Best reseller!

"They have a great variety of models at wonderful prices. Their staff are quite nice and helpful as well. I bought a laptop from them that worked smoothly for more than 6 years; only had to replace it because I needed a faster processor. Definitely would recommend!"

Serious lack of privacy controls -- Create an account on their website and they send your password back in an unsecured email

"Bizarre for an online retailer, but they really did send my username and password in plain text back to me by email so anyone with an internet sniffer could log into my account and see my name, address and phone number. Fortunately they did not store my credit card number with my account info or I'd be calling my bank now to cancel it.
Also no ability to delete your account once you create it, or remove the contents of the fields as they are all mandatory. Had to replace my personal info with fake entries (periods or one letter values). Obviously I had to cancel my order with them so I have no idea how good their products are.
When I called to complain, the woman said she'd have to forward it to their web team. This is a clear violation of the PIPEDA privacy legislation.

Extra after-sell service, EXCELLENT WARRANTY

"I bought a t430s in march 2016. The laptop was in perfect condition even though it said grade "A" (which meant scratches). I was gladly impressed. In october 2016, 3 keys stopped working and the charger broke. After 1 e-mail they sent me a replacement keyboard and charger without fees. They answer fast and the delivered the replacement products in no time even though they are in Toronto and I am in Montreal.

Really fast answering
Not lying about their warranties

"hello
my name is Steve H
on January 2010 i was going to buy a used and cheap laptop for my work.
i asked my friend and he told me to buy either T42 or T43.
i searched on google for used T42 and i found laptopcloseout.
i called them and talked to a lady , she gave me the prices then she transferred me to another guy to help me with the technician stuff.
they helped very well with kindness.
i ordered my laptop and got it exactly 3 days after ( as the guy told me) .
after that i had some kinds of problem with recovering my system , so i called them again. they helped me again even though my warranty was over.
they sent me a new recovery CD for nothing ( i just paid the shipping fee).
their prices were also good compare to other places.
i had a really good experience with this place.

"After researching refurb dealers for ages, I came across Laptop Closeout. I was a little spooked by the previous review here. However, the company is Better Business Bureau Accredited & has an "A" rating, which was encouraging.
I called with some dumb-newbie questions. The guy took the time to answer them & explain things to me. I did a little more research, then called with a few more dumb questions. Again, without pressure-sales-pitches or impatience about selling, he took time to talk to me. I ordered a Dell Latitude D610.
They delayed the shipping as I requested, so I'd be home to receive it. It came in 2 days.
He'd explained about getting computers from lots of business trade-ins, & how the grading worked. This was graded "A" but he did say "scratches are to be expected." This made me wonder what I'd end up with. Well, the thing has maybe two scratches, only one of which really shows & it took me 2 or 3 days to find the other one. Basically, it looks new. Everything is clean. The only real sign of wear is on the little pointy-stick, & that's not a big deal at all.
I got a couple of error messages about "Generic host process for Win 32 Services" needing to close. This didn't appear to lead to anything. I thought there shouldn't be error messages on a supposedly cleaned-out computer. They did reply promptly to my e-mail query, although they just suggested using the "restore disk" to "refresh" it. I hadn't done that much to it that it should need refreshing. I haven't done this yet, & it's been behaving (2 months).
I found a lot of year-old & older cookies in the files, which I thought shouldn't be there. I thought refurbishers reinstalled the OS but in any case, those temp files should have been cleaned out. I did that.
After doing all that & installing a couple of programs, I found the disk was considerably fragmented, & did the recommended defrag. I don't know how fragmented it was when it arrived.
I called with another techie question a month or so later, regarding CD drive compatibility between this & the older desktop. Again, the guy (not sure if the same one) took time to talk to me & explain things.
Overall, I thought their phone support & service was very good. The computer looks new; it works; & the price was great. I would recommend Laptop Closeout to friends.

"IBM ThinkPad T60 T60-35-05C

The Good: Very fast to ship. Customer Service number is answered by a live person. Prompt replacement of wrong power supply.

The Bad: Laptop arrived dirty (food particles) and some keys are sticky. The front palm rest wasn't attached. The LCD lid has deep scuff marks. Wrong power supply included.

The Ugly: Windows XP most likely unlicensed (sticker for Vista only). No attempt to address any of my concerns (except wrong power supply). Unresponsive to email.

More Details:

I decided to give LaptopCloseout.ca a try since they had a nice selection of used laptops at reasonable prices.

I ordered an IBM ThinkPad T60 (T60-35-05C) which was listed as "05 premium grade refurbished". Their website describes this 05 grade as follows:

Excellent Shape for a Used/Refurbished Product , Premium Grade laptops are picked from the larger lots of Factory Refurbished laptops, laptops that show no or only minor usage are picked and graded as Premium, Original New Software Load with License

This sounded good in writing, but unfortunately it is not what arrived at my door. First off, they packed the wrong power supply. The connector was not the correct size for a T60 (looked like a T42). I called them right away and they quickly sent the correct one via DHL.

Next, I had to clean food/grime off of it. At first, aside from being gross, I didn't think it was a huge deal since it could be cleaned off. After a closer inspection though I realized that some of the keys (most annoyingly the mouse buttons) had some sticky goo underneath them (probably soda). I was able to clean most of it out, but some keys continue to stick occasionally. Incidentally, the bottom of the laptop shows signs of water damage.

I then noticed that the palm rest appeared broken. It was detached from the chassis and could be lifted to see inside the laptop with little effort. After looking up the service guide on IBM's website, I found that the palm rest simply wasn't attached correctly. Following IBM's guide I was able to reattach it correctly, but only after fixing all the tabs that had been bent by it being installed improperly in the first place.

Lastly, a big selling point for me was that this laptop included XP. While it did come preloaded on the hard drive, nothing about this system would indicate to me that this is a legally licensed copy. The palm rest has a Vista sticker and the license key on the bottom is also for Vista.

I tried several times to reach someone in charge at this business. I even sent an email to every email address listed on their website, including the President of the company, without even so much as a reply.

After having no luck there, I filed a complaint with the BBB. As of this writing, this company has not replied to the BBB's inquiries.

Overall the laptop wasn't horrible, but it certainly wasn't worth the money I paid for it given it's condition. Most likely had they been upfront about the condition I would not have purchased this unit unless it was selling for a much lower price. If you're considering shopping here, buyer beware!

UPDATE: After talking with Laptop Closeout we were able to come to an acceptable resolution. They refunded part of my payment to bring the price in line with others of the same description. I was also given an option to return it for a full refund, but given the time I had spent working on it and the reduction in price, I felt it was now reasonable to keep it.
