HORRIBLE COMPANY

"I, as a golden orbitz member, have been using orbitz in the recent years significantly. This time ORBITZ gave me a trouble. When I book an international plane ticket, ORBITZ defined a luggage restriction even though the airline company for the longest flight allows more luggages for us. Therefore, we've accidently learnt that we have to pay 100$ per luggage at the last minute. I called ORBITZ and said that there was not luggage restriction in my previous flight which was almost same as the current flight. Even though the customer service said that they can help me if I can show an example flight for the inconsistency, the customer service changed their mind after I immediately shown an example flight for the inconsistency. Thererfore, DON'T USE ORBITZ OR BE READY TO PAY EXTRA AT THE LAST MINUTE !!!"

Price increased WHILE i was booking

"While trying to book, it would not complete the transaction (and did not give a reason) after three tries it finally said "Oh, we're sorry, the price has increased". I went directly to the airline and got the original price. Raising prices during booking should be criminalized."

Orbitz ****! They'll stick you if you don't read this!

"My name is Luan Hasani. I've had the WORST experience with Orbitz that I could have possibly imagined. Through out the whole process with them, I was lied to, misinformed and had to repeat myself over and over with 3 different managers because of how disorganized they were while not caring to help one of their customers. All three of them admitted their company was wrong at some point! On top of that, they pinched every penny they could to get out of liability for THEIR mistakes(you'd think a good company would make things right with their customer, plus sweeten the pot for your bad experience). Here's what happened: I booked a flight, and then had to change flights unexpectedly. I knew there would be a penalty. I spoke to some agent who clearly didn't know how to talk to customers and didn't know his job. He told me I couldn't get a refund but I could put the credit of the first flight towards a second flight. I asked him if my credit covered that total amount of the new flight to which he said yes. We went through that 10 TIMES. Where I asked and tried to make clear what I was paying(which should be their job). Once I felt comfortable, We hang up, and I happen to check my credit card statement and I'm charged an ADDITIONAL 1,000 dollars! What?! Since then I've spent hours on the phone with these people over the course of two weeks and no resolution. I keep getting low balled as an attempt to tire me out. I mean, come on, they admitted to listening to the conversation, admitted I was misinformed and STILL refuse to give me a refund?! Not asking for anything special! All I want is my money back and to start from square one. This has been the absolute worst customer service experience I've ever dealt with. Do NOT schedule with Orbitz. They are manipulators of words, liars, and will say ANYTHING to make you buy something, leaving you on the hook. "

"Used Orbitz a few times and always seems to have decent prices and deals

Instead of bombarding me with hotel discounts, how about some promos on rental cars and flights? And orbits dollars I just found out are only good on hotels (which are okay deals)

"Disappointing at best. Flight Canceled till 1 day later. Return flight moved up. Sat in the airport and still took off at the original time. Wasted 2 days of a 4 day vacation. Had to stay in a hotel at the airport(on my dime) No offer of compensation. Orbitz had my car rental held but I was charged for the full reservation. I had prepaid activities (non refundable) that I lost out on. Orbitz.com solution 1st a $50 then a $100 voucher for future travel through them. Better chance of seeing God then me using Orbitz.com The standard answer from Orbitz.com is:

"I stayed in Hotel Eclat, Taipei for 4 nights in Nov 12. While the stay itself was delightful, making the booking was extremely infuriating...thanks to Orbitz.

I made the booking in early Oct 12 as i was attracted by their 15% Fall Hotel Sale. Orbitz took back the 15% discount at the very last step as i was checking out and making payment online. When i realized the numbers were oddly high, i checked and realized the mistake.

So i wrote to Orbitz to request a resolution of this error. Orbitz were quick to respond and admit the mistake, which made me very happy. However, NOTHING else was done after that despite more than a month of repeated emails (more than 5 separate ones) from me asking for an update. I just get replies like this:

"I have been using Orbitz for as far back as I can remember. Their site is very easy to navigate, especially when booking a flight, hotel and car rental together. "Just came back from traveling a few weeks back, booked through orbitz.com this time. When shopping, I found the price to be competitive. Easy navigation and easy check-out process. The trigger for this positive review however, is their price assurance program. They will automatically cut you a check if better pricing is found elsewhere.

As an update to my original experience, I just came back from a second trip which again I had booked at orbitz.com. I still stand by my positive rating. This time I udated my profile to get status notification over email on the airline departure and gate information. On my flight out, I had an email notification indicating that the flight was scheduled to depart as planned, and it also provided me with the gate information. On my flight back, I received a similar note about 4 hours prior to departure. However, around 2 hours before scheduled departure I received a follow up note stating that my flight was 30 minutes delayed. Again, great help for me in managing time and expectations for the travel.

"I found a cheaper deal on Orbitz a few minutes after placing my order for my hotel + car package. I tried calling and after being transfered around 3 times (taking over an hour), they still can't get their heads out of their asses to give me a competent customer service rep. Even though I could've saved $40, if no one picks up the damn phone, how can you claim to have 24 hours customer support? I'm never doing business with these guys ever again. AVOID AVOID AVOID!"

" I reserved a fairly nice hotel room last August through Orbitz, paying $312 in advance. When I got there, the hotel had no record of my reservation. I called OrbitzTLC and they said they would take care of it. When I checked out two days later, the hotel said they never received payment from Orbitz, so they charged my card the $450 walk-in rate.
I called Orbitz and they apologized profusely and again said they would take care of it. Two days later I had a refund for $268 with a letter saying sorry for the inconvenience, but that's all I should expect to receive and they now consider the matter closed. I immediately called back, waded through their menu system, waited on hold for 20 minutes and tried to explain the situation to a rep who barely spoke English. Over the next month and a half I made an additional 15 phone calls to their call center, faxed my hotel receipt to them (couldn't they get this from the hotel itself?) and went several rounds with the Better Business Bureau. They finally gave me the majority of my money back "as a gesture of goodwill." They actually said giving me MY money back that was overcharged was a gesture of goodwill. After all of this, they still refused to refund the entire amount and ended up shorting me $30. NEVER DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY. There are cheaper alternatives with much less hassle.

"Orbitz said I was confirmed at a hotel in Italy, and I was not. My friend and I made reservations through Orbitz at the same hotel on the same day, making the reservations within a few minutes of each other. A few days later, when he called the hotel to confirm that he had a reservation, the hotel confirmed it. When I called the hotel to confirm my reservation, they had no record of it. I called Orbitz to question this, and they said that they never confirm with a hotel until 6 weeks before I am to arrive at the hotel. By that time, of course, reservations would be unavailable at that hotel or any other hotel in any major city in Italy. I do not feel that I can trust Orbitz again to make a confirmed reservation. At the very least, if you do use Orbitz, always follow up in a few days with a contact directly to the hotel, airline, etc. where Orbitz says you have a reservation, just to be sure."
