Overpriced, expensive shipping, and inedible.

"I bought my mother a gift card for Hope Bistro for Christmas after reviewing their website and the food options. My mother is recently widowed, and I figured this would be a great meal that she would not have to prep. She opted for a beef meal which looked delicious....so delicious that she skipped lunch to be able to really enjoy the dinner. The dinner cost around $30.00, and when she completed the transaction, shipping cost about another $30.00. Not discouraged, she was hoping the meal would be a $60.00 meal...one for a special occasion. When it arrived, it was no more than a microwave meal in a plastic dish. She followed the directions, and when done, the meat was dried out and could not be eaten. She paid (or I paid rather) $60.00 for a small bowl of pasta....the only part of the dish that was edible."

Mediocre and overpriced.

"I ordered three meals, hoping that we would like it enough to send some meals to a far-away family member as a Christmas gift. FedEx stopped delivering in the middle of the day on our delivery date because of snow, so the package arrived a day late. The food was still cold to the touch, but was completely defrosted. I called Home Bistro and spoke with John, who said as long as the food was still cold it was safe to put it in the freezer. I am not comfortable re-freezing meat, since that tends to decrease the quality and can make it unsafe to eat, so I decided to store the food in the fridge and make it the same day. Unfortunately I did not think to cut the cooking times, and John did not think to tell me that if I wanted to cook the food from its already-defrosted state, I should cook it for less time.

All of the food was terribly overcooked, making two of the three main courses truly terrible and one mediocre. I'm not sure cooking from frozen would have saved them, because the flavors weren't very good (with the exception of the ratatouille, which was tasty) and the texture of the sides was terrible. Also the portions of the sides were quite small (again with the exception of the ratatouille, which was a nice quantity).

My conclusion is that since delivery overnight cannot be guaranteed and the packaging does NOT stay frozen for two days, it's not worth the substantial cost for these meals. I can get better meals for the same or less cost as take-out from a nearby high-end restaurant. This was a terrible disappointment.

Worst Excuse For Food Ever!!

"Our very thoughtful son gave us a small freezer full of this product. We have now tried 5 or 6 of the different dishes he sent; some bowls and some boil in bag. We eat very well normally; low sodium, low fat meats. This stuff was so bad that we have thrown out duplicates of the ones we tried and couldn't eat. Gourmet?? We DO know what gourmet food is. This is so bad, with the slimy, soggy sides to the crunchy, hard lentils and vegetables. We feel so bad that he spent several hundred dollars on this stuff. The meats were chewy, dry and tasteless. How does this company stay in business? And how do we tell our son how bad it is without hurting his feelings? "

Poor Customer Service

"As a 2017 Christmas gift we purchased a total of twelve meals for our son who is single and a military member stationed in NH. When we placed the order in late Nov, we specifically requested—both online and via a phone call to customer service—the order NOT be delivered until after Jan 01, 2018 because our son would not be home during the holidays. On Dec 19, however, I received an email from Home Bistro with a FedEx tracking number indicating the meals had been shipped and would arrive at our son’s apartment after he had already departed to spend the holidays out of state. I immediately notified HB of their screw up and was told either: 1) the food would just spoil while he was gone or 2) he could tell someone else about the shipment and they could have the food. Additionally, we were told by Home Bistro they would send out a second shipment of the same 12 meals after 01/01/2018, likely shipped Jan 2 and arriving to our son on Jan 5. Because of Home Bistro’s error, we had to reveal the gift to our son so that he could redirect the shipment (at his expense!!) to another military member so that the meals wouldn’t just spoil and go to waste. Here it is Jan 6 and no information on the second shipment of meals has been provided to me and despite me contacting Home Bistro to inquire what is the status, no one from Home Bistro has contacted me. "

