Seller - If a buyer returns your item damaged, Chairish shafts you

"I sold an antique table in absolutely perfect condition. Chairish took their sweet time in shipping it. Then the buyer decided it was the wrong size (DESPITE the fact that the measurements are clearly given in the listing). Chairish said that the buyer could return it. That took over another 2+ months. The table was off the market for nearly 5 months. When the table finally got back to me, it was scratched all to #e!! -- I mean it is completely unmarketable. It will cost as much to get the table refinished as it could then be sold for -- because it no longer has its original finish and patina! Chairish will do nothing. They claim that my photos don't prove that the damage was done before the sale. They treat sellers like dirt. What can you do? They have you over a barrel, and they know it. There are few platforms for selling vintage furniture. They just don't care as long as they are pulling in the big commissions and shipping profits."

"What you're seeing is what you get don't expect much they kind of really want customer service to be uneducated because if they're unable to answer your questions maybe you stop calling?

Guise, you are virtual antiquing there is no certification of authenticity anywhere on the website and half of this stuff is a knockoff you're better off thrifting

I had a great experience. Minus the shipping

"Like many reseller sites like craigslist, facebook and offerup, it depends on the person selling each item to be forthright. I personally got a great deal with 2 expensive and discontinued lamps that usually go for $300+ each and I got 2 for $150 in good condition. I lowballed their offer of $230 and in less than a few hours they accepted $150 for 2. I just got them in the mail after a week of purchasing them and I couldn't be happier.

The shipping was $80 which wasn't great but they are heavy lamps. This is my first time shopping at Chairish, but I'm glad I did it despite all of the negative reviews here. I am a real person, not that you could tell from a comment but I'm very happy with everything.

TERRIBLE----DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!!!

"They stated in the title ---- 1950s Sterling Silver Butter Dish
I bought it---and on inspection---found out it is silver plated (BIG difference)!
I called to return---they said they would but they would charge me shipping to me (which I already paid) and shipping to the seller.
($50) total---Are you kidding me?!
They sell to you but make you deal with the seller to return.....it's a terrible situation because since the product is coming from the seller the product is NEVER inspected by Charish. Charish has no idea (other than pictures from the seller) what shape the product is and they don't ship---the seller does---so it could be shipped to the wrong address/state, etc.
DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!!!!

Buyer beware!

"I’m so disappointed with this company. Despite many negative reviews, I gave them a shot and am highly disappointed. First and foremost their customer service is the worst I’ve ever experienced, it’s almost impossible to get in touch with them or get a response. I ordered 4 caracole dinning chairs in showroom condition. The photos listed proved they were in practically perfect shape. Weeks after I ordered, sandy bottom shipping called me to set up a delivery. The day before the delivery I was informed their truck broke down and they were attempting to fix the truck or rent a uhaul. The next morning I followed up with them as I didn’t get a follow up. The woman told me they would be on their way the next morning. When they arrived I instructed them to leave the 4 chairs in the garage. My home is newly renovated and I was waiting on a rug to come before I put my table and chairs in the dinning room. The shippers dropped the chairs, took a photo and left. Myself, my sister, and friend went to bring the chairs inside and noticed the one chair in the far corner had several damages on it. I reached out to Chairish several times with no response. When I finally got ahold of someone I was told the shipper made terrible false claims about the delivery. He claimed I damage the chairs brining them in. I told Chairish I have video footage from my security system to prove he’s lying. They don’t care!"

Seller Beware

"I sold a bed through Chairish. Pickup was easy but delivery to buyer was horrendous. Many reroutes and delays. Part of the bed was lost and the buyer also reported that there was additional damage to the piece that they suspect occurred during transport. Chairish apparently investigated the issue and wants to send back an incomplete and damaged product. Mind you, not even a word on the results of the investigation. I have used Chairish before without issue, but can say that their customer services is dismal when it comes to problems. And since you never know when a problem might occur, don't bother with them. "

Buyer Beware: 48 Hour Return Policy!

"After nearly 40 years of marriage, we decided to redo our master bedroom. We picked out 3 pillows from Chairish that looked perfect online to go with other pillows we were purchasing from other companies. Once all of the pillows arrived about 5 days days later, we discovered that the Chairish pillows looked very different in person than they did online. So, they absolutely didn't work the way we expected. When we went to return them, we discovered that Chairish has a 48 hour return policy. We've bought many items from Wayfair, Amazon, Houzz, Ballard and Pottery Barn and NO other company has such a punitive return policy. We will NEVER buy from Chairish again. Buyers Beware!!"

