"I like Nordstrom, like their stores, love their products.. but not so much about the price. It hurts even more to shop here when they don't participate in special events like Black Friday because they believe "their prices are the best." No it is not. Not compared to Macy's anyway. The average person cannot afford anything in this overpriced store. But nonetheless, I love it and will continue to shop here...

I always loved LOVED their "order online, pick up in store" option, and their return policy is genius! It's even better in-store that when you make a special order, they always waive the $10 shipping fee for you. But the only major downside of doing so is that Nordstrom takes FOREVER to process the order and ship it! Granted the order came from another store that has the item you want in stock, but I cannot shake the fact that it takes them up to 2 weeks to process a simple order and ship it. Ridiculous.

The first time I made a special order from Arden Fair Nordstrom for a Bal Coin purse, it was in a color they did not have in stock. The order came from Washington (west coast, not DC), and it took them 2 weeks to process and ship the order. Don't even bother with their so-called "FedEx" tracking number on the receipt either, because it does not work.

When my order did arrive, I was horrified that they just tossed this $300 coin purse into the box with no protection whatsoever. The studs came right off its screw and it was unrepairable. I was furious. However the second time I did special order for an MJ ring, the item came a little more properly packed, thankfully. I was worried the whole time. Their return policy for web/mail order items is fantastic. They accepted the return right on the spot, no questions asked.

I'm not sure if I'll ever do another special order in their store, though. I always worry about the item breaking and I have to get it returned. Nordstrom needs to speed up their processing and shipping speeds when making a special order. I don't want to wait 2 weeks to ship something that should've taken up to 5 days to deliver to me. Gimmie a break Nordies.

"I'm not fond on overly detailed reviews so this will be an executive summary.

Online Chat help either doesn't have the tools they need to answer simple questions or are illiterate. Site indicated products were available, but Chat said, "Not in stock" and when challenged about the discrepancy said, "There's a problem with that page." Duh.

BTW, Chat was wrong; products *were* in stock. Duh.
(I know that because I decided to believe that naughty page rather than Chat.)

Fulfillment of order was OK.

They charge a "Handling fee" if you use the provided shipping label but mention that only in the very fine print. Duh.

We will not order from Nordstrom.com again and after this experience we're less likely to bother with their overpriced stores either. There are much better choices out there.

"I ordered a Curio Cable Knit Swing Cardigan from Nordstrom online and received the shipment on 8/6/10. When I opened the box and removed the tissue on top, what I saw was some loose thread with a missing big button, 3rd from the top. I checked the box if any loose button was inside or an extra one normally attached to the coat but I couldn’t find any. I was so surprised and disappointed as this was ordered from Nordstrom, not from ebay. I won’t be surprise if I received an item with a defect, but can’t believe a big button right in the front missing. It was so obvious. The packing slip stated it shipped out from Palo Alto’s Nordstrom in Stanford Shopping Center. I called their customer service and request an exchange. They agreed to send me another one and asked me to send the one without the button back to Nordstrom, but I couldn’t find the return label inside the box either. Next time if I order online, I have to put a note “don’t ship from the Stanford Shopping Center store”."

"Nordstroms is the BEST STORE EVER!

Their prices and policies are unbeatable. There is free exchanges so you don't have to worry about ordering the wrong size. You can easily return anything to a store at any time. No more buyer's remorse!

The customer service is outstanding. I especially like the Live Chat feature. They are always kinds and courteous. They will look up a product for you in stores if it is out of stock online.

All my orders arrive very fast within a few days. They will notify you immediately if they are out of stock in something.

For stress free shopping, I choose Nordstroms!


Edit (07/05/10): To the people who found my review unhelpful... I shop Nordstroms store and online very frequently and have always been very happy with their service and have never had a problem. How many times have you shopped there? Once?

They have since altered their policies a bit to combat the down economy. It is understandable and they are still better than other department stores out there, but I am disappointed in their new price match and price adjustment policies. I talk to a girl in their live chat and she completely denies the change in policy, which is what makes me angry. If you're going to change the policy that's fine, but don't lie to me about it too.

"The best store for customer service. I have been shopping online for almost 10 years and although they have their kinks once in a while, you can always work it out. The new website inventory system that they instituted in August 2009 has had some issues with items they claim they have and then it turns out they don't. They did this to me a few times but as a result, they sold me a $195 lagos pendant for $88 when the $88 one was not available. If you have a real issue, you have to ask to speak to a supervisor or manager at the customer service level. I have spent thousands of dollars there buying and returning and I think they are the best. And, they are the only major retailer with such a lenient return policy."

"I've shopped online at Nordstrom for approximately 5 years now, mostly because I have their credit card and earn reward certificates after spending certain amounts. These are very handy, but you do need to spend about $2000 to receive a $20 certificate. However, this can be pretty effortless considering the cost of some of the merchandise.

The good points... the website is well laid out, very easy to shop, and checkout. They make it seem like everything listed is in stock (with a twist, which I'll cover under the bad points). They now have the option to pick up your merchandise in the store, which is neat but I have yet to try this out. I usually order items online that are not carried at my local store.

Now onto some of the bad points, which in my case outweigh the good. Regarding my previous mention of items showing in stock, yes indeed they are in stock... but in stock in a Nordstrom store across the country! Yes, they will ship your items that are not in stock on the website from a physical store and not from their distribution center in Iowa. Not that there's anything wrong with that, at least you get your items. However if you're purchasing items like gifts, I certainly wouldn't order anything from this site if I were in a rush (even with express shipping). There's a good chance all your items will arrive at various times like my last order. A couple items came from their distribution center, and 2 other items came from their Seattle store. Since I'm on the East coast it took almost two weeks to receive my order from the time I purchased it online, to the time the package was at my door.

