"I've bought about 20 frames and clip-ons from Vick over the last decade. I've always had a pleasant experience communicating with him. I just ordered another two pairs from him today and only paid about $5 more for the same models I ordered 10 years ago. Perhaps it's because I've been ordering from him for a while, but I've never had a problem with any order I've placed. Exchanging for different sizes has been easy. Shipping to friend's addresses has been easy. His is the only shop I order frames from and will continue to be as long as we're both still kicking."

Exactly what I needed at a great price with fast shipping

"I needed a replacement for my frame which broke and Optometrist Attic had it at a great price. I also decided to upgrade the temples with silicone covers already installed. I was sent a tracking number and it was shipped out quickly. I couldn't be happier with the result, a very comfortable perfect fit. Thanks, Vick!"

Disrespected, offended customer

"The most disrespectful, offensive and frustrating shopping experience in all my life. After a long search I found what I want in this site and placed an order. It was Saturday. I then got the confirmation and payment was done. Everything looked fine .... then I received an email from Vick. There was a problem with the shipping address. A simple confusion. I replied explaining and solving the misunderstanding. Fine ..; no, it was not fine. Very soon I got a message saying the order was cancelled ! Surprised I emailed back to know what had happened. Why the order was cancelled. Reply was rude and basically said there were too many addresses and that he was uncomfortable with this !!! There were not too many addresses and I had said which address to use for shipping. Answer from my complain was rude, arrogant and offensive. Basically I was told to go shopping elsewhere. More, I was told that any order would be cancelled and a two dollar cancellation fee charged!. What? A seller cancels an order and charges a fee for the cancellation? There was a suggestion of some wrongdoing from my side! Could not imagine the problem: I placed an order, paid for it, provided and shipping address. What could be wrong. He did not like the address? I foolishly tried to solve the issue. Proposed several possibilities. Different shipping options, if he did not liked the shipping address I provide (can imagine why but was willing to provide other address). Answer to requests were allwyas arrogant, condescending, uninterested and telling me to go shopping elsewhere. Based on other reviews it looks like he has a problem when things are not exactly his way. Any issue, no matter how small and irrelevant, and he goes nasty. His suggestion to go shopping elsewhere was followed, of course, and the new seller had absolute no problem with shipping (as no other seller has ever had). The first time in decades I am mistreated by a seller. The first time I in decades meet a seller who tells me to do shopping elsewhere. The first time in decades I meet a seller who does not try to make business. Incredible. I was offended, insulted. In previous shopping experiences the sellers were all. again ALL, helpful, courteous, willing to help and apologised when they could not fill my needs and said would be glad helping me in the future should I return for another purchase. There is something wrong with this guy. "

my perspective

"I've been reading the reviews, have learned that the gentleman Vick they are referring to is great at what he does. He doesn't waste time or money on upgrading his site, or later drowning to Honey people who can't make up their minds about what they want, or simply explain what they are looking for. There are many sites that describe every kind of eyeglasses to be made. So to the unhappy people, try looking up your ideal kind, writing down the discription, then contact him with your order. Keep it simple, and let him ho what he does best. He seems old school and not uptight. Maybe we should take lessons from him. Kiss method, - Keep, - it, -Simple,- Stupid. Nothing personal, just explaining the kismemeaning. Have a good day everyone. "

Repeat customer, completely happy!

"I've purchased from Optometrist Attic twice, and have been completely satisfied both times. Vick is, admittedly, a little old-fashioned in his approach to business, which I consider a plus in this impersonal day and age! He is direct, no-nonsense, but really does care about his products, his customers, and their eyesight.

He carries quality products, prices them fairly, and provides good after-sale service. I'll go to him first whenever I need frames.

Awesome service, awesome product

"My experience with this seller could not have been better. Communication was great. I had to change my order after placing it, and he made that very easy. I had my order 3 days after placing it.

The negative reviews here sound like snowflakes that need a hug from everyone that they do business with. Go to your mothers for that. If you need great frames Vick is your man.

A Surreal and ultimately exhausting experience

"I'm not familiar with the antique eyewear collector community options that are out there, and my first time purchasing directly from a vendor I didnt know, but hey, I'd found a pair I'd searched years for, and excitedly took the plunge.

This was a frame I'd looked for far and wide for years. When i found it on Vick's site i was truly ecstatic.

I sent the man an email the day after making the order since I hadn't heard anything from him. But I knew it was the weekend, and it easily could be a vendor that takes two days off and replies on monday, and made sure to mention this so he wouldnt think me impatient.

Like anyone who's ever used the internet knows: when you by straight from a vendor's own site for the first time, a vendor in a field of specialty that you do not keep up on the latest news of, and if you do not have a psychic ability specifically attuned to website credibility; You sometimes feel a twinge of concern. His site did NOT look sketchy to me as other customers said it did for them. I thought it's vintage web look was perfect for a vintage eyewear store and quite quaint.

