Best way to protect your engine: Don't send it to Import Parts Pro.
The price points are compelling, but you get what you pay for. I purchased a Stage 3 Long Block package and the motor failed during the break in period, 3 weeks/700 miles/no boost/never even saw 4500 RPM. Warranty was denied because:
"Both intake valves were broken at the stems and we checked the guides and springs and they were not binding up or had dropped out of the retainers. So it was something in the cylinder that came in contact with them and broke them." Also that they don't do any work on the intake side due to the VVEL system, so they are not liable, etc.
After a very unprofessional exchange with Kyle (owner) on Facebook the motor was sent back to me upside down on a broken pallet. Turns out the intake valves were not broken, it was the exhaust valves! Also, a valve seat was missing. He claims he didn't have his notes in front of him when he informed me of my warranty denial, which makes me wonder just how many motors get sent back to these guys. Hard to believe this is the ONLY one and his explanation is so far off.
Since then there have been many theories whipped up by Kyle, anything to avoid accountability. I have been dealing with the aftermath of it for 10 months now, with much more work ahead to get it resolved.
Also worth noting is this quote from one of his emails: "What we are dealing with now is the machine work on the head was done completely by the machine shop. They would be the ones to warranty it."
...If that quote doesn't raise multiple red flags for you, then go ahead and send them your motor and THOUSANDS of dollars! If something goes wrong, be ready for an endless game of "Misinform, Justify, Deflect, Repeat" until this ultimate "deflect any and all responsibility card" gets played by denying that they even did the work!
Bottom line...if you do choose this shop, be prepared to build your motor twice. This entire experience has been a disaster and I hope that this review will make you at least explore other options before pulling the trigger on such an enormous expense."
