"Our experience at Rack and Road was fantastic. I live in Bellevue and went to the Bellevue store. The parts I needed were not at that location, but they were at the location in Seattle on Hwy 99. The sales agent in Bellevue called the agent in Seattle, held the parts for me, and the team in Seattle was very helpful in completing the sale.
We needed this rack for a driving vacation we were literally going on the next day, and the team at Rack and Road made the stressful process doable.

"Went to the Rack N Road Sacramento (Arden) location to see about replacing a stolen rack off my VW Bug. I was really concerned about a new one being stolen as well!
John stepped in to help when the first sales associate wasn't able to answer my questions. In just a few minutes I had print outs and costs for a couple of rack options, specially made to go on VW Bugs. John also went over all of the different safety features on each rack to put my mind at ease.
I came back 2 weeks later and ordered my new Thule Rack which was installed by Chris. The customer service at this store was awesome...will be a customer for life ;-)"

I know that the "others" have become the standard but I feel sorry for those who accept loud highway wind noise and bulky looking racks vs. the Whispbar. "I rented a cargo box from the Costa Mesa store for the 4th of July weekend. At first the clerk was extremely helpful and polite in assisting me to arrange the rental. He described to me the options and took the time to answer all my questions. Once decided on the appropriate box, I walked outside to watch as the clerk and another chap installed the unit onto the roof of my Lexus RX350 SUV. This was my first experience with a cargo box, so I relied on the folks at R n R to install it properly. After the box was positioned, they verified there was "adequate" clearance between the box and the hatch door of the trunk. I noticed a limited amount of space from the open back door and the edge of the cargo box when the door was in the open position but the clerk assured me this was fine and was not an issue. They locked the cargo box into position and I was on my way.
Days later, after driving a distance and camping, I noticed the cargo box had shifted toward the rear of the car. Every time I opened the trunk door, the back edge of the cargo box would scratch the gel coat and paint of my car. I placed some sticky felt pads at the contact site to try to limit any further damage, but by then the damage was done.
When I returned to the store, I politely mentioned that although thrilled with the cargo box, there was a problem with the installation which resulted in the obvious scratches on my car door. The mechanism of this problem was clearly evident when one simply opened the back trunk door and witnessed it collide with the cargo box at the exact spot where there were scratches. The manager was immediately on the defensive, as though I was judged a criminal and my concerns invalid and offensive. There was no apology, no contrition, no managerial soft-touch to even attempt to placate me... nothing. I assume this gentleman must be a good manager of office staff, but was clearly and completely incapable of dealing with a customer service issue... in fact stunningly so. Because of his attitude, I became even more inflamed.
Long story short, after some obstinate bickering from the corporate office, they agreed to pay for the repair, a bill that came to $200. I told R n R that if they were unable to afford this nominal amount, they should put the claim through their liability carrier for reimbursement.
Honestly, everyone makes mistakes, sh.t happens, no one was hurt and the damage minor. Yet the damage was obviously not do to my incompetence nor negligence. I did not install the cargo box and made no claims to be an "expert" on the subject. The mistake was made by their clerk who inadequately installed the unit. In the future, I recommend the management at R n R to "Man Up" and facilitate some polite, expedient and compassionate customer service. If necessary have the managers take a class in customer service. Finally, if RnR would have handled this minor issue differently, I would have continued to recommend them. In fact I would have rented or purchased from them in the future. Please train those managers!"
"Rack N Road San Rafael store is AWESOME! I own a commercial boating operation and have dealership agreements with both Yakima and Tule, and I STILL take my vehicles to Rack N Road to get outfitted. Why? Because a) they know what they're doing; b) they almost always have the right parts in stock, and if not they order them right away and have them pronto; c) they install at very reasonable rates; d) they provide friendly, professional service. In other words, it pays me to take my vehicles to Rack N Road to get my roof racks installed, even though I could order parts myself wholesale and give them to my employees to install them. I know this to be true through trial and error. I have been using this store for at least 8 years and will continue to do so. 5 STARS!"

"I came into Rack N Road in San Jose looking for some oddball parts for a nice Thule bike rack that I had picked up. The store clerk helped me find most of what I needed off the rack, but a critical part was missing. He went into the back room, and found the missing part that was salvaged off of a discarded rack, and gave it to me for free. In addition, he exchanged the lock cylinders in the off the shelf package for ones that matched my existing key set. First class customer service, and everything I needed in one place. These guys are a first rate outfit, and the only place I go for racks, trailer hitch gear and associated equipment."

I know nothing about cars, or bike racks, but after speaking with an employee named Chris he made me feel confident I was purchasing the right equipment for my husband's vehicle. "I went to Rack N Road this summer to get a surfboard rack installed on my car. They were awesome. Within the same day, I called, they had all the parts, and were able to get the roof rack installed so I could go surfing the next day. Everyone was very friendly, and I would definitely recommend them to others as well as return there myself if I ever needed new equipment. "
"I've been to the Rack N Road store in San Jose only. I've been there to install a hitch on my old Honda Accord (for a bike carrier). The installation was great and they set me up with a good bike carrier too. Years later, I upgraded to a honda pilot, and went again to have them install an aftermarket hitch. Again, they did a great job. Only thing is you end up doing 1 trip for scoping out / selecting what you need, and then you need to set up an install appointment, so multiple trips. I've also rented a skybox from them (useful when going on camping trips).
Overall, they are a great store and know their stuff well. They seem to be used to more professional people, so they can be a bit rude when you're trying to make up your mind."