MY ONLY CONCERN was if it was still being tended to as there ARE many websites online that look active but were long abandoned.

So I simply sent an email, telling him that his store had made a customer happier than he'd been (shopping wise) in a very long time and his work helped someone find an item with tremendous sentimental value that meant a great deal to them. I said no worries about the weekend, but if he sees me i just need any email from him and then all my nervous excitement will turn to relief. And then thanked him again.

On monday i was thrilled to see that he received payment and that the glasses were going out that day! Relieved, I relaxed and went back to my inbox. Uh oh, wait.... theres another email from him. He saw that I'd written an email expressing "concerns" earlier. Okay, but he just relieved all my concerns. I read on:

So now because of that email the order he was on his way to send me is canceled!!!!

since this made no sense, i replied very graciously explaining that theres been a misunderstanding i'd love to help clear up the confusion. I explained in detail that i only emailed with question out of excitement about something made possible by HIS store, that these glasses meant alot to me personally, and that an enthusiastic customer simply wanted to make sure that his store was open and that he'd be able to send him money, and how thrilled he was about the product in his store.

I was expressing sincere appreciation for HIS efforts, something many operators in many fields wait a life time to here!

To my sheer and absolute amazement, it seemed to be, that this guy took THAT as some KIND OF SLIGHT! An offense so egregious, that i would never shop at his store. At this point, i was almost speechless, and completely shocked and confused.

I explained in detail the misunderstanding and with as generous and courteous a letter I've ever written a business.

He responds by again refusing to sell to me at his business ever...... WHat!!!!///////??????

........This man treats people very badly.

"Wouldn’t let my husband order glasses and ship to another address even though he’s overseas; man/owner accused him of being a scammer. Will take our business elsewhere."

"Posed a question by email he answered quickly and directly. Product showed up quick and as it should be. Size chart is extremely helpful and right on. Easy in, easy out. Just about to buy another frame... an American Anglo #406 tan frame, maybe put some tinted green lenses in. No accounting for taste."

Apparently, you either love him or you hate him

"I've never had a problem. He always responds quickly and even replaced one pair when a nose pad broke off while I was adjusting it -- no questions asked. I've purchased about 5 frames from him over the years. Vick is a bit direct -- he sent me looking elsewhere one time -- but I didn't take that personally. He is busy and he doesn't want to deal with you unless you know what you want and are ready to buy. This is a one-man shop, not a mall with dumb employees telling you to have a good day. If you understand that, you won't be disappointed. "

If there is not a new man, how can the new clothes be made to fit?

"I am an older man (62 years old) and I like the older styles. What was once in style seems to be back in style, as the younger people all comment on how much they like my glasses. I have bought from the Optometrist Attic more then once, and have always been pleased with both the product and the service. The other reviews on this site seem to complain about things that the younger people complain about these days, and I think that most of it is perhaps a Generational thing. We of my generation all grew up on a simpler ideal. For instance, to most of us; Walden by Henry David Thoreau was a central ideal. My kids (the 30 something's) think this is crazy. But, for example, when Vick says that he keeps the cost low (and it is low) by not insuring delivery....and then says that if you want it....you buy it.....I understand and appreciate that the cost is low...and so is the insurance at $2 for $100 insurance...so I buy it each time just to be safe. And the product has always been packaged well and delivered safely. As far as some of the other comments on this site...I think it is perhaps younger humor wasted on older values. And so, please take it from me....if you want some of the best built frames.....at a fair price.....and can keep it very simple as far of customer service expectations......then just bite your tongue.....count to ten.....and buy here......or don't....but you will not find a better value then the Optometrist Attic.....and Vick.

"I was recently a repeat customer, trying to get some answers to questions about differences in products from a particular manufacturer. Vick's answers were timely, but they were curt and were not answers to the questions I was asking. When I requested a phone number that I could reach him by (to clear up the email confusion), he told me to go elsewhere. I would avoid doing business with this company, unless you just like to be risky with your money and your eye wear investments."

"Not sure why the bad reviews.
I have been wearing the same vintage style since 1976. Over the years its become more and more difficult to locate the style I really like.
When I needed new frames about 4 years ago, I couldn't get the style I've been wearing for so many years. Everywhere I went to try to locate these frames, people would act like I was crazy.
When I found the site and saw my frames, I couldn't believe it. I quickly order to set and when they arrived, it was apparent that I had ordered too quickly and ended up with the style I did not want.
I dropped Vic an email and within a week, I had returned the pair I did not want and I had the frames I have been wearing for years.
Two weeks ago I ordered 2 more sets of these frames. They just arrived yesterday, I swap the lenses out of my old bent frames and I am wearing my new set now, with one set in storage.
I couldn't be more pleased with this site and with Vicks excellent service.
My only hope is that the Optometrist Attic stays in business for many many years.
