RUN from this company-unethical, liars, poorest service of any online company I've EVER dealt with!

"If I could give them negative stars rating I would I ordered (online) a modem that I thought would be compatible with Windstream, based on the photo of the modem that was with the description. Well, they shipped it to me (received a scratched, worn, obviously heavily used mode)" and I immediately realized it wouldn't be compatible. I emailed them right away and after a day heard back (email-you can't call them) from the rudest service Rep. I've ever come across. I was accused of being dumb & stupid for ordering the "wrong" modem and that I'd have to ship it back to them & wait up to 30 days for them to "possibly" return my $. Well, I sent it back, and then registered a complaint with my Chase VISA source. Well, after going back and forth (via email) with the company and VISA, they claim they never received the modem back and could not refund the charges....well, imagine that? Oh, they received it back, as I sent it Certified Mail. Long story short, Chase VISA is now believing this corrupt, cheating merchant and is leaving the charge on my statement....so, now I have TWO fights to contend with. All in all, I'm out around $70 for the crappy modem and $15 to ship it back.....with now, no resolution in sight. Disgusting...what a bunch of thieves!"

Liars and Thieves

"Own Your Modem and Buy Your Own Modem are two of the same rip-off companies run by a pathological liar and thief. They say they have great customer service but do not return phone calls nor read the FOUR emails I sent them. Stay far away from both of these companies"

READ THE REVIEWS FIRST!

"This is a disreputable company.

I am an Xfinity customer. I accepted the advertising that they had a box that was compatible with the services being provided by Xfinity. I bought the identical box from them. When I opened the box, a single page fell out. It was full of disclaimers. Xfinity worked with me to get the box up and running. However, while it worked for my internet and landline, it was NOT compatible with my TV services. So, I returned it. As with the advertising regarding the product, their representations regarding "one of the best warranties in the business" fell short. They gave me about 70% of what I paid. Their website said "return communication is carefully documented," but they did not document how they arrived at the amount they withheld.

Horrible Customer service - modem they sent broken, customer service rep rude in email, refuse to refund after modem returned

"I purchased a modem which was broken on arrival. It was completely non-functional. When I contacted the seller by email to complain their response was rude. I subsequently returned the modem by mail and they still would not refund my money. I logged a dispute with my credit card company and I am now in a billing dispute with ownyourownmodem. Do not buy from this merchant."

The modem never worked. No support. I had to pay return shipping. Still no refund

"This company is a waste of your time and effort. Do yourself a favor and believe the reviews you read. They sell broken modems and make you jump through hoops to get refunded and YOU pay shipping to return their trash. Still waiting for a refund. I had to file through PayPal just to get a response."

Unethical Business practices

"As an immediate afterthought of placing my order for a Verizon modem I googled buyyourownmodem.com. I then realized a mountain of complaints indicating this business to be a scam. The majority of complaints are that customers are receiving equipment that is either not what they ordered, is defective, or is owned by the internet provider such as Verizon or Comcast which was not returned to them. Given the absence of ant customer support phone number and the somewhat personal affront attitude of emails received, it is my guess that this is a sole proprietor business where the owner is able to source untested unreturned or abandoned equipment. That, combined with a slick website is what this business is all about. Realizing this, I immediately requested that the order be cancelled - within 5 minutes of its order. Hence, no fulfilment process was generated. After a day or so my order was cancelled. However a $10 cancelation fee was assessed against my credit card refund. As I discovered he does say so on his website but I didn't expect to be charged for this. I can understand a sort of restocking fee for a business, but in this case the order was immediately cancelled on grounds of the business reputation. Beware the predatory business behavior of buyyourownmodem.com. Only purchase a modem through a source such as Amazon or ebay where at least the seller has the accountability of buyer feedback."

Worst experience

"Bought an Arris modem from them back in Oct, after multiple calls with Comcast was not compatible that I had to return. They would not even acknowledge receipt of returned modem and unfortunately I forgot my tracking. So, far I have not received refund. I reported to credit card and consumer bureau. These people should be in jail for what they are doing, selling defective modems. They are running a scam, NOT recommended

Six Months to Get a Refund

"I bought an Arris Gateway Modem (Router/Modem Combined) since I wanted to waive my rental modem fee on Comcast. After waiting 3 months, my rental fee was still being charged. I contacted Comcast and they told me that the modem I bought from OwnYourOwnModem (OYOM) was in fact Comcast-owned.

