"Placed order,and was asked to call to verify my credit card. Called 11/18 and was subjected to sales pitch for xtra add on's. Also was asked about extended warranty. I insisted that I did not need any of it. They promptly said that my order would be shipped in 7-10 days and hung up. As of 12/12 I had not heard anything and was beginning to get wise to their scam. I again called for tracking and was told that the order had not shipped. I asked if I could cancel the order and they did so on the spot.[As they hoped I would do in the first place.] Let this be a lesson to all who would approach them."

"On 12/3/03 Patrick Martin at Cameratopia took an order from me over the phone. I ordered the attached list of items.

I only wanted the camera but Patrick talked me into ordering a SD 128 Mb memory card and battery charger. I knew I needed memory and a battery charger but did not originally plan on buying it from Cameratopia. Patrick guaranteed me several times, I would not find the memory and charger at a lower price. He even took off a large amount off their regular price, I’m assuming, to make it look like I was getting a good deal (see invoice). I told him I would check to make sure he was right. After receiving the order, I then comparing the prices of the memory and charger. I found them at substantially lower prices. It was clear I had been lied to. I called Cameratopia and they were willing to take only $50 off the combined price of memory and the charger. This is still not a fair price price. I declined the offer and told them I would return the memory and charger for a full refund. They agreed except with a 15% restocking fee. I do not agree with this fee based on the fact that I was lied to. This is very unethical behavior in my opinion.

"I went to this site because my father in law said he got his camera from there and got it cheap, and with no trouble. So I went ahead and put in the order. After the order they tell you they will call you, or you can call them, for 'security' of your credit card, to verify the order. Great, I think this is a good idea. The issue was they only want you to call them to "hard sell" you accessories. After the salesman tried a hard sell, even going so far as telling me if I get accessories elsewhere they may not be compatible, I told him I just want my camera. As soon as I got off the phone all I could feel was anxiety. I went right to yahoo! and searched for consumer reviews (should have dont that first, I know, but like I said, I was going on the word of my father in law). I found this site, and a few others. I was astonished, and mortified. I pretty much figured out that if you do not buy thier accessories, they do not ship your camera, whether they have it in stock or not. If you compare, thier accessories are on avg. 2x that of other retailers, often even more. This is where they scam you. The first thing a company does when they have an item is to bill your credit card. After 5 days I had not been charged (it was supposed to ship in 2 days). I called on my lunch hour and cancelled it. I said "I want to cancel my order", gave the girl my order #, and she said "ok". 'OK'!!! Any company that cares at all for customers asks you WHY you want to cancel, so they can fix the problem for future customers. They do not care. I went to a physical retailer in town and paid $130 more for it than I woudl through them. If I had ordered accessories though it woudl have cost me MORE in the long-run. By the way, my father in law that got his camera no troubles... he got accessories. Stay away from this company. I am filing a BBB report on them as well. They should be shut down!"

"ORDER AT YOUR OWN RISK! Better yet, just don't order. Placed my order, had to call to "confirm" it (so I could be persuaded that I needed to purchase more overpriced stuff). I was told the camera I wanted was "in stock" & would ship in 24-48 hours. LIAR! I'm sure that since I didn't want any of the overpriced accessories, the order was never going to ship. When I called back 1 week later, I was told they were waiting for the camera to come in...about 1-2 weeks. LIAR! I promptly cancelled my order. Stay away from these bottom-feeders! "

"Excellent experience from order to delivery. I was skeptical after reading some of the reviews posted on this site, mostly negative experiences. I had nothing of the sort. Cameratopia's site was extremely user friendly and presented with zero hassel. The verification process was without hassel also, although I did have to call and verify my order. No hard sell, although I did purchase additional items not at the urging of my sales representative. Tracked my order throughout on UPS tracking site. Order arrived on time and intact, complete and surpassed my expectations. Everything present, unopened, packaged professionally, and in excellent working order. I will be a repeat customer. I recommend Cameratopia. My experience excellent."

"I ordered a Sony TRV33 camera On Oct 22, 2003 after confirming by phone that it was in stock. I declined their offer to purchace any accessories. I called again 5 days later to check the status of my order. Patrick said it had been back ordered and Sony would drop ship it directly to me in 10 to 14 days. I called again today (Nov 5) and was told my camera had not come in yet and to call again in 10 to 14 days. I cancelled my order.

"DO NOT BUY FROM CAMERTOPIA!!! They screwed me around on my purchase too many times to count. First I had to put up with the accessory hard sell, then it was the "will ship in a day or two," which changed to "will ship next Tuessday," and finally after multiple calls were not returned on Tuesday & Wednesday to get the tracking information, I received an auto e-mail letting me know it had been backordered. Called them and was informed the camera could be in a day or two or five weeks. Thanks for nothing! DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY!!!"

