"I too had the unfortunate opportunity to do business with this company. I was researching the Sony HDR-SR8 100GB HDD HD Camcorder, and found it at 1WayPhoto.com for $869. I added it to my cart, went through the ordering process, and on the very last click of the mouse had my order display for the HDR-SR7 for the same amount of money. The order had been tracking with the SR8 throughout the previous steps in the process. No big deal I figure, $869 for the SR7 is still a good bargain.

When I was written this morning to get my CVV2 code for my card, I mentioned this ordering snafu and was answered with "that did not happen, and you are not going to get an SR8 for $869". I checked this morning and the SR8 was showing for $1069. I wasn't even angry, I was trying to alert them to the mix-up, and the whole time the person on the other end of the phone was being defensive and telling me to just cancel my order. I didn't, but apparently I shoook him off his game enough that I didn't get the upsell routine.

After reading the posts here, I did send them the following email:

"Please acknowledge confirmation of order 20626-WO for a NEW, unopened, Sony HDR-SR7 60GB HDD HD camcorder, before a charge is made to my credit card. Shipping is to be standard ground shipping, stated as free during order placement, with no tax. Total of order is $869.00, charged to MasterCard ending in ****.

I need this acknowledgement to authorize the charge with the Credit Card company. I was told it would not be honored, until I received written acknowledgement of the order details, as listed above.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter."

Needless to say, in about in hour my item was unavoidably back-ordered, and my order cancelled.

BTW, I had to pay $330.99 more for the camcorder at Amazon ($1199.99 versus $869.00), got the deluxe twin battry charger with LCD readout for $128.99 (1WayPhoto wanted $199 for the rapid charger, single battery charger-a crappy substitute for the amazon offering), the 10-hour battery for $106.13 (instead of the $219.99 wanted by 1WayPhoto), and the Full to mini 5' HDMI cable for $31.21 at amazon (1WayPhoto doesn't even appear to offer this on their site). So, I spent $1,482.28 with Amazon, and got the cable that 1WayPhoto doesn't even have; and would have spent a total of $1287.99. If add the $31.21 for the unavailable cable (and we all know it would be more; but just to keep it fair) to this it becomes $1319.20. When I subtract what I spent at Amazon by this amount, the difference is $163.08, about half of the $330.99 I would have saved buying just the camcorder from 1WayPhoto, and got to choose what I wanted to accesorize with, using my own judgement and no pressure. I'm almost certain that between the "free shipping" and insurance cost they would have hit me for more than the $163.08 I could have saved.

Oh, BTW, the camcorder I got from Amazon is fully waranteed by Sony here in the US; that's gotta be worth something...

And did I mention that the price at Amazon included One-Day Shipping? I placed the order today, I get the product tomorrow, with all the accessories. I already have tracking numbers!!!

"ok, my experience with one way photo was actually pretty good... but I now realize it could have gone very bad. I have been looking for a new lens for my canon rebel and found this website to have the best price. After putting in my order I received a call from a sales associate. He asked me if I wanted to add a filter and a warranty and to me he wasn't pushy about it. When I declined, he never insisted agin. However when he asked me what camera I was going to use the lens with he told me that the lens I ordered was for film cameras and it wouldn't work with my digital SLR. He said that there was a digital one similar to it for only $50 more. I asked him if he could just cancel the order because I wanted to clear the increased price with my husband and I didn't want to buy anything without doing any research on that item. So he cancelled the order and was quite polite about it actually. Now after reading the reviews I am thinking maybe he was trying to just upgrade me and if I would have said yes it could have been a pain in the neck for me. I am so happy that I found this site as I will steer clear of one way photo in the future. I always do so much research about any big purchases and now I will make sure to research the retailer as well!! I used Amazon to buy my lens and still at a good price and I am expecting it tomorrow. I figure it's better to go with a name you trust than a company you've never heard of before even if it does look cheaper. "

