"So long as you understand in which direction to turn a wrench - what an allen key is (and the difference between a 4 mil and 5 mil - and also concepts like wheel truing and derailleur tuning, you will love these deals. I got a Fuji Nevada from this company, for at least $100 less than what my local dealer can provide. Out of the box the bike is straight from China (like all are) so be prepared for minor adjustments. But considering the mass production of these bikes, the quality is quite amazing. I had a slight bit of wheel truing to do - nothing serious - that's about it. The derailleur needs tuning to be perfect, but is very close to correct spec straight out of the box. If you have some minimal mechanical ability, a little patience, and want to save a few squid, highly recommended! "

"Don't believe all the fake reviews. When the bike arrived, there not one, but two components that were bad. Rather than apologize and offer replacements, I was pointed to videos on how to repair these parts. It took a month of fighting before they finally replaced the bent components. Recently, I had a bike shop and an independent repair professional try to remove one of the tires, as I could not (and I’m fairly experienced with this). One pro couldn’t get if off at all. The shop said the fit was “ridiculously” tight, and it was “absurd” to expect a consumer to be able to do this on the trail. This is a safety hazard as you could be miles out a trail with a flat. Larry from Bikes Direct response was that he mounted 100’s of these. Good for you Larry, but two professional bike people who I took these tires to had difficulties. One could not remove it without damaging the tire. Larry offered me a tire “at cost”, but the “deal” he offered me was exactly the same as I could buy it brand new on the web. Since this fiasco, I purchased a second bike from another online retailer and it was much better and customer service was much better. However, if you like to argue, fight, and fix a brand new bike, Bikes Direct is for you."

"I just purchased and received my second bike from bikesdirect.com, a nicely-equipped Gravity aluminum hybrid (flat bar/triple chainring) road bike for my wife. My first purchase (last year) was a Motobecane titanium-frame 29'er, which was a real steal. The titanium frame was so impressive that I ended up upgrading almost all the components and selling the original components on eBay. I did a lot of comparison shopping online before making these purchases, and feel confident that there simply is no better deal out there for higher-quality bikes. Both of these arrived in flawless condition, but here's the deal- the bike you receive is in the same state as would be received by your local bike shop. So the assembly and set-up are your responsibility. If you are confident you can do this, or know somebody that knows how to properly set up a bike, you'll save a lot of money. If that's not you, then you should buy from your local bike shop. "

"Bought in 2006 a Fantom Comp. in 5 years I put on over 12,000 Colorado singletrack and road miles. I had a spinal cord compression injury in 2011...it has taken 6 years to become active enough to return riding that bike - I can fly again- I added a 4" stem lift, and a 780/53mm handlebar to give me more of an upright geometry...which has helped the thoracic area a ton! Turns out, the 29" bikes are built in a more upright geometry I discovered in the local bike shop that was sizing me for a recumbant. I was in the market for that recumbent spring 2018. "For buying something that needs to fit very well the return policy is horrible. It costs $50 to ship it back and if it's not in the original box (which is impossible) it costs 10% of the bike cost, which can really add up for a $300-$500 bike. To make matter worse the height ranges are not accurate. I bought a bike that said the height range was guaranteed up to 5 ft 5 inches and it was too small for my 5 ft 3 inch girlfriend. The guarantee means nothing and I was out $100 and the work of putting the bike together and then taking it apart and shipping it. Nightmare experience. "

"I purchased a Motobecane Super Strada for $999. I received the Super Strada with a carbon fork. The fork had a carbon weave that looked horrible on one side as if the weave had been pushed around before or during the final clear coat process. I contacted customer service but no help there. First response is it is normal to have "slightly wavy weave." This is well beyond "slightly wavy," not uniform at all. I said again I wasn't happy and I expect better quality on a 1000 dollar bike.

The second response:
"If you would like to swap the fork for one from another bike (same model) I will for you but you will be responsible for the shipping both ways. Please send me your fork with a pre paid return shipping label and I will swap it out for you."

So I have to pay for shipping both ways to swap the fork and bikesdirect is gonna put the crappy fork on another bike and sell it to another customer. That shows how they operate and it is not acceptable.
Bikesdirect was not helpful at all in trying to resolve my issue.

The bike that I purchased is definitely of high quality value for its price range. I assembled bicycles from individual parts in my youth. My bike arrived at around 90% assembled - no dents or damage. The box that it came with did not have any damage. This is my first experience with disc brakes. It does not take much IQ to figure out the correct adjustments. I will definitely spread the good word out there about my experience. My purchase exceeded my expectation. Note on delivery: FedEx requires signature on delivery. I changed my option to pickup my package at my convenience from FedEx store nearby."
