"I received a postcard telling me my subscription would be extended (not an email). They did not provide an email or phone number to unsubscribe. I am unsubscribing to customer no service tricks."

National Geographic Online Store doesn't try to resolve vendor issues

"I ordered the Wolf Plush Toy from National Geographic Online Store December 2018 and it's currently May 2019 and have still not received it. They do not offer in-stock alerts so it's impossible to know if their products will come back in stock. Every time I call or email about my order they have pushed the date back a few weeks and since it was only a few weeks each time I waited. Now here it is May, 5 months later. I paid in December 2018, and all customer service can say is the vendor can change the date at any time. No explanation other than they guess the plush may have not been of high enough quality and the vendor may be remaking them. They told me the only other thing I can do besides waiting is cancel the order for a refund but said if it comes back in stock they may run out quickly since there are many on order currently along with my order. This kept/keeps me from canceling since my daughter really wants this wolf plush and with no in-stock alert I have to check their website each day to see if it's back in stock. I am truly disappointed that such a huge and well respected company feels this is the best way to treat their customers instead of adding an in-stock alert function and also insisting their vendors produce the products satisfactorily and on time, or find other vendors. "

Crazy Place to buy from

"Ordered 200.00 worth of items for christmas beginning of december. one week before christmas I called to see where the order was and if it would arrive in time. 3 weeks should have been enough. I was assured the order was in shippng and would arrive before christmas. A hold had been place on my bank card for the total amount. January came - hold expired - no delivery. Then they put another hold on my card. No delivery. The bank said since it was a hold they could do nothing. My money was **** for nothing every month until April when to my surprise 5 months after ordering the package shipped without any notice whatsoever. Dont order from this company - poor communication and customer service people are liars. I logged in to see what items were ordered to see if everything was there. It had been so long they dont even have a record of any orders. There was no paper work in box"

Stay FAR FAR away!!!

"In December I ordered a magazine subscription that included a free DVD as a special gift. I received an order confirmation email. Jump forward to March: I hadn't received the DVD nor had I received a single magazine from the subscription. I finally called the National Geographic Store customer service number. They informed me that they had cancelled my order WITHOUT contacting me. They did not send a cancellation email, mailing, or phone call. Nothing! I advised them that I found it very unprofessional that they made no attempt to contact me, and the customer service agent advised that they did not need to because they no longer carried that item. Since the item listing had showed that the item was available and also eligible for backorder, I asked the customer service agent what they could do since they had confirmed my order and never told me that they were cancelling it. The one and only thing she would offer was to give me the phone number for their magazine subscription department. For a company that has a solid reputation in the magazine world, I very disappointed at their lack of communication and lack of customer service. I will not order from them in the future."

Comedy of errors

"I ordered a hat from them in November that I wasn't happy with and returned the next day for a refund. I noticed that there were two charges on my credit card for the one hat that I ordered and was shipped. I contacted them and I was told that there had been some glitch in the system and was refunded the over-charge. Over a month later though, and numerous call to different customer service persons, I still do not have a refund on my credit card for the one charge that is left on my account. I've talk to at least 6 different people and supervisors, on 6 different occasions, and each time I've been assured that this issue is corrected. Once I'm off the phone with them I check e-mail and sure enough there is a new computer generated response that there is a hold on my transaction! and THE NIGHTMARE STARTS AGAIN... "

Wish I could give zero stars

"I placed an order on a Friday night. By Sunday morning, I realized I made a mistake. I wanted to cancel the order. The order was still in a pending process. They hadn't even prepared the item for shipping. I couldn't find a way to cancel so I contact customer service. They require you cancel within 30 minutes of placing an order! They would send a pre-paid return shipping label that I could use to return the item AFTER I receive it (that means I'm out the shipping charges it cost to send it to me). On top of that, it turns out the item isn't eligible for that shipping label and would actually cost a $25 fee to return it! Please keep in mind that the order hadn't even been processed! No work had been done. It's probably still sitting on a shelf.
Absolutely terrible.

OVer-Priced & Horrendous Customer Service

"I ordered a travel coat in December 2016 and had to return it because it was way to large. I sent it back to them (on my dime) asked them to exchange it for a smaller size. Over 3 weeks have gone by since they received the return and I have not received any response to my inquiries or any acknowledgement of the return receipt from them. So now they my money and the coat. The cost was over-priced to begin with and their customer service is horrendous. Be advised- shop elsewhere. "

"Ordered several items. Only half were included in the shipment even though all were under the same tracking number. The items in the order were poorly packaged, causing some items to be damaged or become dirty.
I received no response to my email to customer service. Finally after waiting on hold for 10 minutes, customer service did reorder the missing items. Only to call me back to say they were now out of stock (of because you messed up and didn't ship when ordered).
Buyer beware and order from Amazon who has figured out how eCommerce should work.

"Ordered a rolled map from NatGeo Online Store for $19.95 + $5.95 for shipping. Received it today in a tube that was broken in half and the map inside torn and damaged. Called NatGeo to get replacement and they charged my card AGAIN. Now I have to wait 3-5 business days for a refund. I do NOT recommend this retailer."

"Ordered mapping software directly from National Geographic due to comments that the stores selling their product was selling outdated software. The site indicates standard shipping and charges Eleven Dollars for standard shipping. The standard shipping is extremely high for a box with a CD in it. In addition you have no control over who the item will be shipped with. They supposedly ship smaller items through the Post Office and not UPS, but do not tell you that. In addition there is no tracking with the Post Office. They say that the earliest you can expect delivery is 7-10 days NOT COUNTING weekends for their standard shipping.
This is a company that supposedly want you to support their nonprofit mission, yet they are not interested in providing quality or efficient service when it comes to mailing products.
They seemed surprised that you would question them shipping through the Post Office or the excessive shipping fees.

"Review update. I did finally receive the pine tree this January. So I'm glad to say that they did deliver. Would I order from them again? Probably not.

I never received the product (Wollemi Pine) and after being told twice that the product had shipped and not receiving it, I gave up and canceled the order. If I can save you the six months of deal with this vendor, please read on.

I'm going to make this short, as this is a very long story.

I ordered the tree on August 24th. As soon as Wollemi Pine Club website said National Geographic was going to be the vendor in North America (long before it was on front page of the NG shopping site and before the e-mail was sent). I went to the National Geographic searched on Wollemi Pine. It was listed, so I ordered it.

I was informed by National Geographic twice that it shipped. But, the tree was never was delivered. Requiring me to e-mail the Customer service. Only after seven e-mails over the last six months, I was finally told "You are welcome to preorder the Wollemi Pine for spring" and "The Trees are expected to ship on or around 4/15/07".

Needless to say, I'm very unhappy with National Geographic. I will just wait until someone else propagates the tree and purchase from them.

"Disappointing is about all I can say. First I tried to subscribe to National Geographic Magazine vis their web site. Things seemed to go through fine. 3 weeks later, no billing had occurred. I called their 800 number, no record of the online transaction. I subscribed and was billed via the phone. Almost 2 months later, still no magazine. They seem to have no idea what could be going wrong and why my order via the web never went through. They did offer to resend missing issue(s) and extend my subscription. Think I'd resubscribe using USPS next time, they don't seem up to speed on the web or by phone."