"I wish I would have come across resellerratings.com sooner. What I did find was ShopCartUSA.com & I believed the ratings they provided for 1 Way Photo. Now I think the two of them are in bed with each other because my bad review has never appeared on the ShopCartUSA.com website. Or maybe the two are one in the same. I am embarrassed that I was taken by these unscrupulous Brooklynites. 1 Way Photo uses bait & switch tactics. After you place an order online they send you an email stating you have to call them. This is where they use strong arm tactics to sell you more items at outrageous prices. If you say no thank you, you will be told your item is out of stock. That should have been a red flag for me. I wanted my camera & lens so I agreed to by the SD card for $149. When my package arrived I was shocked when I saw a $90 fee for S&H Insurance. I was supposed to get free ground shipping. When I called to question the charge, I was treated very rudely. I decided I didn't want to do business with a company that insults their customers. I asked for a RMA # so I could send everything back. James said I was stupid because along with camera, lens, etc. that I was returning, I had to send them a Cashiers Check for $360. $90 of it was to reimburse them for the Insurance fee and the rest was a 15% re-stocking fee. Very high price to pay but worth it in order to shed these crooks. I will be watching my credit card bill to make sure they credit me for the return.( which I insured to the max and added Delivery Confirmation). Lesson learned: the cheapest price is not the best way to go. If you think it sounds too good to be true....it probably is. "

"I have to agree with all the previous comments. I saw other various review sites giving them a good rating, but I never came across this site till after the fact. I, too, am a victim of the bait and switch tactic. The salesman blatantly lied to me over the phone and I didn't catch on to his comments until later that night when I did further research. Typical comments: Do you want to upgrade to a magnesium body versus the plastic one you're ordering? (note: camera is only made in one version by Canon). Do you want to upgrade to metal mounting brackets on the lens instead of the plastic ones on the lens you ordered? (note: all Canon L series lenses are only made with metal mounting brackets). Also, the free shipping wasn't (even though the salesman said it was) and they never provided the "free" items included in the order and listed on their website.

I am also filing a complaint with the BBB, Brooklyn DA, the FBI's online fraud listing, and challenging the credit card charge. If nothing else, it'll be a pain for them to make good on their offers before they get paid.

"I have been screwed twice by these morons at 1 way photo. They try all types of unethical tactics and other misleading tactics to get over on their customers. On my last order, it had been 5 days after I had to call them to confirm my order that I hadn't received a tracking number for. So when I called to get a tracking number, their customer service said that I hadn't confirmed it yet; Which is a big lie because when I called to confirm it, they tried to sell me all kinds of accessories and other merchandise.

After explaining to the CS representive that I did indeed confirm my order he claimed that their computer doesn't show it and that since I am showing an attitude that he can cancel my order if I want. He then started to tell me that if I am going to start bitching at him that he is going to cancel my order. Before I could get another word out of my mouth, the jerk had actually hang the phone up on me. (The nerve, I wish I was in the local area, I would have gone down there and banged his head against the counter.) Anyway, I called back and told customer service (same guy)"yes indeed, cancel my order." Without another word he hung the phone up again and I had to call my bank to make sure that they blocked any purchases coming in from OneWay Photo.

Their name is right, 1 way, they take your order and nothing comes back the other way to you. I hate this place, the are the absolute worst vendor I have EVER dealth with. NEVER AGAIN!

"1Wayphoto is a complete rip off. I bought a camera (canon 30d) with the entry level package. The sale guy told me the lenses that came with the package came with a metal connect. What I got was a cheap plastic lenses. The camera itself seems fine and legit. I purchase the package deal and it was never shipped with all the items. Shipping took forever and they charge me like $47 for it. The package deal came with a tripod, i had probably called over 100 phone call to the customer service to finally get it and when I got it it was a cheap tripod. Also the camera I got suppose to come with a camera strap. Guess what I'm still waiting on them to ship that me. It's been 4 months. Yes 4 long months. I should have shopped with Newegg! Newegg have the best prices . Period. Great customer service and not a rip off like 1wayphoto. Like their name... 1way. Never going back to them ever. I'm also canceling the credit card that I used with them. The Better Business Bureau need to look into the company. Everyone one of their customer service reps have a thick Brooklyn thug accent. If they want to be in the mafia they need not work in customer service. I doubt I'll ever gonna get my camera strap. All their response have been "it's on back-order, it'll take 8-12 weeks" is my last response from them. Don't throw your hard earn money on them. "

"Do not buy from this company. Classic "bait and switch" scam. I ordered a Nikon speedlight on-line. A salesman from 1 Way Photo called to "confirm" the order and asked why I did not order the "better" speedlight. When I said I did not know about the other speedlight he touted it as better than the Nikon; said the manufacturer of that speedlight manufactured the Nikon speedlight, etc., etc. I ordered the other speedlight. It was a hunk of junk. When I called repeatedly during normal business hours and get a Returned Merchandise Authorization per their instructions, their customer service department was "closed". I am disputing the charge and asking VISA to stop aiding and abetting these crooks."

