboard if it wasn't opened. Pardon? They lie and send me the wrong board and will only give a refund under some condition[s]? Sorry... I've filed a complaing with the BBB and started a credit dispute with this company.
P.S. I'd really like to see the text on their homepage that claims that they are 'committed to the customer' be removed... Their customer care line doesn't even allow you to ask for help or talk to a rep unless you are making a purchase.

"Overall, I am pleased with doing usiness with STR8BUY.COM. I had ordered a DVD burner, specifically a retail version. I recieved an OEM version instead.
I sent an email to the customer service address, and also called. I got through to someone by using their order number, as they ask that customer service be done by email.
However, things went very smoothly after that. The gentleman told me how to return the item by refusing the shipment (although for my own convenience, I returned it myself), and told me that they would send the correct item out.
Since I was returning the item directly and gave them a tracking number, they did not even need to charge my card for the replacement while awaiting the retrun.
The item came as promised, packed correctly (foam peanuits in a correctly sized box).
I especially commend Jerry (the person I spoke with) for making sure everything was made right. Excellent communications and a friendly attitude.
They did go that extra step to make me, the customer, happy.

"Company is horribly ran. They sent me a quick e-mail with a tracking number but they did not actually give the package to the shipping company. You try to call and they try to avoid talking to you by setting a maze of numbers to press and you just get a machine by the time you find your way through. "Case arrived large dents on side and top, to the point the top piece does not slide off, and with bent slot separators, and holes in the box, looks like it was damaged in shipping.
4 hard drives were in very thin (about 3-4mm) padded envelopes bouncing around with extra fan and cables inside the case, with no peanuts or anything else in the envelopes, worst drive packaging I have ever seen. They say that they ship all their drives this way and have never had complaints about it, I really don't trust drives shipped like that especially when the case they are in has been through obvious abuse.
DHL shipping gives you a hard time with the damage claim about how they will need to come to inspect it to make sure the damage isn't repairable, "maybe it just looks damaged but isn't - did you try to use it?", making the RMA a PITA.
Once I got and filled out the claim form from them, I got 4 different answers from different employees there on what the # to fax it back to is (all of them wrong), and ended up faxing it to the # of the fax machine that sent me the form to fill out, and the amount of time I will have to wait for this process varies greatly depending on who I speak to, ranging from "someone will get back to you within 24 hours" to "6 to 8 weeks".
I still wonder why **I** have to go through this instead of the sender filling out the claim forms, especially when the items are insured and warranteed."