Worst experience ever - small portions, poor quality

"I spent nearly $75 for 5 frozen meals and they were HORRIBLE. I tried 2 of them, and threw the rest away. The portions were ridiculously small, similar to an appetizer-sized meal. Even if I did eat all of it, which I didn't because it tasted so bad, I know I would have still been hungry. In addition to the small size, the quality of the food was very poor. The veggies were chewy and tasted old; the pasta and sauce was bland and tasteless; and overall, the meals tasted bland and texture was questionable. I will never, ever order anything from Home Bistro again. I really don't know how they stay in business. "

Expensive and nasty

"I tried multiple meals, $150 worth. I gave the $20+ cod dish to my dogs. The portion of soup was less than 1/2 a cup. The $20+ shrimp curry dish came with 4 small shrimp. I expected bigger portions and amazing taste for $20+ for meals and an "executive chef" but that wasn't the case. I would never order again!!! "

VERY disappointed

"After reading great reviews decided to try. First meal was blackened tilapia. The tilapia was mouth-burning (I often eat blackened fish or chicken), it was terrible. The broccoli was not good, the quinoa tasteless. We still have 4 meals left and I am considering tossing them. Terrible and disappointing meal."

"Home Bistro has revamped their whole menu. The food is now gourmet. I ordered the burrito's and the crusted chicken. The burrito's were so good, just enough spice and the chicken was moist and tender. I will def be a repeat customer"

"The package arrived somewhat damaged, but the food appeared frozen. The apple crisps were smashed, but proved to be the best tasting of all. The rest of it was so so. I thought that the portions were much smaller than those depicted in the catalog, and, because presentation is part of it, the food loses something when you heat it in its frozen state in plastic bags by boiling in water, and then attempt to reassemble it on a plate. I complained initially about the smashed crisps, and they offered to resend. Then later I wrote and critiqued several meals and never heard back. To add insult, I later learned that Home Bistro sold my address to another company and I began receiving catalogs from a firm I'd never been in touch with. I complained to Home Bistro and accused them of violating my privacy (the second firm confirmed that Home Bistro was the source of my personal information). I've demanded a complete refund and would like to advise others about this practice. For me, it was a big "zero" for Home Bistro all around: mediocre food taste, small portions, unappetizing appearance, and poor business ethics. "

"this was my first order from Home Bistro. Ordered different soups and numerous dinners. They shipped promptly. Received order in a very large cooler. It looked too big after I took the lid off. The cooler was 1/3 full only. They left off a good portion of my order. I also ordered a dessert and it was missing also. They actually showed a different dessert on the enclosed order form to substitute for the dessert I actually ordered. It was not enclosed either. They apparently changed my order without my knowledge. I immediately called and informed them my order was missing numerous items. They credited back my credit card on the missing items. The food I did receive was "okay" but not spectacular. For the price, the food was not worth it. I have had better frozen dinners from the supermarket. The soups were okay but Progresso soups are as good. Shipping was $24.95 on a $140.30 order (way to high). I gave this company a try but, I will not order from this company again. It is not worth it. "

"Great frozen prepared meals. You might wonder, as I did, why would you pay $12.99 (or more) plus dry-ice shipping for frozen dinners when Stoffers sells dinners for $3.59 at the supermarket. First, there's no comparison in quality. And second, the Home Bistro dinners aren't loaded with sodium and fat (the nutrition info is on the Web site). It's restaurant quality and, while not cheap, it's worth it if for no other reason than to keep a few quality meals in the freezer for those nights when there's no time and nothing else. Preparation and cleanup are fast and easy.

Everything we have tried has been really good. The sauces are especially tasty. I'd avoid the chicken fettucini alfredo, though; while good, the chicken is a little dry. The seafood newburg is recommended. My wife likes the pasta. I still haven't gotten around to the filet mignon with bearnaise sauce. Sounds good, though.

"Absolutely great.
The best frozen food I have ever had.
Heck some of the best prepaired food ever. Better than most restaurants. The instructions were easy to follow.
The preperation was VERY easy. If you can boil water you can have a gourmet meal at your convenience.The lobster scallop apetizer is to die for. The french toast and sausage was excellent . The portions were a little small in some cases but the qualitiy makes up for it.
I cannot say enough good about this merchant .
