The progress of the so-called “healthcare reform” bill in the Senate this week continued

"The progress of the so-called “healthcare reform” bill in the Senate this week continued to create concerns about its potential impact on the nation’s budget and the ability of the federal government to invest in our nation’s future. This week, it was revealed that the cost of the health care reform legislation will exceed $1 trillion over the next decade, and add $816 billion to the federal deficit, according to the Congressional Budget Office. The health care reform bill is becoming a source of revenue for the finance and banking industry as well. On Tuesday, the Senate Finance Committee released a bill that would significantly alter the financial regulation structure that Congress enacted after the financial crisis of 2008. It will give"

most investors believe

"Investors typically earn a rate of return of 3% a year when they buy a U.S. Treasury bond, regardless of where in the yield curve they are purchasing. Anywhere in the yield curve is still a good long-term buy for retirement accounts and savings accounts. For most investors, this seems like an excellent investment. But for most retirees or near-retirees, the rate of return is lower. And because most investors believe that the primary threat to retirement savings is inflation, the primary risk for inflation is a financial market meltdown. The markets are the ones that need to earn the most money to ensure that their retirement accounts will last for decades. The most recent financial crisis of 2008 has caused some economists and academics to rethink"

Excellent

"It seems strange to find results regarding profitability and finance, given that the recent finance conference in San Francisco was all about money. And how finance and marketing can earn more money. But that’s what Princeton researchers, surveying 718 investors with $10,000 worth of retirement savings, discovered. What they found was that investors seem more inclined to use analytical tools in their investing strategies than finance professionals are. And in the process, that saves some people a lot of money. According to research by Michael J. Ayers, Kathleen M. Bennett and Travis K. Williams: “Sixty-nine percent of the investors we surveyed admitted that they use analytical tools to help them make"

it’s still

"But if interest rates increase, a difference in pricing between products could drive financial professionals to pay attention to their client’s risk profile. For example, if your home mortgage interest rate is 3.75 percent, when you bought your house, then at the end of six years, you would have earned $6,750, but if rates were at 6.25 percent, you would have made about $9,500 in interest on your mortgage. That would take you from a 3.75 percent interest rate to a 6.25 percent interest rate. Would you earn a higher profit if your house payment were $3,000 a month and you made $5,000 a month in extra cash? That’s a big leap in pricing. But that’s not what the customer is paying, obviously. And of course, it’s still"

So, if analytics is just looking for relationships and patterns

"So, if analytics is just looking for relationships and patterns, how do they make money? The answer is that analytics is a big revenue generator. For example, it would be hard to find a doctor in the United States who hasn't been aided by an analytical report on a patient with many blood clots. We all make decisions, such as about when to move to the next town or continue working in the job we love, based on whatever analytics report is available on the subject. In this way, analytics make some people very rich. I'd say, statistically speaking, that people should expect to be financially compensated if they're using analytics. At the least, we all should see the benefits of a more intelligent society. Considering the exciting breakthroughs made in quantitative analysis over the past decade, I am sometimes saddened to see the battle being fought over the details of who owns the data. Sadly, the fight boils down to issues of personal choice. Each individual researcher is making"

I'm finding it increasingly difficult to find work, based on my experience

"I'm finding it increasingly difficult to find work, based on my experience. I have the desire, skills and knowledge and am prepared to work hard and put in the effort. Unfortunately, finance as a career is not one of those, so it is hard to hold out and go after a traditional academic career. I have enrolled on an analytics research program and am getting lots of analytical feedback from clients who are getting a lot of good work from analytical work they are getting done with their own software and techniques. My analyses have come back highly rated by clients, earning more than twice the analyst's rate. I know I have good analytical skills and the intelligence to succeed in the job market, so what is the problem? I

