"Super service - live in Denmark and was going to US. Send email to know if the product (Garmin Forerunner 405) was in stock and expected deliverytime. Answer within 24 H - super. Ordre and then there was a problem with my creditcard. Fast reply from the shop and they received a new one. The package was received one day before what I was told.

"Excellent customer service- a portion of my order was missing from the inital shipment. When I notified the store, they sent out a replacement that same day, no quesitons asked! Both shipments were processed quickly and arrived on time."

"I was quite happy with the service until I actually received my order.

Among other things I ordered a Knog Frog light twin pack. The rear light of the twin pack was missing from the delivered package. The outside packaging seemed intact, so it was unlikely that the light dropped out in transit.

On July 5, I sent an email to AE Bike noting the problem, and requesting a replacement. No response.

On July 11, I sent another email. Still no response.

So, in summary, I'm out of a light, and shall avoid AE Bike in the future.

Live and learn.

Update (2008/07/19):
On 07/15 I received an email offering a replacement or credit on my card. I chose credit, and it was noted on my account today.

All is right with the world, though I would have much preferred to have the original light.

"It's always a bit daunting purchasing overseas from a dealer you have not previously dealt with before. The transaction was extremely satisfying with all aspects of the purchase and shipping being confirmed via emails and all arriving in the time expected and as described.
I found the web site very user friendly and uncluttered which is nice change. There product info was good with good quality large photos of almost every product.
Just brilliant and will use again .

"HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE AT ALFRED E. BIKE:
On June 10th I dropped my bike off to have 2 new tubes and a new chain put on. The owner said that it would be 2-3 days to be completed. A week later I had not received a call so I called them. They said it was not done, but that it was next in line and should be done that day or the next. Another week went by with no call so I went in to see what was wrong. Once again they said my bike was not done, but it was "next in line." I told them in a calm voice that I wanted my bike back because a two day wait turned into a two week wait and it did not appear that they appreciated my business.
No sooner did I finish asking for my bike back did the owner grab my bike, take it outside, drop it on the sidewalk, toss my tires/rims on top of my bike and walk right back inside. He never said a word to me, not even an apology. I then had to lug my bike, 2 tubes, 2 tires, 2 rims four or five blocks with no assistance from Alfred E. Bike.
This was the worst experience I have ever had at a business and I will never be back. I am still confused why he would treat me this way, but it may have something to do with the fact that I put a cost limit on the work they were going to do on my bike. I told them not to exceed a certain amount because the bike was older. When I said that the owner started to get rude right away. I should have taken my bike right then and there.

Update, I took my bike to Custer Cyclery in Augusta and they had it done in a 1/2 hour. They were friendly, they were professional, and they didn't care that I was only spending $50. This place is worth a little drive if you are in Kzoo, Battle Creek, or that general area. Anything is better than Alfreds.

"These guys are honest and have good prices. Plus, unlike other internet vendors they have an actual phone number (to the local bike shop they are based from) where a real person can take care of you if you have a problem. I got a bad set of brake levers in one order from them, I gave them a call, and they made things right. They shipped out a new set of brake levers right away. Most of the items you order from them ship from a warehouse, so it can take a little while to get your stuff, but their low prices and good customer service make using them worth the wait - for me at least. I will definitely keep shopping for my bike stuff here whenever the local store doesn't have something or when they are way overpriced. Again they are good - just don't expect your stuff to arrive in a few days - it normally takes 2-3 business days to process your order and then another 2-7 business days for it to arrive via ground mail."