"STAY WAY FROM ONE WAY PHOTO!

This company practices “bait and switch” of their prices and products.

You will find if you choose to do business with “One Way Photo” is that you will experience that same pain and frustration knowing that you were scammed by these people in Brooklyn New York.

I am not sure who this company or group of thieves can still be in business after one reads all the suffering they have caused people who first trusted them with their credit card and eventually their money.

Perhaps these Internet criminals know that we humans like deals and to save our hard earned money whenever we can. The folks at One Way Photo also know this and the prices on their website doesn't come close to what you will pay in the end.

My story is like many of those who came before me and got ripped-off by these people. I wanted to find the best price for a lens for my ”Canon EOS 40D” digital camera.

I found One Way Photo to have a price better than even Amazon (here is your free lesson, if the price is lower than what Amazon sells an item for, it probably will be too good to be true and I have no affiliation with Amazon, I just know I can trust them).

I thought I was paying $859.00 as advertised on their website, but when I viewed my VISA card online I noticed they had more than doubled the price to $1,377.97 a difference of $518.97 and to top it off, they shipped me a less expensive lens in the place of what I wanted and thought I was buying!

I do not fully understand how a company like this can continue to do business in today’s world or how their credit card processor continues to process their orders, but they do.

I contacted the FBI in New York City who would handle criminals like these, but they do not look at crimes under $100,000.00 so they refereed be to the Brooklyn D.A. office where we can track down the main players of this scam and put them away so they cannot take advantage of the trusting public who want to believe people are good and won’t take advantage of them.

If by some reason you choose to do business with these “dirt bags” than good luck to you and remember “buyer beware.”

"As I have read here, it seems this is a usual practice for this store. I have been highly disappointed in the service here. Knowing nothing about cameras, as I was buying this as a gift, I was completely taken. I ordered the Nikon D80 with an unusually cheap price, but when I ordered I was told I had to buy a battery (which I now know comes with the camera) a special high speed memory card, a two year warranty and I paid for overnight shipping. I never received the two year warranty and special lens that came with it, didn't even come with a box? I almost immediately called to cancel the order, because I had a terrible feeling about it $1700 later, and the guy on the phone Scott Jensen at ext 221 said that if I cancelled now I would be charged 15% restocking fee...hello, there is nothing to restock. I ordered on Tuesday but they ended up charging me for overnight but shipping two day...I didn't get it in time, so I bought another one from a retail store, paid less and got all the stuff I needed. I tried to call them the following Monday to set up a return and could not get a hold of them. I emailed three times, called twice and left messages but no return call or email. Finally I got to talk to someone almost two weeks later and he told me that I was beyond my 8 day return period and that he couldn't put a return in for me, that I would have to talk to the customer service manager, Andy at ext 221. I asked if Andy was at 221, then why did the person whom took my order say his name was Scott at 221? Flustered he replied with his name is Andy Scott...? WTF I asked what his name and extension were and he said John at 222...almost like it was scripted. I asked him where they did business and he responded with Maine, so I asked, "then why did my card get charged from Brooklyn" (not to mention their obvious accents) and he said "oh that's just where it was shipped from." Come on, I was born at night, but not last night...

Please if anyone is paying attention, do not order from this company, bad, bad, bad, business.

I have filed a complaint with the BBB in order for them to allow me to return this package, so we shall see how that goes.

"It just keeps getting worse and worse with 1WayPhoto. I had an issue with a Panasonic AG-HVX200 P2 Highdef camera. I found out that they bought the camera in Asia and shipped it to the US. Since it's an Asian market camera, it's not under US warranty. So . the camera is not covered .. and I have to pay out-of-pocket for the repair.

