"Ace hardware superstore has no business being in business! I placed an order on 4/8/12 and received email saying one of the items was not in stock and order was cancelled. I reordered minus the item that was out of stock and added a few basic paint supplies and again received email that 3 of these basic items was not in stock and if I want remainder of order I've to pay an additional $79.99 above the $17.36 in shipping charges. My order was small, weighed about 6lbs and totaled $52.59. What's worse I only live a few hrs from their store. There were other problems as well but you get the idea. Very unscrupulous!"

"Worst online experience ever. Order a Braun Fan on Feb 17, Paid 203.67 plus 18.50 in postage. On Feb 21, they sent me an email stating I owed them an additional 19.99 for shipping. They claimed they didn't know at time of order what the shipping would be. So much for believing anything printed on their website"

Special item orders come out of a warehouse that does not ship directly to customer. In order to fulfill this order we are going to request this item be shipped to our warehouse direct and then to you the customer. This process will cost you an additional fee of $29.99. Again sorry for the inconvenience we will not process your order until you contact us directly with confirmation of your credit card number.

I would rate the a ZERO ... feel bad for their order center as they just answer the phones.... But money is tight and getting ripped off is NOT a way to keep a loyal customer.
43.37 shipping on a 37.92 light weight order is a SCAM.

"Ordered a product that that is advertised for less then the local ACE.
After two E-Mails and two phone calls and one month of waiting(did i mention the 37 min. on hold) I was told my order could not be shipped !!!!!!!!!!! Then why is it on line? they had no problem chargeing me a shipping fee.
They STINK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! STAY AWAY !!!!!!!!!!!!

"I want to be fair to the people at this company. I know that many of these ratings give a very poor reflection of the company - and in some cases the company deserves it - but I'd like to state that my experience was in fact very pleasant.

I'd like to say that the company has a very bad website. I believe their online system approximates the shipping inaccurately, which is why everyone is unhappy with it. I called the company instead of placing my order online in order to find out there and then if I should pay more for shipping instead of finding things out a week later.

They did make me pay a little more than what the website calculated for shipping, but it was still quite cheap for the stuff I ordered. The items arrived and were in good condition, except that of the 40 lightbulbs I ordered, 1 came shattered and 1 came dead.


I had a very tight deadline...it was for a theater production and I had only something like one or two days of leeway. The folks at the company entertained my incessant phone calls and - at least verbally - processed my order in an expedited manner. I received my order on the "earliest estimated date", which was a great relief.

"Awful customer service. After placing the order and paying shipping costs, I received an email 7 days later stating I had to pay an additional $29.99 for shipping. I was annoyed then, but paid it. I received an invoice but never got a tracking number. 5 days later I call asking about a tracking number, the asian lady said "she no have one, package already shipped." Another 5 days pass, and I call again, get put on hold for 10 minutes, then hung on but same asian lady. I call back being told that the problem is with UPS, and I should call them. Ace Hardware left off my apartment number that was clearly listed in the confirmation email from the package. I now have to drive 45 miles roundtrip to the distribution center to pick up my package. Great customer service! Highly recommend this company to everyone."

"I ordered a Weber grill from this store that was priced at $177.34 + $33.76 shipping. Two hours later I get an email saying that my order will require an additional $89.99 to ship to me. I immediately canceled my order and will never do business with this store again. Classic bait and switch."

"I ordered four items - all of which were listed as being in stock - from this company on 10/24/11. One day later,I received an email stating that two of the items were not in stock and asking if I wanted to complete the rest of the order. This was after they charged my CC for the full amount of the order. I continued with the remaining two items. The first item was shipped about 3 days later and arrived without incident. The remaining items had not shipped after 8 days, so I called for a status. I was told the item was a special order and they had just received it themselves and that I should be receiving it by the end of the week. Well, one week later, I finally have the item. They must have shipped by osmosis, as the entire delivery process took 9 days to travel 600 miles. I could have driven there and back faster.

During this whole process communication was nonexistent. I had to specifically ask - twice - for a refund of the cost of the items which were not in stock when I placed the order and that took more than a week to be refunded. I agree completely with another reviewer in that they need to get out of the Internet sales business. They are one of the worst retailers I've ever used and I would never use them again, even if it costs me more money.

"Would give zero stars if I could. Ordered a case of pool toys (cost: $33.28 plus $16.18 shipping). They e-mailed me the next day to indicate that it would cost an additional $59.99 to ship the case of toys. Outrageous! When I called to ask why they couldn't honor the price they advertised, they said that the case of toys is large and bulky, and cost extra. Um, shouldn't they know the dimensions and weight of the items they sell? Shouldn't they be able to accurately estimate the shipping cost at the time of the order like any other reputable web seller? When I pointed this out to the customer service rep, she had nothing to say. I canceled my order and will order through Amazon -- which offers free shipping -- once my refund is finally processed. What a waste of my time! This company needs to get its act together."

"Ordered a product on 1/14/2012 that cost $33.28 and was quoted $19.53 for shipping. Received a confirmaiton email for the order on 1/15/2012. Received another email on 1/16/2012 demanding another $9.99 for shipping because the product was "oversized". Called "Customer Service" and spoke with a very rude young woman who continually insisted that I pay another $9.99 before they would ship my product. I asked to speak with a manager and was put on hold for 10 minutes. The Customer Service rep came back on and said that the manager was in a meeting and asked if there was anything she could do. I explained that I wanted her to waive the $9.99 fee and ship my product. She refused and I again demanded to speak with a manager. A manager finally came on, ruder than the CS rep, and refused to do anything useful. I told her to cancel the order, but also informed her that I would file a complaint with the BBB. She said that would be fine and hung up.

"I selected a list of items and the shipping seemed a bit high but the order had a lot of items so I ordered anyway. I got an email the next day with a list of item numbers that were not available. More than half my order was unavailable! When I asked for a new invoice with an updated shipping quote it took 11 days and several emails to get the updated invoice and the shipping cost the same as it had been for the original order (now almost as much as the items cost.) My credit card was charged an extra $63 beyond the total on my emailed receipt. I cancelled the order and I'll look somewhere else."

"The absolute worst on line shopping experience I've ever had. Other than confirming my order and debiting my credit card, I have not heard a word from them. I know the item I ordered will not arrive by Christmas. In fact, I have no idea when it will arrive. I tried to talk to someone in management and was told they were gone for the holidays. Complete losers. Don't order from them. "
