orvis doesn't care

"Bought a pair of pants. listed for $98. billed my cc $145.50, orvis staff sent
a pair of pants made who knows where, that were 14 sizes smaller than I
ordered Sent them back to orvis. My package came back to me with a hand
written return" label in it, now I am over the return time to get my money back!
Orvis let me down, and, they sell clothing made in India, China, Viet Nam and
any country with cheap labor it seems to me. orvis puts a huge mark-up on said clothing and calls it "imported" I whish I had read the reviews BEFORE I shopped
with orvis.
orvis was a good store when the father ws at the helm..... but now it's just lame.

THE FUTURE OF ORVIS

"I have been purchasing Orvis products for many years, sometimes on my own, and sometimes by dropping hints to my wife whenever she feels like rewarding me for being a good boy. She knows that ordering just about anything for me from Orvis will be a home run.

If either of us could have purchased the shirts, coats, hats, sweaters etc. elsewhere for less, we would have jumped at the chance. I will make no attempts to sound like a loyal Orvis Customer. Considering their mark-ups, I am just another dupe, another fat little wallet waiting to be plucked.

They know their market well, and they are confident that their appeal to the "rugged country squire/outdoor sports enthusiasts (and wanna-be people) country gentleman" will always have the dough to shell out in order to keep that self-illusion alive, with a lot of help from Orvis, of course.

The truth is, even the upper middle class has dwindled, and the gap between the Haves and the Have-Nots has widened considerably. As of a few years ago, Orvis realized that they had better start appealing to ethnic groups other than upscale Caucasians, and their catalog photography reflects that. Each time I purchase something, I know II have paid them well, very well, for what I receive.
And Orvis is pretty sure that even though I am getting skinned, I'll keep coming back for more punishment. Well...they do have some cool products.
I've never seen any indications that Orvis thinks I'm special, or that they are head over heels "in loyal" (feel free to use that) with me. Likewise, I feel no special loyalty to them. I enjoy their well written catalog product blurbs, great photography and layouts, and I give them an A+ for their slick marketing.

Always on the road, their "Mr. Peterman" (Seinfeld Show reference) is outstanding in his efforts to find items that are typically of sound to superior quality, somewhat unique, and Orvis has smartly partnered up with companies like Barbour, Halley Stevenson and other strong old instant-recognition name brands that bring credibility to their overall line-up, all the while building lots of little internal name brands of their own (think RT7 and '71 Camo, and many more). You've seen them.

When Peterman scores, he or someone at Orvis secures a lucrative manufacturing contract that will allow them to tack on their typically obscene mark-up and the Big Ship Orvis steams on. Orvis is not picky about where they have things made. They would like to have you think of them as an All-American company--but what is that, anyway? It has kind of lost its meaning, hasn't it? It's disheartening when you look closer at their tags and realize that an awful lot of them are being made in China. Orvis, smarten up. The demographics are rapidly changing, and a new strategy is in order. And I don't suppose that you've noticed, but current inflation and economic policies are forcing us average folk to think over our purchases pretty carefully. Beads of sweat are breaking out on the forehead of a woman who is considering a for an "unheard-of" brand flannel shirt for her husband. It's getting near Christmas, and she's standing nervously in a long line at Walmart.

By the way, I have an Orvis baseball cap that I'll sell you, really cheap. I only paid 40 dollars for it, and it has the Orvis name in huge letters on the front. If you don't mind helping them out with some free Orvis advertising, I'll give it to you for only 20 bucks. You pay the shipping...both ways, if you decide it's too gaudy, or just doesn't look that great on you. I learned that from Orvis. --Mark Ison

Scam

"I ordered my shoes months ago. Given the run around every inquiry. Finally they said shoes were delivered via ups. They gave me a ups track number. I went on ups site and that number is nonexistent. Still no shoes."

Do not buy online from them

"They totally scammed me with shipping. I purchased several items and was charged shipping BOTH ways. I had to return the items because the fit was terrible. All items were brand new. I was charged for shipping to me plus shipping back to them. I lost a total of $50 on 3 transactions."

Dog personalized collar and leash

"Do not purchase the reflective personalized dog leash and collar. Not Orvis quality. I ordered one for my past dog, around 5 years ago. Great quality, personalized on both leash and collar. This time, it was only personalized on the collar. And really thin material and cheap plastic clasp that would break with a few uses, even on my 6 lb puppy. Was not happy with their customer service. They have to send me a label, I actually have to take to a UPS store (and I have none close), then wait for my money to be credited AFTER they receive the defective item. I have never had to deal with this much inconvenience with any online company, and I deal with quite a lot of companies! They are shipped from an outside source, so Orvis has no idea what poor quality they are sending. It looks nothing like the picture. "

Orvis order

"Earlier today I purchased a product thru Orvis. I emailed them within an hour to share with them I had ordered the wrong product and would like to cancel my order.
I received an email several hours later that my order could not be canceled, I would have to deal with the situation when the product arrived.
I purchase products online all the time. I will notify my credit card not pay to pay for this product. I can assure you that I will never purchase anything from Orvie again!

arrogant customer service and absolutely horrible shipping policies

"I order shirts, get an email stating it will arrive on Tuesday. One arrives on Tuesday, a call and ask were the other one is, minimum wage customers service agent acts arrogant and tells me the next one will arrive on a Friday. Friday comes and goes. Get email stating that the next one is arriving on the following Monday. This is not the first time, but it will be the last time they are incompetent to me."

Poor customer service

"Trying to get a billing issue rectified and all I am getting is the run around. My credit card statement is showing an overcharge and they are telling me that the overage is a pre-authorization charge. I call bs on that because, now I have been billed another amount and the overcharged amount is still pending.
Their customer service staff would rather argue with you than help you.
Will never buy from this company again.

Sad. They used to be good quality. Now not worth it.

"Had many issues with overpriced Orvis clothing lately. It is now poor quality Chinese made with an expensive Orvis label. Just buy discount Chinese clothing instead and throw it out after it wears out, splits, or discolors after a few uses. We are done with Orvis."

100% Unconditional Warranty my ....

"$500 for a duffel bag. Yes it lasted a good long time, but it was a gift from my school teacher father when I got out of the service. He spent $500 on a duffel bag specifically because the salesman touted their 100% unconditional warranty. After more than a decade of use, the canvas at one end split courtesy of airport baggage handlers. I contacted Orvis about an exchange... and was told the warranty is defects is materials and workmanship only! If you dig around enough on their website there is a SEPARATE warranty for luggage, not the 100% plastered all over their pages. Oh, but for a measly $60 + shipping, I can return it to see if they can repair it. If they decide they can't, they'll contact me about "options". Anyone want to bet that the option is replacing the bag with a new $500 Orvis?"

Horrible customer service

"Horrible customer service! Purchased 5 shirts that I ended up sending back because they weren't what I thought they were. Used their supplied return label and tracking number. They say they never received them and that I'm sol because they don't keep track of their return tracking numbers! I'm disputing this thru my CC company!"

No need to read another review

"My experience was nothing but what I expected from a company that not only produces quality products but stands behind them 100%. I am wondering why people write and complain about products and customer service. My experience was nothing less satisfying border line on one of the best that I have delt with. The only thing, as I pondered on the negative reviews that would be dramatically different from mine would be the way the customer service representatives where treated and spoken to. When things go wrong they are not to blamed if treated with respect, I believe there issue would be resolved in the same manner as mine. Which was nothing less than what I expected from Orvis. The proof is in the way they write their reviews. You can feel the attitude and disrespect by reading them. So if you have read this far, take my advice for what it's worth,I am sure you to will have the positive and great experience I have.
