Corporate Greed ...Rectified!

"On 1/2/2016 I purchased a one way ticket from Southwest Airlines for a flight from Orlando, FL to Rochester, NY on 1/27/2016. The plan was to drive from NY to FL with my cousin,(reconnecting with family after 9 years since my last from Alaska where I live now) and then fly back to NY. Well a major and epic winter storm crippled the entire east coast going inland as far as KY, TN and many other states. Several states were in 'state of emergency' status with entire road systems completely shut down. The weather conditions did NOT warrant safe travel and on 1/23/2016 I cancelled my flight with Southwest Airlines. Considering the magnitude of this storm and circumstances I requested a refund of $118.98 which was the cost of the flight. I am currently back home in Alaska and have been so for about 3 weeks and the closest airport is about 130 miles away and difficult to get to because the city in which the airport is located has NO road to it and Southwest Airlines does NOT do business there. The other option for an airport is 800 miles away. Therefore the ticket is completely useless to me for future use. Yet another valid point for a proper refund. On 3/15/2016 I received a phone call from a very polite, understanding and professional Southwest Airlines representative denying my request for refund. The decision was made by personal of greater authority than her.
Taking into consideration the facts of this situation...
the decision NOT to refund the $118.98 to me is NOT right and completely unfair and unjust.
Hence the title "Corporate Greed"!

Update 4/3/2016
Southwest Airlines has decided to refund the full amount of the flight and I am so very grateful and appreciative for this action. Thank you.

Southwest Airlines = horrible customer service and THIEVES!

"I booked a flight in June 2014 for September. Less than a month later my husband told me he was in a wedding then so I had to cancel our tickets. I received a refund in 'travel funds' that expired 1 year from when I purchased the tickets (June 3). Within this timeframe I became pregnant (and very sick), and we bought property/started to build a house. I wanted to use our travel funds on a trip for us prior to my delivery, so in May 2015 I booked a flight for June 2015. I, however, was told I could not use my travel funds because they expired on June 3. So if I purchase tickets prior to June 3 it should be fine right? NO! I have to travel by June 3, which was not possible in our current situation and quite stupid since the original travel dates booked were in September. I tried to gift the funds to my husband but that didn't work either, ONLY the funds in his name could be applied to his trip. I was livid because basically there was no way to utilize the travel funds at this point and the customer service was HORRIBLE. I contacted Southwest via the 1-800 number and was told there was nothing they could do for me, that I'd have to call Customer Relations. I tried multiple times to contact Customer Relations only to get a busy signal for 2 full days (had called >20 times). When I finally got ahold of someone, after a 15 minute hold and navigating to a special line for 'expired travel funds', I was told (by a manager) the date of June 3 was a 'hard date' and there was nothing they could do for me. I was also told they are not allowed to transfer travel funds. The reasoning for both was based on a policy by an official Federal Department, which I find VERY hard to believe! The time I want to travel is 3 weeks after 6/3.The fact that they could not figure out a way to accommodate that is beyond nonsense. Yes it was only $200 for two round trip tickets (hence the impromptu purchase), but that is $200 that was basically stole from me that could have been very useful in our future home and baby. The part that is the worst business move for Southwest, is I would be paying more money to them in the long run if they were to allow me to use my travel funds to buy much more expensive tickets through them. Instead, they lost a customer, that flight purchase, and a credit line. "

"Worst experience I've ever had with an airline. The person that helped us was screamed at us and was very unprofessional when my sister and I asked questions about our delayed flight. My luggage was damaged and wasn't covered for and some contents in my bag were broken. The flight was scary. I understand that turbulence is something that can't be controlled but the ride was soo rough my water, that was in a cup holder, fell all over my lap. I am soo glad I survived this dreadful experience."

"If you want to get totally screwed over then feel free to fly this joke of an airline. My daughters were competing in the National Health Occupational Students of America (HOSA)Competition in Orland, Florida, and the awards ceremony was this evening (6/28/14) at 8:00 p.m. est. My wife scheduled an 8:30 a.m. flight 3 months ago to make sure to be there for the ceremony. Right after the passengers boarded the 8:30 a.m. flight, my wife heard the pilot tell a mechanic "you are not understanding me, I am not flying this plane!" The pilot announced to the passenges that there was a problem with the plane, stating that these planes can have a lot of miles put on them and this one was "really old." The passengers deplaned, and were told that SW was working on getting another plane, a direct flight. Keep in mind that Dallas, where my wife was flying from, is SW's hub, and they had planes leaving for Orlando every 30 to 60 minutes. There was no direct flight offered, and after being told they would be leaving at 5 different times, SW finally decided to bump the 3:00 p.m. flight for the 8:30 a.m. passengers. My wife totally broke down finally realizing she would not get to Orlando in time for the HOSA awards ceremony. She was comforted by a pilot and stewardess, who told her she had every right to be upset, that SW had totally mishandled the whole situation, and then when the passengers finally got on the plane the pilot again apologized for the way SW handled things. For all my wife's troubles, she was given a measley $200 voucher - like we would ever fly SW again. Oh, and my daughters won 1st Place, but my wife was not there to see it. She could have drove from Dallas to Orlando faster than SW got her there."

"If you want cheap airfares and 2-FREE bags this is the airline to go. I fly with Southwest from time to time. Not my favorite airline but I still like them. Website is easy to use, no problems so far either. Never really had to interact with Customer Service."

"What more can you ask for? Usually the cheapest rates, free snacks/drinks, tons of self-check in kiosks, free two checked in bags (amazing) and nice 737s with experienced pilots/co-pilots. Nothing but praise everytime I fly on Southwest. Sure there's no assigned seating, but I'm ok with that...at least you get a boarding group #. "
