Although the site doesn't tell you what it is made of, it is made a very heavy plastic. Don't let this detour you from purchasing, it is beautiful. It does have some weight to it, so use anchors. We were impressed on how easy the set went together.
There were only 2 small issues
1) The bag of hardware was not sealed. When it moved in the unpacking process it emptied all over the floor. Fortunately all pieces were found.
2) The is a very small divet on the edge of the table top. It was before the painting since there is no chipping or cracking of the paint in the area. It is on the edge pushed against our kitchen wall and is not large enough for us to return the item. More quality control may be needed.
We are enjoying using our new set.