When i was talking to the Panasonic broadcast repair person, they said "Did you buy the camera from Brooklyn?" .. and I said yea .. and he said "Was it 1WayPhoto?" .. and I said yea .. and he got real quiet and said "you're screwed" .. we tried to stop them from doing this .. we even called them, and they said that it's perfectly legal to import and sell merchandise in the US.

That's how they get a lower price .. but you are messed up if you ever need to get it serviced.

They are such a rotten lousy company and I'm going to have to sue them to get my cost covered.

Do yourself a huge favor and never do business with this company.

"My experience with the fraud & misrepresentation (in laymen's terms, outright lies) by 1 Way Photo's staff are similar to many of the posters on this site. Like many of them, I wish I had known about resellerratings.com before I allowed myself to become entangled in their web of deceit. I am posting now because my purchase was 9/2/07, and I am just now discovering the full extent of their misrepresentations. It doesn't look like 1 Way Photo will change their way of doing business, so I want to add current information concerning their practices. Yes, I should have know better. However, I believe that what they do and how they do it is criminal, in the literal sense of the word. If anyone there on the East Coast (I'm in San Diego County, CA), gets the NY District Attorney, the NY AG, or any of the federal regulatory agencies interested in pursing the principals and employees of 1 Way Photo, I will be glad to add and document the specifics of my transaction with them. My personal email adress is ****@****. "

"Oh dear. If only I'd checked the reviews first. Well, I finally got what I originally ordered for the quoted amount but this took the best part of 8 weeks. Very similar to most of the other reviews here and elsewhere. A Canon flash (Speedlite 580EX II) ordered-a phone call by my partner to the store-a "latest one is available for a special deal"-in fact a Sigma flash arrives which is returned to the company-another phone call from Scott Jenson asks me whether it is for a digital camera (yes, for the Canon 400D/Digital Rebel) "well you'll need the metal mount which is $79-99 more" - well I was suspicious but agreed but numerous calls to professional camera shops and Canon UK and USA reveal that this Speedlite only has a metal mount. Emails sent were bounced back by postmaster so I had to enter text on their web site (no, I wasn't going to call them again if I could avoid it) and after a slow exchange of many emails and web site input plus the clincher of raising a dispute with American Express and quoting a Canon US email and providing the name and contact details of the technical representative they started to climb down. Even so, calls to my partner were made and pressure exerted (such as "well, if the payment remains in dispute then we'll place this in the hands of debt collectors" even though American Express had contacted them!). They offered a store credit instead but we stuck to our guns and the amount of $79-99 was finally credited to the card.
I can confirm that I would not touch this company with a barge pole unless it was to wrap it round the head of Scott and his associates. They acted very unprofessionally, used sharp tactics and tried to bully my partner (but she was easily their equal!).

"I second Shutterbug123's comments. 1 way photo did the exact same thing to me, only I stupidly bought into it and ordered the Sigma lens (although they very carefully skirted the issue that it was not in fact a Canon lens). To return a lens to them you pay a 15% restocking fee, I was very excited to finally be able to afford a nice lens and at this point I have no lens and have $150 less dollars. When I tried to call and ask them to refund the 15% fee because I felt like I had been treated unfairly the "supervisor" who never identified himself by name he told me (very rudely) they would turn it over to a collections agency and "they'd get my money one way or another". Every time I confronted them about their misleading and untrye information about the Canon lens they would say in that rude used car salesman voice "don't you want a superior lens?, I don't see why you wouldn't want a superior lens?" I am currently trying to find out any recourse I might have against them. I want to stop them from doing this to other consumers who fall into their 'Bait and Switch' trap. Here's another "Up Your's" to 1 way photo!!!"

"Wow, and here I thought I just just a silly Midwesterner. I wish I had found this website before my purchases.

Overall, I guess I was lucky. I own a Canon Rebel XT. I called 1 Way to order a Canon lens and did have the Sigma bait and switch pulled on me. However, the Sigma lens I purchased is superior to the Canon lens I had planned on ordering for the same price as the low end Canon lens I was going to purchase.