I immediately contacted OYOM and they said they would refund my modem only if Comcast could provide documentation proof in writing. I contacted Comcast's customer service several times over 3 months and no one could provide the proof I needed. Instead I wrote to Comcast's corporate offices and they were finally able to put me in contact with an agent that could actually find the documentation proof I requested.

I submitted the proof to OYOM and in a few weeks they sent me a replacement. However, it was not the single router/modem that I purchased. Instead they shipped a separate router and modem. I found this unacceptable and instead requested a refund. I returned the Comcast-owned modem and the 2 separate router and modems to them. Before I received my refund, I wrote and received numerous emails repeatedly requesting tracking numbers and information about my original order. I was finally paid nearly a week after OYOM received my returns.

Early in this experience, I requested my invoice and order number. Customer service responded that they do not keep invoices beyond 6 months, so I never received one. To me this is a questionable business practice.

The biggest complaint with OYOM customer service is that they do not have a phone number if you have an issue. They only way to contact them is by email.

The problems I had with Comcast and OYOM took 10 months to finally resolve. OYOM did refund me for the total amount I was charged 10 months earlier. Of course, I never got compensated for the time and hassles I had to go through just to get a simple refund.

Isn't it interesting that when you get to OYOM's website, all 90 customer reviews have 5 stars???

Don't let Comcast steal $11 per month

"I have now bought 4 modems for myself and my friends and family. If you are leasing your modem, then you are wasting your money. It takes less than a year to recoup your money back from buying over leasing. What are you waiting for? Do it!"

SCAM. DO NOT BUY

"Received unboxed modem that my cable tech laughed at. He said.."I bet you got this online from ownyourownmodem"!!!!

Obviously been bought and sold a ton of times. The back port was so loose it could be pulled out. Pure junk.

Contacted the people selling this garbage out of their trunk and they were rude, denying everything and making me pay to ship it back so they can look at it. Then they disappear and don't answer anyone. I sent it back with a signature required. Otherwise goodby money.

Paypal investigated and issued an immediate refund to me. They should ban these people.

SCAM ARTIST AT WORK

"I received apiece of junk. You could tell it wasn't going to work just by all the scratches and dings. I spent an hour with centurylink in which they admitted that it was probably defective since they tried to"ping" it. This scammer has a Wisconsin telephone number which is not on site. He/she has a bogus location address. Buyyourownmodem.com, ownyourownmodem.com, dontleaseyourmodem.com are all the same person. And he is on E-Bay as Region-Supply. Very nasty attitude when it comes to returns or refunds. You will be lucky to get anything back. Dealing with this scammer isn't worth the money. If you are reading this because you were scammed, call your bank or credit card company and dispute the charges. Fraud is a crime!!! That's what this guy does. Don't believe all the 5 star reviews as I'm sure they were self written. "

Defective product and service

"I had to have Verizon come out to determine why I was not receiving the speeds I was paying for. After many tests by a supervisor on site and several NEW modems, it was determined that my original modem was defective. They explained that because the gigabit technology is still so new, this is common. Great company and service before the purchase but going through the return process is starting to become a pain. I have already reviewed the company on other sites as well so that future customers are aware of how this company operates once they have your money."

Bought a new modem but they shipped me a used modem. I contacted Arris and they said that it was used and not under warranty

"I found the site via a google search. I purchased what was represented as a new cable modem which was a tg1682g. I used a visa credit card when I made the purchase. I received the arris modem and it was clear that it was used. No retail bag or box. No retail documentation. No warranty. So I contacted Arris and they informed me that the TG1682 was never made to be sold at retail. It was only made to be sold to internet providers like Comcast. As a result even if the modem was new there would be no warranty provided. He did check the serial number of the modem and it in fact was used. So I contacted my credit card company. I had tried to call the seller several times and there was no response. Then I contacted my credit card company. They gave me the number for the web seller. The phone number is ***-***-**** which strangely enough is a Wisconsin number but the seller is in Utah. It turns out that the Wisconsin phone number is a google phone which allows you to avoid callers that you don't want to talk to . So you call the google phone and give it your name. Then the owner of own your own modem .com doesn't recognize your name or he recognizes you as the last customer that he shipped a used modem under the guise of sending a new modem. He avoids your call. So what you do is you call and identify yourself as xyx first name (make one up) and xyz last name ( make a second one up) from mnop credit card company calling to discuss a customer attempting to dispute a charge and he will pick up the phone.

The address on the package that I received was:

Ownyourownmodem LLC
105 S State St #224
Orem, UT 84058

By the way my box was full of packages and return addresses of other people who had been scammed by them and I contacted them just to let them know that their modems were used as well and that they paid full retail for a used modem that had no warranty.
