"This is the fifth ~$500 order I've placed with bitinstant. Out of five, this is the third order to get "lost" where they've taken the money that was supposed to be transferred but failed to credit the account it was supposed to be transferred to.
Fortunately I was able to get the first two 'lost' transactions manually processed by their support staff. But that took two days and because of that I lost out on a potentially substantial gain.
I was hoping after those failed transactions they had fixed whatever problems were causing it, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case. And I now again stand to lose a fair amount of profit due to errors on their part.
Support has not yet contacted me regarding the last failed transaction, though I've attempted contacting them twice.
I doubt I'll be making use of their services again unless they make some major changes, and as it stands right now, I wouldn't recommend their services. A 40% success rate isn't a very good sign, especially for the type of service Bitinstant is supposed to provide."

"I could not recommend bitinstant service to anyone. I placed an order with them almost a week ago and never received anything. They willingly took my money and all attempts at customer service have resulted in e-mails stating it will be addressed in one business day. It seems to me they are nothing more than a scam site. "I have used BitInstant multiple times and the last 2 I have been very uneasy because my money doesnt arrive into my account then it takes a day or so which totally defeats my purpose of using BitInstant. If I cant purchase what I want when I want especially now more than ever because of a limited sale. My money is tied up at the moment and if it goes like last time I wont have my money at least until tomorrow when the sale is over. Then what good does that do me if the reason I used it was for the sale. Then my money got tied up for a day and I missed the sale. That does me no good. "Amateurish. Granted, they are pretty much the only game in town.

Don't expect to receive your funds "instantly" or anywhere close. The website makes no effort to help you get things right or warn you of pitfalls.

As far as I know I did everything right, the funds were withdrawn from my account but I received no bitcoins, just a message "Order failed - please contact ****@****".

They expect me to contact them to get it fixed. They apparently don't monitor their own system.

In summary, don't expect bitinstant to take your money as seriously as a bank would. It's risky. But since there is little alternative you wouldn't be crazy for trying them anyway. Just know the risk.

It remains to be seen whether bitinstant fixes my order. In order to receive a good review from me they will have to waive their 2% fee for my trouble.

Edit - I did get a reply within a few hours, and they did complete the transaction. They did not refund any fees however, and the exchange rate went up significantly before the transaction completed.

"I have been very happy with BitInstant's services. Crossing the divide so to speak, they have provided a nice bridge for me to purchase Bitcoins. Access and confirmation(s) from the services I have tried so far (direct deposit cash to straight to Bit address and MoneyGram to Mt.Gox) have never taken longer than five minutes from the time of deposit. The one issue I had so far was a question of available services(cash deposits at banks showed up on one website but not another) The auto generated order was correct but I was still wondering...so gave them a call. Despite a 3hr time difference my call was handled swiftly after being routed through G voice. I have had zero complaints so far...Keep it up! "

"If something goes wrong, don't expect an immediate result from their support. Their forms have no error detection and provide no mercy for the average person. While most companies--even Wal-Mart--try to solve most issues within the day, these people will take three days and beyond to get your money to you with no sense of urgency, sympathy or value for your business.

They should be embarassed of their customer support and the little value they place over people's time and money.

I've seen government bureaus treat people better than this. Don't rely on BitInstant for anything essential. They won't be there for you.

As I wrote this, I still haven't got my money. They claim it processed when they probably mistook it for the next order I had to rush through with the form completed correctly. This goes to show their logistics are likely a mess.