The same thing happened when I purchased my flash. I had originally planned on ordering a Canon Speedlite 580EXII. The salesman asked me, "Why are you not ordering the digital flash?" We went back and forth on why I would order a Sigma flash opposed to a Canon flash and eventually I chose the Sigma. I was charged the same price for the Sigma flash as the Canon flash, although it usually sells for more elsewhere. The only difference is I did pay a nominal shipping charge of $15.00 (the Canon was free delivery).

I do feel fortunate because in talking with other camera stores, I have been reassured that I have purchased reputable and reliable accessories for my camera. And, in both cases, I have purchased these products for the price I had expected to pay.

However, the tactics used in the other reviews were used on me. When I questioned the salesperson, I was made to feel like an uneducated consumer, although I had done all the research beforehand.

After reading these reviews, and seeing the great similarities in my own purchase experiences with 1 Way, I would have to agree that there is something odd about this store and buyer beware.

"I sure am glad I caught this one.
We ordered the Canon 70-200mm IS USM. It was listed at their site for approx. $400.00 less than anywhere else.

Like others, I also recieved the e-mail to call and confirm. They then asked (and recieved) the ccv number from my credit card. The man then starts telling me that Canon has just released their "newest model" of this lens and that instead of loosing f/stops as you zoom as you would with the older version, you would be able to shoot at f 2.8 all the time due to the "new improved" digital technology features.

I am no digital wiz, as I am really just learning to convert from old film, and am not clear on how the digital aspect plays into photography, however this still just did not sound right. I repeated this aloud to my husband, and we said ok, well if it is made by Canon. The man said ok, so this will only be an added $80.00.

I told the man, well I dont usually purchase any lens before reading reviews on it, and usually at least taking a look at them at some of the local stores, are there any reviews? His response was "No, its brand new" I said "well ok then, I guess its probably ok"
The man then began to repeat the order to me. He spoke VERY FAST, he said "So we are updating this to the Sigma Canon 70-200mm new improved lens correct?"
I said "What, what did you say about Sigma?"
He said "Well Sigma makes all of Canon's lens"
I said " Uh.. I dont think so, Is it on Canon's website?" He actually said "Yes" I said..
"You better hold off on anything until I find it on Canon's website, I will give you the benifit of the doubt, however I was there yesterday, and I sure dont remember anything about Sigma on Canon's website." "Dont do anything until I call you back."
Can you believe he even offered to send me a link!!! I went to Canon, and just as I already knew, it was not there. As a matter of fact, with a quick google, it says Canon will not even support Sigma, Tameron or other lens. DUH...
I called back, and told the person who answered the phone, I wanted to cancel my order, because they were trying to sell me a Sigma and call it a Canon, he said well Sigma does make Canon's lens, I said yeah, but your guy said it was on Canon's site, he said, no, he told you wrong, it is on Sigma's site, I said - well I was not trying to order a "Sigma" lens, and if I had wanted a Sigma lens, I would have purchased the "Sigma" lens for $739.00 not $1459.00.
He said very hatefully and almost yelling "fine, we will cancel your order."
I said (just as hatefully) "GOOD, IT IS BEST YOU DO THAT" Then of course, they hung up on me.

We then called our credit card company and cancelled, this sucks as we have auto billing on almost everything, just one more hassel to deal with because of these d--k heads.

I then did a quick search, and came across this page. I "personally" am going to post about them on every camera, photo, blog, and forum I can find that has to do with camera, photography, or lens. I am going to include a link to this website page so everyone can see that it is always the same game with these jerks. (Bait and Switch)

I think they suck, this was to be my anniversary gift. I would have been so dissapointed if I had stuck to the Canon, only to recieve the constant e-mails that it was on back order, then probably miss taking it to Borneo with me, which is the trip the lens is being purchased for.
They not only steal from people, they destroy plans and crush dreams. This is clearly their intent if they cannot force you to purchase the "cheap" knockoff lens they they are trying to hard sell you. Then they just try to make life suck for people.

1wayphoto - UP YOURS!!!!!

I am not knocking Sigma lenses, but I sure dont want to pay Canon prices for a Sigma lens.
Canon is Canon, Sigma is Sigma.. they need to stop lying to customers!