"I have been working with Chairish for over 3 years, both as a buyer and as a seller. My review will break down my experience in both roles.
As a seller, I have been treated very well. Keeping in mind that I am just an ordinary home-owner who is trying to de-clutter and get ready for a move to a smaller place, I list less than 25 items, all priced at a very low cost. I've sold probably 18 items, from large to small. I've enjoyed my interactions with the buyers and it has all gone smoothly. I generally like to pack and ship my things myself, as I am good at it and want the item to arrive in good shape. I have used the white glove service and it is expensive for the buyer. For me, it has meant holding on to a piece of furniture much longer than I would have liked. I get no feedback from the buyer about the condition upon delivery and just hope that it is fine. As far as payment, I have not really had to nag for a payment. The only thing that is a little annoying is that they are constantly urging you to lower your price until you feel like it might be a garage sale! The only other annoying fact is that because I am a low budget seller, all my items end up on the last possible page-I think they really do cater to big dealers and give them some sort of special treatment.
As a buyer, I am not happy. Another reviewer mentioned the confusing website and I have to agree. Hard to find what you are looking for. You have to wade through many, many displays of things you are not interested in and then get so frustrated that you stop. The other annoying thing is the enormous number of mediocre paintings they list, as well as used carpets that I can't imagine buying. I used to go to the site for 'new arrivals' for my area, San Diego, and there were pages and pages and pages of horrible art-much of it repetitive. How many Iris Apfels portraits do you want to look at? If they would clean that up, it would make it much easier.
IN conclusion, I am glad there is a site like Chairish and I will probably continue to sell through them. Local consignment shops take 50% of your price and may or may not treat your things well.

They sold my $1,300 DWR designer sofa for $100. When I tired to stop the sale they did not repond.

"They sold my $1,300 DWR designer sofa bed for $100 by mistake. When I tried to stop the sale and return the item the manager never returned my call despite being told they are aware of the problem and will contact shortly. Week later they deliver the sofa to the buyer against my wishes and send me a cheque for $70. I had paid $6,000 for the sofa.
These people are unprofessional and unethical.

IF you are not one the chosen ones...

"f you are not of the elite to sell and with a company that sells on 1stdibs, you will not be allowed to sell on this site. I have been selling since 2013 and all they EVER do is deny anything I list, even thought their are items just like what I am selling in style and name brand. I was told that even though they allow those items for other sellers, it's only those sellers who are well known. THIS IS YET ANOTHER 1STDIBS. Does not matter I have vintage Chanel, Vendome, Lanvin, Canovas, Armani jewelry and more, it doesn't matter that I have fine jewelry to sell vintage from the 60s/70s, they basically told me I was not good enough. I removed all my Paul Evans furniture and mid century items too. IF they don't need my business to sell then that is fine by me. I will go back to Etsy. What a racket. And nasty rude too. IF you have noticed they DO NOT ALLOW YOU TO LEAVE A REVIEW UNLESS YOU BUY SOMETHING ON THEIR WEBSITE. There is no where really for sellers to leave reviews. In addition, when you DO sell on there, you will never see your money, it's a joke."

They don't protect their buyers

" purchase a china cabinet through Charish

1. The seller forget to mention that the china cabinet was missing its glass shelves. This is like selling a bike without it's wheels

2. The seller also did not mention that the china cabinet was lit and that one of the lights did not work

This item was a local pick up. The seller called for code verification before the item was picked up. Don't ever release the code before picking the item. Doing so allows the seller to receive the money before you have properly inspected it. The item was picked up as it was hours drive going there and two hours coming back.

Now I am the mercy of the seller to refund part of the money so I can fix this china cabinet and make it functional.

I can return the item but it is too big and the seller no longer lives there. This has been my worst buying experience.

Charish is NOT helpful. They want me to provide the proof of cost to the seller. This is not right. The burden of proof should not fall on me.

Buyer beware. Webseller

"Photos don’t always tell the entire story I’ve made 7 purchases through Chairish. 3 items (couch, coffee table and painting) were in poor condition. Painting frame broken and amateurish. $ 1,700 garbage sofa, 1,000 rusted junk Jansen coffee table. Chairish collects your money and charges enourmous service fees. Seller photos may adjusted misleading. Donated coffee table, painting went in the trash! hope goodwill will take sofa that cost $2,000 with Chairish added fees.

Unacceptable

"I wish I had read the reviews before using their services. First, it took them 7 weeks to deliver the $4,000 couch I ordered. Then the power cord was lost during shipping since it is a modern recliner, the couch is not usable without the ability to unfold it. I contacted Chairish 3 times, and they refused to escalate to a supervisor as the guy who was handling my claim went silent. The last rep I talked to started yelling at me over the phone. I have honestly never seen this before. Small Claim Court they go."

Dishonest listings, ridiculously short return window, few rights for buyers

"I bought an antique ceramic serving piece (a set, cover with plate) that was described as having “no imperfections.” The listing photos showed no chips or other damage. The item I received had a large and darkened (very old) chip on the underside of the plate. I’m not sure how that did not show in the photos. We’re they retouched? Did the seller have more than one set? The return window is just 48 hours for Chairish, and because of issues with the delivery I was not able to open the box and inspect the item within that time. So I am stuck with this damaged item that does not match the description or the photos in the listing. You’d think there would be an exception to the 48-hour-return rule when an item was sold by deceit, right? I will never buy from Chairish again. I’m going to try to deal with this through my payment service, which has a customer guarantee."

Site search engine

"Chairish's site search engine is awful. No matter how specific you are with the item description in the search bar, hundreds of non - related items show up that you have to try and wade through to find what you are looking for. Example: I typed in mid century modern dining chairs, and every dining chair on their site showed up. Exasperating."
