Terrible Product Quality, Low Work Ethics

"We have a flooring company installed Mannington Engineered Wood (Bengal Bay) to our first floor 7 months ago. After 7 months the floor start showing dents, scratching and marring. The wood has chipped off in some of the joints and looks awful. We contacted our installer. Initially they said they for sure will help with the claim. Claim was submitted (together with the samples they requested) and it took 8 weeks to hear from them. And they said there is no problem. They didn't even send an inspector to check the flooring which was put just 7 months ago. They don't care about their customers. Their customer service is very unprofessional as well. On top of their poor quality products, so utterly disappointed in the absolute lack of integrity and ownership of this company. Do yourself a favor and stay clear away from Mannington products. Zero work ethics. Very disappointed."

Mannington needs an Erin Brokovich of flooring. (Deny, Deny, Deny!)

"We had over 3,000 feet of flooring installed in 8/2014. Mannington on all the staircases and steps in our multilevel house and another brand on all the level rooms. 9 months later, the Mannington premium laminate flooring is warping and bubbling at the seams. (Revolution Time Crafted Maple)

We have 5 kids, and the youngest has a genetic disorder that leaves him with a missing barrier in the skin. He's allergic to fragrances and chemicals, so we can only use the most natural/mild of cleaning products. 90% of the time, I use plain warm water misted on 6" sections and then dried off within seconds with a soft towel. Bi-weekly, we have a professional cleaning company that uses a true neutral / true basic PH solution that is very diluted and can't harm any finishes.
They also mist and wipe dry instantly.

The floors in the rest of the house are pristine. All guests are asked to remove shoes, all items on the floors are on felt pads. Not a mark or scratch on the floors, other than the warped, flaking and peeling stairs. But the finish around the mess is still shiny and intact -not stripped or dulled from harsh cleaning agents.

So we have the installer look at it. He says has to be a manufacturer's defect, or my other floors would have problems since they get cleaned the same way. We have the retail store owner check, he says the same thing and takes pictures to send to Mannington. They instantly reject the claim, saying it's clearly excessive water damage. The retail store owner defends us and our cleaning practices and Mannington sends an independent flooring inspector. Who says the final decision isn't up to him, but it's obvious that it has nothing to do with how we care for the floors as the entire finish would be dull and stripped if we were steaming or sloppy wet mopping them, and the other floors are as perfect as new.

Mannington denies the claim again, in writing. The store owner gets it 1st and calls them and asks for the inspector's report. They refuse, saying it's private property. He tells them the customers will demand it and she tells him they will need a subpoena to get it!

I call and they tell me I voided the warranty by using plain water (!) on the flooring and also by not using their cleaning solution. Which I can't use with my son's issues. They tell me the inspector clearly stated I caused the problems in the flooring in his report. They ignore the logic of why the other floors are fine and why the finish is fine, it's just the seams that are soaking up moisture like a sponge. They refuse to give us a copy of the report.

I start to look online for similar issues and find hundreds of them for the exact same problem, plus soft finishes that scratch and dent easily. yelp.com, ripoffreport.com, BBB, flooring.net, complaints board.com, they are everywhere!

And all of these ppl have been told they violated their warranty b/c they don't have a/c in their home, left the windows open, have too much moisture in the air, didn't shut the blinds in the daytime and the sun damaged the floors, let guests wear shoes in their home...it's appalling!
I haven't found one case yet where they honored their warranty on their horribly cheap and defective workmanship. "Do the right thing", indeed!

"I just floored my entire home that is 3400 square feet with their flooring and when we moved our furniture back into our home if any part of it touched the floor directly with out something soft in between it left a scratch that can not be repaired. Our old way cheaper flooring that we replaced was installed for 14 years and not one scratch after making it through 3 kids and 2 dogs. Now we cant even let our dog inside because if he moves to fast his nails will leave a permanent scratch. Filed a warranty with Floor company that installed the flooring and they in turn contacted Mannington and 5 weeks later they deny our claim based on the pictures we sent in. They did not contact us or send anyone out to look. Luckily my wife is an attorney so we are going to file suit against them and the flooring company to try to get something done. DO NOT PURCHASE THEIR PRODUCT!"