Credit reporting agency

"Credit reporting agency Equifax did not collect and store sensitive information about Social Security numbers, income information, mortgage payments and other financial information belonging to Americans, according to a new report by the New York Times. Instead, Equifax collects and monitors financial transactions and usage for financial companies and brokerages, including financial institutions that underwrite mortgages, market securities and report income. It then earns a small fee in exchange, the report said. In the wake of the massive hack that impacted 145 million consumers, Equifax says it's found "technical anomalies" that occurred within its systems in March, but Equifax disputed any wrongdoing. "The company notified relevant state and federal agencies, as well as consumers and members of Congress," Equifax said in a statement. Consumers continue to complain about a problem that Equifax claims to have corrected. "I called Equifax customer service to ask if I could put a freeze on my credit file to prevent scammers from taking out loans and credit cards with my credit," Jessica Morris, a financial planner in the Kansas City area, wrote on a company forum. "After an hour on the phone and wasting my morning and afternoon, the rep asked me if I wanted to simply sign up for free credit monitoring through Equifax. Now, that is either a joke or they are letting the bad guys take over the credit bureau that is meant to protect my financial security." Investors may not know about the problem until the two sides meet next week to renegotiate their credit-reporting contract, the report said. A check of the Twitter feed of Equifax's media representatives showed they were discussing the possibility of a new deal. Equifax will appear before a congressional committee next week, the report said. Copyright 2017 WDRB Media. All rights reserved."

Recognition of the importance

"Recognition of the importance of protecting financial data has also come from countries within Europe, where the data protection laws are being significantly revised, including in the UK. Policymakers across the continent have stated they are interested in the results of the work under way by the EU Data Protection Board. The EC and the UK, for instance, are keen to see whether there is a potential to restructure regulation to provide a clearer overview of the various regulatory approaches and possibly even make an analytic model of them all. Whether that’s possible under current legislation is the real question, though there are clear signs of an ideological disagreement. In the UK the government is pushing for the ability to use"

Edit 1/17/2014: Added official page

"Edit 1/17/2014: Added official page, including stock values, for Akamai as of 1/15/2014. Edit 1/21/2014: Added salary information and description for Qlik. Edit 1/25/2014: Added an update to my summary of Akamai, showing an updated financial chart for 2013, noting a substantially lower stock price than I previously posted. My summary continues here. I’m always excited to find an opportunity to recommend two stocks in the same sector to investors, as such opportunities are typically much easier to buy and sell, especially after a period of falling prices. Since I started investing in finance stocks three years ago, I’ve recommended both the growth and value styles, and both have performed well over the past three years, generally outperforming most financial markets. My recommendation for the growth style was HSBC Holdings (NYSE: HSBC ) a little over three years ago, and shares have risen by about 54% in that time. Shares have fallen by about 20% since early September, when HSBC"

Ask Finance: How much should I save each month

"Ask Finance: How much should I save each month? How much should I save each month to get a decent retirement plan? One solution is to put a little money into a retirement account every month. The amount you invest matters a lot, but perhaps more important is your time horizon. If you plan to retire in 40 years and put away $5,000 per year for that time, you'll have $640,000 for retirement. According to a 2014 analysis by insurance consultant David Blanchett, of retirement account savings for a hypothetical 40-year-old, investing in taxable bonds with a 6% interest rate would generate an average of $3.45 per $100 invested. The overall figure varies depending on the return of the bonds you purchase, but if you were"

pittance by companies

"How do you become a great research analyst? The big truth here is that you don’t. The industry standard is a 48-month tenure for a finance analyst position, if you’re lucky, you can maintain this tenure for the remainder of your career. You don’t build a great career by excelling as a research analyst – you do it by earning money. If you can make money, you have a chance at earning a fair amount of respect and making a huge profit. We already know that many analysts are paid a pittance by companies that use them as a marketing tool. I’ve taken research analysis courses over the years and I’ve made tens, hundreds of thousands of dollars working for hedge funds. The only difference is that I also earn a salary. My ability to perform well and"