"Quoted price for a canon 10D the website stated that unit was in stock I ordered it and was told it's on back order. I waited 3 weeks, nothing, no calls nothing I started reading problems people have been having with them and I decided to call and reorder, I did and not only did I order the camera but I ordered 1200 dollars worth of accessories too. well before I gave them my credit card number I asked if I could get this shipped over night the sales men said yes and I asked why I could but the order I placed 3 weeks ago hasn't shipped he asked what order I explained I had lied and wasn't going to order anything other then my original order and demanded to know why I had been lied to he didn't say anything and patched me threw to his supervisor he was angry with me for lying to them and I mentioned I was still waiting for my camera well he told me there might be a shipment coming in and hung up. "

"Same old story for me. I purchased from them before reading about all the negative comments. I ordered an Olympus c-5050 for $459 and I couldn't believe the price, considering Costco sells the same camera for $649. After the order, they required that I call them so that they can offer me accessories. All of their accessories costs at least three times what you would pay at any respectable retail outlet. After I declined, they said they woudl send me an email whenthe item has shipped. After five days, I called again and they said the item was out of stock. I asked how long it would take and they said at least 2 weeks! I said that I needed it within three weeks and asked if they thought it would be in by then. He said, "I'll cancel right away, sir." I said, "Huh? I didn't tell you to cancel yet." He again said, "I'll cancel you right away" and proceeded to cancel the order and hang up on me. To be honest, I felt like I shouldn't give my business to a company that consistently upsets it's customers. My word of advice, don't buy from a copany that has really low camera prices, but then charges triple for accessories. That should be a giveaway that they have shady practices."

"Ordered Canon G3 just before 4th of July in hopes of getting camera before Hawaii vacation in early August. Received automatic backorder email estimating delivery in 3-5 weeks. No camera received before or after August vacation. Called mid August, order confirmed and delivery fulfillment promised August 28. No evidence of order processing on August 28 or thereafter and telephone voice ominously indicated "closed for business" on August 29, 31. "

"I purchased a camcorder at a fantastic price that was listed as in stock in the add and also recommended to call for availability. I was told that camcorder was in stock. I placed the order and paid. The company states that merchandise will be shipped in 24 - 48 hours of charging credit card. I was then given a statement on web site that I must call to verify order which I did. I was told during the call that the item should ship in about two weeks if they were in stock. I questioned them and was told that they would not charge my credit card until the item arrived and that they would ship within the 48 hours of charging credit card. Their website states that if items are out of stock they will notify you immediately and several other falacies that are obvious after the order is placed. These folks are dishonest and although they have the best prices they are still do not seem to want to deliver the merchandise. I have been waiting for over two weeks and still do not have my camcorder."

"STAY AWAY!! This company treats the people like garbage -trash.I decided to cancel it, because i hate when some SOB representative such one named Patrick are rude and do not respect customer. I called to inquire about my order and also to ak for 3 day shpping. They told me that takes 10 to 14 business days. A serious business will offer quality of shipping, customer care , but those rats do not care nothing.
I would rather pay a little bit more in best buy or other well known store and not later rregreting or crying.
And the very satisfied customer here and just BULL. They are fake. simply fake. Glad I found this place to express opinions and not everything they say are true, always trying to sell you more . BAD PRACTICES, MALTREAT, AND I HOPE THEY GET SUED AND TURN DOWN THAT STINKY BUSINESS.

"I was on the market for a Canon G3 and found 10 or so sites including Cameratopia that it for below $500.00. I was a little concerned about the price since it was so low. So I attempted to call Cameratopia to confirm that it was factor seal and included everything. I got a message machine stating they were closed for the holiday. I thought this was odd since I was unaware of a holiday. I later found out it was a Jewish holiday.

So I called the following site, Prices4less, Stop4Camera, ExpressCameras, and a few others to get a message that they would return next week after the holiday. The message was from the same person for all the companies. Ok, so I can buy that all these sites are the same company running sites under different names to get more exposure.

So I was at the soda machine at work talking to a co-worker when I IT guy started laughing when he heard Cameratopia. Of course I started picking his brain about it. I was informed that Cameratopia will delay shipments until the customer cancels it unless they purchase accessories. He continued to explain that once the order is placed someone will call you to confirm your order and attempt to sell you accessories. If you purchase accessories which are over priced on these sites the items will ship, no accessories no camera.

So being in the IT dept. he had request for few digital cameras. So he was kind enough to show me the system. He made an order on Tuesday for a camera using his personal information and mobile phone number. On Wednesday he received the call from Cameratopia to confirm the order and offer accessories. He denied all accessories, and was told the order would ship Thursday. Two weeks to the day he called Cameratopia and was told it was back ordered.

So, he placed the second order for the same camera under my name and mobile number. I received the call Friday to confirm my order and offer accessories. I agree to the purchase of a extra battery and case since the company needed both accessories. I was told the order would ship Monday. I received the order on Wednesday.

To me this proved what the IT guy was saying. If the cameras were back ordered how did they ship the one with the accessories on the order?

We canceled the order that was backordered according to Cameratopia. The It guy told me that the company uses Cameratopia and the other sites mentioned above from time to time if they need at least three accessories at the same time. If accessories are not needed they avoid these sites like the plague.

Hope this helps others in their decisions to buy from Cameratopia.

"I ordered an Olympus C-4000 digital camera on May, 24, 2003. I shortly received an email that it was delayed 3-5 weeks. After waiting about 8 weeks I telephoned and was assured that the merchandise would be shipped but no approximate time was given. After waiting almost three months, I emailed asking for an estimated time and got no answer. I then emailed to cancel my order and got no answer to that one either. It seems this is not a professional operation"