"Mannington Blue Ridge Hickory Engineered Hardwood (premium, 25 year warranty) was installed in our new home. Within 18 months the flooring exhibited cracks at the end of the boards and within 24 months the boards began peeling and cracking. Within 36 months - the boards had severe cracks and splits; in fact - if you walked on the floor barefoot - you got splinters in your feets. Mannington agreed to send an inspector who verified that the condition was throughout the house; the inspector indicated that the boards may not have been kiln dried as all environmental conditions were within the Mannington specifications (i.e. humidity was within the specified range, there was no excessive moisture, floor cleaner used was approved). He stated that he would submit a report to Mannington within the week and we should request a copy of the assessment. When we spoke to Mannington, however, they refused to provide a copy of the report - stating they paid for it and it was confidential! And although Mannington reps confirmed that the report did NOT identify any environmental or installation conditions which could have caused the splintering - Mannington insisted that this did not mean that the product failure was due to a manufacturing defect. This made no sense of course...if the product failure was not caused by environmental conditions in the home or by improper care - the only other cause could be manufacturing issues. To appease us, Mannington agreed to have the installer take out three boards and return them to the factory for analysis; per Mannington the results of that analysis were "findings of severe cracks and splits of unknown cause"; since cause is unknown - claim was denied. CONCLUSION- Mannington does not stand behind it's products. The 25 year warranty is worthless. Do NOT buy from Mannington. Retailer/installer confirmed this has been his experience with Mannington and he no longer recommends consumers the brand. CONTACTS at Mannington: Monica Miller and Rebecca Wiley (her Supervisor)."

"**AVOID Mannington**

If you are looking to buy flooring for your home or business project, AVOID Mannington.

I contacted their toll-free number, which touts 24/7 customer service at their website. When I finally reached someone to request courtesy samples to preview before buying the flooring product, I was told that she could not help me. She gave me another number to call to request samples. When asked to be transferred to that number, she refused. When asked why I needed to call yet another number despite the website claiming 24/7 customer service, I got a curt, "That's just how it is." Already, I was becoming suspicious of dealing with Mannington at this point. Of course, the number I had to call was not open, only 9-5 hours. When I finally had a chance to call given the restricted hours (I work 9-5 like many other people), I got VERY POOR customer service. I requested the samples by their title listed on the website and the customer service rep didn't even know them. Once she found out it was from their Adura line, she told me she could not send courtesy samples. If it was something else, she would send them. WHY?? "Why not send me the samples??" I asked her. She started reciting company policy and never answered my question. I asked to speak to her supervisor. Again, same rhetoric, same policy recitation from the supervisor. She told me to go to the nearest Mannington dealer to buy samples. BUY SAMPLES?!?! Hmmm, I got TONS of samples from the other major flooring manufacturers - and they were FREE!! After she did a search, the closest place was quite a distance - more than I was willing to travel since gas is over $4/gallon in my area. She finally admitted that there were no retailers in my area that carried the Adura line. On that note, I told her that since this was the case, Mannington should be willing to recognize the fact that I wouldn't be able to travel to any of the stores to view the product; therefore, they should honor my request to send the TWO samples I was asking for. I got a big fat NO! I asked for the email address of the president to write a complaint letter and was refused that as well. She put me on hold to 'see what she could do for me'. While that was happening, I found the president's email address by doing an online search. She came back and said there was nothing Mannington could do to secure my business. I was furious! She tried to give me some generic email address to write customer service, but we all know that such email addresses go to a large complaint/praise inbox and nothing ever becomes of such letters, and I told her that. I again asked for the president's email address and was told that it was not available to the public. How convenient, eh? The president of a major company doesn't want to hear from unhappy customers so he tells his staff not to give out his email address. I confronted her with the email address that I had found and asked her to verify the email address. Again, she refused to do even that. I wrote to the President and was astonished to all hell from his reply that he didn't give a damn that I had received such horrible customer service and that his multi-million dollar revenue company wasn't willing to send me just TWO samples of vinyl flooring. I even pointed out to him that there were no Mannington dealers in my area to view the product, but that didn't seem to matter to him. I further pointed out that his refusal to help me did not coincide with the company's stated core values that are found on the website - "Do the right thing" and "Care". Again, not honoring these core values was not important to him as he closed the letter by telling me to shop elsewhere for my flooring needs. WHAT?!?!?! Have you ever heard of a president telling potential customers to take a hike?? I was simply beside myself.

So, based on HIS own words, I recommend to anyone looking for flooring products to AVOID MANNINGTON and shop the other large flooring manufacturers. They are far more adept to offering good customer service. I got free samples from them WITHOUT THE HASSLE.

I have all the emails from the president if anyone wishes to see them. Additionally, I will tell you who to write to if you are EVER displeased with Mannington in any way, shape or form. ****@****, president of residential division. ****@****, chairman of the board of directors. ****@****, president of the entire company. These email addresses are public knowledge and were found using a search engine, if you are willing to do the legwork to search for them. Don't ask Mannington customer service for these contact names because they have obviously been told not to give them out as they will refuse your request for such information.

Again, AVOID Mannington and buy another name-brand flooring.
