"I've been buying model railroading supplies from this store and through their catalog and from their website for years. They have a lot of scale miniatures and modeling supplies that no one else carries. My wife also built a dollhouse and now does room boxes as gifts for friends and relatives, and she gets all her dollhouse supplies from them also, because they seem to have more than other stores. I've always get great service from them, and I especially like how the go out of their way to find things for our projects, when no other company seems to care. My wife and I love to shop at their store to when we are passing through. It is the largest toy and hobby store we've ever been in. Everyone is friendly and helpful. It makes us feel like kids again when we are in there, like Babes in Toyland. We will always buy from Oakridge Hobbies and Toys. Totally happy campers!"

"I came across this site looking for info on another store and came across this store's listing and was curious as to why it had such a low rating.?.?.? I have been buying my slot car and train stuff from them for years and have not once ever had a bad experience with them. I know they have a ton of customers, cuz they are ranked like one of the largest dealers in the U.S. in slot cars and hobby stuff. Compared to many online retailers their C.S. is pretty good, and there are live people there to talk to which is important to me. I have even bought from their other gift sites too like an 8 foot steel John Deere Windmill, which was heavy and they had it shipped from the manufacturer with FREE shipping in about a week, and 6 or7 years later its still blowing in the breeze, no problem."

"People need to be warned about out-and-out FRAUD being perpetrated by Oakridge Hobbies & Toys.

I ordered a Zoobox Nature's Foundry ZSK-402 Universal Solar Pump Kit from Oakridge Hobbies & Toys on Amazon. Price was nearly one hundred nineteen dollars, but it had excellent reviews on Amazon and on other sites, and all other online research indicates this was a nice high-quality little pump with a 5 year warranty and worth the extra money.

A couple of days after placing my order, I got an email from Oakridge Hobbies & Toys, stating (this is a direct quote):
"Hi, We sold our last one several weeks ago and subsequent orders took this alternative for the same price- STI1000- see the description- Would this be a satisfactory substitute or shall we cancel?" The email goes on to describe in entirety the cheap replacement one they say others have accepted instead.

Ok well first of all, why was Oakridge Hobbies & Toys still listing it for sale on Amazon when they sold the last one SEVERAL WEEKS AGO. Secondly, the STI1000 Toskana SunJet 150 Mini Solar Pump Kit, which was the one they were offering to replace it with for the SAME price, is a cheap piece of crap with universally bad reviews (on Amazon and elsewhere), which sells for one third the price.

Until I complained directly to Amazon and Amazon began an investigation into that seller, Oakridge Hobbies & Toys was STILL listing this item as available for sale on Amazon, even though they don't have any. So any orders they get for this higher-quality Nature's Foundry pump, they will try to convince the buyer to accept a cheap substitute instead, worth only one third the price... while they keep the buyer's ENTIRE payment for the higher value item. Nice little profit for them of about eighty dollars by charging for the higher priced item and conning the buyer into accepting a cheap substitute for the same price!

I canceled my order, of course. But I have to wonder how many other (quoting Oakridge's email) "subsequent orders took this [cheap STI1000] alternative for the same price."

Those buyers got scammed, big time. And I almost did. Beware this fraud-perpetrating company!

"I ordered a couple items on the seventh of june, they emailed me back a on the ninth saying it would be 7-10 days before the item shipped as it was not in stock. I said this would be fine, please ship the order together. So here it is the 29th. I had not received ANY email from them, and I emailed inquiring about the item. I received a badly formatted form email response saying it could be 7-10 days. When I asked if they were willing to waive my shipping as they were already ten days late on their initial promise I was responded to in a curt fashion and told basically, "no." I would not do business with these people as it appears from other reviews it is common for them not to stock items they list on their website, but instead to order them as needed. BUYER BEWARE: Unless you're willing to wait a long time to get your products, avoid these people."

"Horrible customer service. Placed an order on December 14, 2009 and was assured christmas delivery - called them on 12.23 to be sure, as the package hadn't arrived yet - it hadn't been shipped yet. I cancelled the order, it took almost 8 weeks (and an additional call to CS) to get the credit back on my card - they still charged a 15% restocking fee - for an item that hadn't been shipped yet. Won't ever shop there again."

