"I ordered an Xbox 360 game from nothingbutsoftware.com; the game was listed as new, but I received a used game. It was in a game case from the original Xbox, and had no security seals. At least one other person in a game deals forum has reported a similar experience with this seller. The game was cheap, so I'm not going to bother trying to return it, but I won't buy anything from them in the future."

"I purchased an inexpensive clock radio ($12.54)which has an "alarm set" that will not let you turn it off on weekends. The "Off" button does not work. In order to get a replacement I have to pay for shipping it back. I paid $6.95 to have it shipped to me. If I ship it back, I will have paid more for shipping than for the cost of the item, and they may not "accept" my complaint. "

"I found a pair of Andis dog clippers on this site at a very good price and originally placed the order prior to Christmas. I received the box damaged on Christmas eve and checked inside to see the clipper box damaged as well. Upon testing the clippers, I found the switch was bad/quirky. I contacted the Andis company who told me to contact nothingbutsoftware and soon received an RMA# to return the defective set. Unfortunately, at the time, they didn't have any more in stock, but soon got some in and the exchange was made. On this occasion, the box arrived in perfect condition and the new clippers worked fine. I originally had my doubts in getting the problem rectified, but customer service was truly outstanding. I received communication by phone and email and was promptly issued a partial credit for shipping the defective item back (since it was free shipping to me to begin with). I would not hesitate in doing business with this company again. Thank you."

"If you live in Alaska, be wary about ordering from this online store. Even if you enter your zip code early in the process and it returns a reasonable shipping cost, the shipping cost will change to something much higher at the last step of the process. However, I immediately called the company (after hours so got their voice mail) and sent their customer service department an e-mail. Just shortly after the start of their business hours, I received an e-mail notifying me that my order had been cancelled per my request. Despite the "flaw" in their ordering system, I appreciate their prompt fix."

"Very surprising find. Great (aggressive) pricing and a very deep selection of software. I had a damaged software title that the damage was hidden, not noticable at first glance. A couple weeks later (after a vacation) I got around to installing it and it didn't work. Customer service was very accommodating, especially since I had already cut off the Proof Of Purchase tab for a rebate. We found a solution that worked for all parties and they have earned a customer that will definately return! If they were to expand their product mix, they could give Newegg a run for my favorite. It will take a couple more trials before I am willing to say that Nothingbutsoftware is in that league, but they have jumped out to an impressive start!"

"Good store, good prices. I have ordered many times with not a single negative experience. Customer support was MUCH better than I expected considering they are a "discount" type store. "I ordered two games at Nothingbutsoftware.com on August 19, 2008. I chose the 'standard' shipping method, and recieved both games on August 26, 2008. The games arrived well-packaged and in excellent condition.

"Their order authentication/fraud protection process consisted of forcing me (the cardholder) to call during business hours and state my name and order number. They asked for no further info to verify that I was who i said I was.

This offered no real protection from fraud. A person committing fraud could easily call in and claim to be me. Such a process serves only to inconvenience the customer and potentially delay an order. In my opinion, they should either drop the verification process entirely or make it meaningful.

The CSR I spoke with was unaccommodating and slightly rude.

They automatically started sending me their sales newsletter without my request or permission. Most sites use a checkbox during the ordering process to allow the user to opt out.

On a positive note, the item shipped on the day the order was placed and arrived undamaged.

"I am HIGHLY impressed with this store. I placed an order for two items and when they went to process it two things happened: 1) the identified that I was ordering a game and a business utility and shipping them to a business address and 2) the shipping address was different from billing.

Because of this they called me directly to 1) confirm the order and 2) confirm the credit card holder information!

Talk about working to eliminate fraud! I applaud their efforts!

"Software only order.
Arrived in about a week,even though it was shipped via their FREE shipping method.
[Note about shipping options at checkout: I bought systemsuite 7, which entitled the order to free shipping. The order form defaults to a PAID mode for S&H, about a 7.00 S&H choice. I had to click on the drop down menu myself; then select the FREE shipping option. I think that if you buy anything entitling you to FREE shipping, the checkout should default to FREE SHIPPING]
