Scammer alert and Tradera did nothing to protect buyers

"I joined Tradera in August 2022 as a buyer and have got scammed twice since then, am I just unlucky, or is Tradera not safe at all?

The first time, I was a bit doubtful because the seller was new and did not have any reviews and the item was quite expensive so I added the buyer protection in the payment and 'luckily' I got refund. Turned out the seller was a scammer.

The second time, the seller had the profile up for 10 years with only good reviews and nothing seemed suspicious. I made the payment via Tradera and did not add the buyer protection. Then the person turned out to be a scammer and nearly 50 buyers got scammed (based on their negative reviews later on). I reported 'item not received' and didn't get any feedback, then I had to queue for more than 30 minutes to be able to chat with a customer staff, only to know that they would never refund just because I didn't buy the 'buyer protection'. What a ridiculous regulation! So this means that even when you get scammed on a supposed-to-be-safe website, you will never get your money back just because you don't buy protection!?

Buyer protection should only be for defective items, not as described items, issues with delivery, etc. NOT for when you got scammed and never receive the items! I don't bid and buy items on Tradera to be worried and insecure all the time, feels like I'm on a lottery scheme. This also means that the Tradera system is not safe, they do not have a good mechanism to verify a seller's profile with the correct name, ID, BankID, or even bank account.

And when I asked what would happen to the seller and about 50 buyers who got scammed, they replied that they took down the profile. So no criminal report to the police? no emails to all those buyers? no nothing? I cannot accept this irresponsibility. Then this makes no difference to Blocket or Facebook marketplace when buyers have to face similar scammer risks.

Last but not least, Tradera, if you want to make "buyer protection" primary/compulsory, communicate it better on your website, stating very clearly that you cannot manage to keep all buyers safe from scammers.

I am working with my bank and reporting this to the police to get my money back (more than 4600 SEK) and to raise this issue so Tradera has to find a much better solution to make them a safe site.

And I will never ever use Tradera again.

The company have over the years shifted to work in the darker corners of the market

"I have nothing bad to say about the users (buyers/sellers), most of them (9/10) are really nice and professional. The company (Tradera) on the other hand.....OMG!

Once the buyers have paid it can take months to get your money and Tradera with lie right in your face about the reasons, they have no shame.

It's is definitely not the same company as 10 years ago.

Beware, they do not hesitate in sending you false invoices and hoping you will pay due to scare tactics.

Handla/sälj inte här längre, det är inte längre samma företag som tidigare. Människorna som säljer/köper där är OK eller till och med bra men Tradera som företag har en helt annat mentalitet nu.

De skickar bluff-fakturor och betalar ibland inte ut pengarna som man sålt för.

Jag kommer aldrig använda tradera igen. De är idag likgiltiga med Nigeria-breven för mig.

I agreed to work with him and use my PayPal account. This account now has a deficit of US $ XXXXXX.ZZ. Mr O'Rourke has stolen this money and does not respond to my emails or any inquiries. I would like to know the truth and get my balance to be $0000000. asap.
I never shipped or received any merchandize. My bank account was used for transfer of funds.

"I have both been selling and buying things on Tradera for some years now. Until now I´ve had very few problems. It is very easy to be tricked if you aren´t careful. I always buy from high rated and experienced sellers, based on their reviews and ratings. If your item never gets shipped or if you don´t get payd after an auction, Tradera won´t help you that much. However, they can report the seller to the police or after some trouble caused they can shut down your account. It´s not hard to create a new one. You mostly lose your rating and reviews. You can fake auctions, but you have to pay a minimum price of 3 kr (ca 0.5 $)"