"I placed an order with this store on Dec 12th and the item didn't ship in time for Christmas. On Dec 23rd I wrote them saying that they should cancel the order because not only did they not ship the item after two weeks but they didn't contact me to tell me that the item was on its way or out of stock. No reply. Then on Dec 28th they wrote me saying they shipped the item. I didn't want it anymore and I have a record of the email saying so. So I wrote again telling them I will dispute the charges and finally they replied saying okay we cancelled the order but we are charging you 15%. When I asked why they didn't answer. How can you charge me a restocking fee when I cancelled the order before it shipped? This company is disgusting."

"Well I am still waiting for the rest of my order that I placed on Dec. 21st. Received a AFX Track the next day and was so happyday

BUT..... The HO scale cars I ordered have yet to come and I called several times only to be placed on hold and then after a recording disconnected. No responce to now 2 emails. I am waiting, and so is my nephew for his Christmas Present :-(

"Our online shopping experience with Oakridge hobbies was a very pleasant one. We are International customers and we found the staff members' customer relations pleasant, responsive, caring and polite. Their prices are Ok. "I hate to complain. I normally think stores do their best to accommodate their customers. When I first placed an order in April, and it took over a month, and a phone call to get the toy, I didn't complain. They told me that they were having trouble getting it from the manufacturer. I believed them. I eventually got it. I ordered again from them. I placed the order on May 18th, and still hadn't received the order by June 5th. I called again, and was told the same thing. I cancelled the order and re-ordered it through another company, which ended up being a few dollars cheaper too. I will not order anything from Oakridge Hobbies again, as they are reliably not able to fill their purchase orders, and do not communicate with their customers. Potential buyers BEWARE of this company."

"Stay clear of this company. Placed my sons Santa order on Dec 12th and learned today Dec 23rd that they were out of stock. I had to call them to find this out. How could they do this to the boy? Not even an e-mail! What now do I tell my son on Christmas day? They should be shutdown. "

"I placed an order on March 7th, 2007 for a Playmobil Police Station. After an initial order confirmation E-mail, I received no further information such as a shipment notice.

I called on March 15, 2007 to ask whether the order had shipped. I was told it had not shipped and may not ship for another week. I immediately cancelled the order as this was a birthday present and the date would be missed.

I was never given any indication the item was not in stock and would not ship in a reasonable time frame. A call to the customer service number on their web page only took me to a voicemail box. I had to call the 800# order line to talk to a person.

"I ordered a toy for my son for Christmas Dec 11 with nothing indicating it was not in stock. On Dec 17, I received an email stating it had "just sold out." They blamed the manufacturer for not filling their order completely.
Before ordering, I glanced at an identical complaint on this site from last Christmas and did not heed the warning. I really wish I would have.

"I have purchased many items from this store. I was going over to complain about wal-mart and see what reviews it had and i decided to check out stores that i buy things from. To my surprise i found Oakridgehobbies.com on here with a dissatisfied seller comment. I have been buying many different things from this company for the last year and a half. I first started off buying scratchbuilding components for an photo shoot. I found toys on thier website which i searched through and wound up purchasing. I have ordered lots of 1/32 scale slot car products and i believe that thier customer service support and thier website had alot of helpfull info. I was impressed by the knowladge by the sales staff and the FAQ page. I overall had great experiences with this company. I will continue to order from them in the future!"

"I found this site attempting to locate a particular item to purchase as a Christmas present. The site was difficult to navigate, but I finally found the item. The site gave no information pertaining to the availability of any items, which would turn out to be important later.

The next day (Dec 15th) I received an email stating that the product was out of stock until January, and if I would like to switch to a less expensive smaller version of the same thing (puzzle caddy). I replied (that day) that I would take the smaller item, figuring that this meant that the smaller caddy would actually be in stock and that I would receive the item soon. In reply to this all I got was "We have forwarded your request".

I then received no reply until I emailed them twice (waiting a couple days in between) on January 6th (long after the time that I needed the item), at which point they told me they would be getting in some of both types of the item I wanted "today", and that "It will be well worth the wait" (which seemed a very rude response in my opinion, especially since the event I had ordered it for had already past). I was obviously very annoyed but I figured I would go ahead and get the large caddy since they would be getting it in at the same time as the other anyway. I got no response to my email asking to switch back to the large size.

I finally recieved an email saying the product was shipped on the 12th of January, and the item arrived the 17th (over a MONTH after I'd ordered the item and a 3 weeks after I needed it). I really wonder now why they'd offer the smaller one if it wouldn't be available till the same time as the larger one? They could have just said that neither would be available instead of making me think I might actually get it within a decent amount of time. They also offered no apology or anything for the long wait. I certainly won't come to this site again and will recommend others to stay away (which is why I'm posting this review, as a warning).
