Last minute handling fee for overpriced junk

"I purchased a a set of 3 hummingbird garden stakes, and a single heron garden stake.
I was lured back to this website by a 10% coupon.
But after a $7.99 shipping charge, I saw they tacked on another processing fee of $2.25 right before paying, and figured I would just let it go.

The set of hummingbird all had bent beaks, and are complete flimsy junk. The heron is fair in quality at most.
I'd love to send these back based on their 100% satisfaction guarantee, but the non refundable shipping costs, will be more than what I paid for these junk products

I am done with this company.

"item ordered for delivery by 12/23/14 never shipped...as per collections the order # THEY issued was not genuine...re-ordered item using promo code for free shipping and returned it for size exchange, item was in stock, collections did not ship exchanged item instead they credited my paypal account minus the handling fee and no one knew why item not shipped...reordered item on phone and collections would not honor promo price. during call i was disconnected before i completed order process which i intended to cancel but i received email that order was placed...i would never shop with collection again...too unprofessional and shady."

"I used to order items all the time from Collections Etc and then I stopped a few years ago when they stopped sending catalogs after a move. I remember when their catalogs used to say "Everything under $14.99." That price kept increasing and now they sell all price ranges.

I recently placed two orders for several Christmas gifts. Both orders shipped within two business days save for a backordered item that I knew about before placing the order. That item shipped a day before they promised and arrived in time for Christmas. The one thing I think they could do better on is the shipping confirmation. They send an email when the order ships, but you have to log into your account to get the tracking info. I wish they would include it in the email. I decided to sign up for their discount club and I've saved the cost of the membership already.

I think it goes without saying that most of the items they sell are cheaply made in China. That's how you get such low prices. The overall quality can be hit or miss. I bought a really cute salt box for my Grandma for $15. The instructions say it will hold 30 pounds of salt, but the bottom is so flimsy I'd be surprised if it holds 15 without breaking. The same item at a craft show made with quality materials would easily cost $50+. Occasionally you'll get shorted a hinge or a screw, but if you want better quality, shop somewhere else and buy American.

"I purchased three items from this store on two occasions in Fall 2010. The merchandise was not top end but good for the price. The sale prices were excellent. They sell some interesting merchandise I've not seen elsewhere. I was pleased with the shipping time and I got free shipping for a $40 order. Customers can review products on the website. I recommend reading the reviews before purchasing."

"The order was for "Trash Bag Holder" NCF3160207. The price was $12.99 plus shipping and a handling fee, so total invoice was $20.97. As I started to assemble the item, a key "T" connector literally broke in my hand.

THe packing invoice states that the customer is obligated to pay ALL shipping cost no matter the reason, even defective products. So, if I want a $12.99 refund, I now have to pay more for shipping back than the items cost. Plus I'm already out $10 for the intial shipping cost. This is a scam business practice that shifts all costs on the consumer.

If they were local I would take them to small claims court for not CLEARLY disclosing this policy. I would never deal with a company with such a policy. My advice is stay away from this company as they accept no responsibilty for the quality of products they sell.

"We placed a small order that included a holiday snowblowing/snowman wreath (#385-72-88312, "Sammy Snow Blowing Wreath)from them because in the catalogue "Collections ETC" Early Holiday 2007 edition, it said that the item operated by motion sensors. My wife and I loved the idea that it would start blowing snow, light up, and play music whenever guest arrived at the door. Well, we placed the order online by typing in the item number from the catalogue and adding to cart... paid and waited. When the item got here, we searched for the sensor, and it didn't seem to have one. So for Thanksgiving, we placed it on or door to great guest, thinking that it would work like it was supposed to. It ended up not working unless we turned the switch on and off right before people were expected to come. So that means we would run up and down the stairs, everytime someone would come over to turn the suka on. Cooking for and hosting thanksgiving was a job enough, having to worry about a wreath that was supposed to work by itself was not our idea. We wouldn't have bought it if we knew. Well, we called the company to ask if we could return it, or get compensation, a discount off a future order or something for their bait and switch act, and they ended up being totally rude. They made it seem as if it were our fault somehow. They didn't want to help, they didn't take credit, they didn't want to do a return, and when they finally agreed, they didn't want to pay shipping. We told them that if we paid shipping, then we would be paying shipping twice for a product that didn't work, and would end up paying more for shipping then the item is worth, and that it wasn't fair. They said that since the website has a "different" description then the catalogue, that it was OUR responsibility to see that they didn't include the detail of the motion sensor in the updated version. How were we supposed to know? We simply typed in the item number, added it to cart, and paid for our order. We trusted that the catalogue that they sent to our home would be accurate. The lady told us that they have a disclaimer that says that they are not responsibile for "item, discription, picture and or price inaccuracies" well, if thats the case, why buy from them at all if what you see isn't what you get. It was totally a bait and switch move, and we will not be ordering from them ever again."

"I ordered 5 items from Collections Etc. One item was broken upon arrival. The return instructions stated that I would not be refunded for my return shipping. I returned the $9.99 item for $4.90 and then sent an email requesting why I wouldn't get a shipping refund since it was broken. The reply was why didn't I email them before returning the item. I replied that that was on the instruction sheet. The reply was as standard "If you need any more help just give us a call". I will not order from this company again."

"I ordered a gift for Halloween on 9/24, it wasn't shipped until 10/19 and didn't arrive until after Halloween. I'm very disappointed that I wasn't informed the item was out of stock, very disappointed the shipping took so long and since it was a Halloween costume gift for a friend's baby, it was useless arriving after Halloween. I do not recommend Collections Etc."

"I have ordered from Collections Etc on many occasions over the last year. I am always pleased with what I ordered and their prices are really good.

Their shipping has been good, fast and nothing has ever been broken on arrival (and I've even ordered glass and ceramic items.)

Over-all I think they are a good and affordable company to get nice items for the home.