Will I purchase online from Nordstrom again? Sure I will, but not if I want (somewhat) instant gratification. I'll shop elsewhere whether it be a competitor's store online or at a physical store.

"Let me begin by saying i love their store. I made a purchase on their website this past christmas and was a little dissapointed in the order processing. However, they ended up upgrading my shipping so that I would receive the order in the time they promised. Once I did receive my product I was sad to see that the coat I purchased did not have very good pictures online, because the jacket had a vent in the back and the pictures did not show the back at all.
Needless to say, I was able to return the product in the local Nordstrom store. I will return to buy from them again.

"I have ordered two times from Nordstrom online, both of them are great experiences. What I like about Nordstrom is, some of the skin care and cosmetic products are only sold here. Occasionally they give out free samples, some of them are even full size, which is really good. Their shipping is faster than other online stores like macy's or sephora. Will definately shop there again. "

"I placed an order of clothes for $1040. I had recently moved and I had to change the default address on file with them to the correct one as I was checking out online. I specifically made sure it was the correct address when I checked out, as I have zero access to the old address. When I got the confirmation email, it was the old address. I was irritated, called in and had them re-route the entire order. One of the skirts in the order had been backordered and would ship separately. You would think if I had the entire order re-routed, this item would be re-routed to the correct address as well. Well, since I knew I wouldn't be able to get the skirt if it did ship to the wrong address, I wanted to call to ensure it was re-routed when I saw the skirt shipped. The online status check never said it shipped so I assumed it was still backordered. Weeks later, I see the charge on my credit card for this skirt. I call in, was told this skirt is a "designer" item and I would need to be transferred to the "designer" dept because the general Nordstrom reps don't know anything about "designer" items. I was transferred to a Patti, who was extremely rude and kept interrupting me. She basically said, "this isn't our fault. We shipped the item to the location you requested. Most our designer items ship directly from stores within 4-5 days." I was like, "and how would I know that?? the status was never updated online, why was the skirt not re-routed??" And she said "well we don't have any communication with general Nordstrom, we're a separate dept." ...again, how would I know that?! She insisted I should've known the skirt would ship in 4-5 days from a store as it's a designer item, and not rely on the online status check. She even asked me why I can't have someone there find the skirt and ship it to me. She basically told me the only thing I can do is file a dispute with my credit card company.

I called my credit card company with this situation, and the rep said clearly the merchant should give me the credit. I contacted Nordstrom again via Live Chat and got Amy C. I re-explained this story. She told me she would look into it and resolve it, and give me a call back. She never called back. I re-contacted Live Chat and asked for Amy. She wasn't available. I had to again explain the story to "Craig." He told me he would have to speak to a manager and I was on hold for 20 minutes. Finally he told me they know it was their responsibility to communicate with the designer dept and have the skirt re-routed with the rest of the order, so they'll give me the full credit back.

So, I put the whole thing behind me, and assumed the refund came. Today I check my statement and realize I never got the refund. I contact Live Chat about my refund status and they say they see no refund due on my account. Seeing they don't understand the situation, I decide to call in. The rep says, we don't have info on this because it's a "designer" item, let me transfer you to the designer apt. Of course, I get PATTY again. She says, uh I already spoke with you, did you dispute it with your credit card yet? I said, look I already contacted Craig, he promised me a refund, I don't want to keep arguing about this. Patty keeps repeating what she said last time - "I don't know what the problem is, we delivered to the address you requested. You can't have someone there ship it? Is it a business or residential?" I just didn't want to waste more breath explaining this, was so tired of it, so I said can you find Craig for me or dig up chat transcripts under my account? She said they have so many agents there they can't dig up the transcripts. We literally argued. Loudly. She finally said she'll speak to her manager and call me back. Seeing her attitude, I didn't think she would. I contact Live Chat again to be transferred to Craig, thinking maybe they could do it, or at least dig up transcripts. Amy C says she can't but can she assist me? I re-explain the situation AGAIN. Long silence. She comes back with, I just spoke with Patty in designer, she says she knows what's going on and she will give you a call. WOW. REALLY? At this point, I was thinking of just filing an official complaint with BBB or unleashing total hell in any way I can. Patty calls me in a bit, tells me they will reissue the refund. This was literally the worst customer service experience I have ever undergone, and it STUNS me that it's with a company that's always exhibited superior customer service. Hellish - that's the only word for it.

"Ordered a pair of Men's Diesel Shoes from Store #522 (Freehold Raceway Mall, NJ)on 2/2/06. Box arrived on 2/7/06. Upon opening the box, I found 2 right shoes, one in my size, and one a half size bigger.

Called the store, and was given an excuse ("Sorry we are under renovation, we have no phones in the store") when I asked to speak with a manager. Sales associate took my name and number and told me I would recieve a call back in 20 minutes. After an hour, I called the Nordstrom Customer Service # on their website.

Waiting for my call back as I write this review...

They were never able to find the shoes I ordered in stock anywhere. I ended up having to drive to a local Nordstrom and return the shoes. I was also double charged for shipping when I returned the shoes. After more hassle dealing with a customer service rep, I was credited for the shipping. I will never buy from Nordstrom again.

"WOW. Found the robe my wife fell in love with 2 years ago! (she wanted this robe since 2001!) They still carried it and since it was online I got the exact size I needed. They shipped via USPS (Shouldn't everybody?) and being bold enough to order something on Dec. 20th for it to arrive BEFORE Christmas Eve is amazing. A little sticker was also placed on the box saying "Please rush this before Christmas" or something to that effect. A+"
