"I purchased a Humane Contain pet containment system on line in early August, just before moving to a house without a suitable fence for containing my dog. I bought their top-of-the-line system, with their mid-range collar. It took me a little over a month to install the system with moving and all. Just before installing it, I put the collar on my dog so he could start "getting used to it." He broke it the first day. I shipped it back to the company for replacement, which did arrive in a reasonably timely fashion. I did have an extra collar, and proceeded to install the system, hand-burying approximately 1000 feet of wire. Once this was done, I again tested the system. It failed to produce a consistent signal, and would not, no matter what I did, deliver a shock on the collar as you approached the boundary wire. I called the company, and it was suggested that I use their batteries rather than the Duracell ones I had purchased. I ordered their batteries, and after about two weeks received them and tried them in the collars. There was no improvement. I again contacted the company. Every time I say "I contacted the company" I mean I made numerous telephone calls sometimes over several weeks, which for the most part either went voicemail and got no response or call back, or was routed to a person whose voicemail was full. Even calling back and asking to leave written messages did not get a call back. Only after repeated tries over many days were we able to reach someone.

Anyway, when I finally reached customer service, I was told to send back the transmitter and the collar (which had again broken after only one day of test use). After more than 2 weeks, I received replacements. These worked no better. I have now purchased a different system, which works fine, but High Tech Pet Products now refuses to allow me to return the product for a refund. In fact, they hung up the phone on my wife when she tried to discuss the subject, and on my inquiry sent an email denting the refund on the ground that more than 90 days have passed since purchase. (Ironically, this response came within a day of my email, by far the fastest response yet.) In light of the multiple returns and replacements and delays in getting customer service, I believe this return policy is unfair. I also believe the product is defective and of very poor quality.

I strongly warn everyone not to purchase this product or deal with this company. There are many better products on the market. Though Humane Contain may be cheap, it is no better than throwing your money in the garbage.

I have since tried the Dogtra product, which is of much higher quality, but returned that as well, as it was not as effective as I would have liked using it with the Humane Contain wire I already buried. Today we went ahead and had the Invisible Fence company install their system, which, though much more expensive than the others, does seem to be considerably better, and actually works like it is supposed to.

I have filed a BBB complaint against High Tech Pet in an attempt to get a refund.

"I am writing about a return issue on a door that we purchased from High Tech Pet Supplies. We ordered an electronic dog door. The door had numerous problems so we decided to send it back on 10/21/04. The door was over $450 and we only had it since August. On top of that it cost us $40.00 to send back to them. I have sent them numerous e-mails on the status of the return. They have since cut off all contact with me and will give me no answers as to the situation. I am out of the money and I have not had this door since October. My dog has urinated on the carpet numerous times as she was use to the dog door. She had no where else to go so she went on the floor in our house. She has also pooped numerous times as well. This is very frustrating cleaning up the messes knowing that if the door was not defective or if they would return a new one to us, this would not be happening. Also, we are in the process of selling our house and when she has accidents in the house, I have to go rent a Rug Doctor so that I can get the stain out. My dog is over 100 pounds so I am sure you can imagine it is not a pretty site when she does this. As I stated earlier, I have sent High Tech numerous e-mails and they refuse to contact me. Here is the last e-mail that they responded: Hello Marcella, I was just wondering if our replacement door was coming soon. I was told that it would ship in the middle of November and we still have not received it. Could someone please tell me the status of this? My dog is relieving herself all over the house and it is getting very old. We bought this door because my wife and I both work during the day and this was the way that she could go outside. Then, when the door broke, she could not get out anymore and now she has accidents in the house. This is getting very frustrating. Please let me know what is going on. Thanks.

"I purchased a training collar for a cat, unsure whether it would do what I needed it to do. Because it had a 60 guarantee I took a chance. It turns out it didn't work (the device DID work, but the tone did not deter the cat). So I requested an RMA. I received it, mailed the item back, and waited for a refund. After two months, I sent a series of three emails - each a week apart - asking politely for them to check on my refund. None of the emails was answered. I then went thru Yahoo, since they operate from Yahoo's site. A couple weeks have gone by and no refund. I'm now going to see if the credit card company can issue my credit."

"I purchased the HC-5000 Humane Contain invisible pet containment system from High Tech Pet Products, located in CA. I have to say I have never made a more unwise investment. The product is the biggest piece of junk I have ever had the misfortune of purchasing. I purchased it at the end of March. Unfortunately, due certain circumstances, I did not install the system until a little more than a month after receiving it.
It took about 3-4 weeks of my dog getting into the neighbor's yard and eating their cat's food, etc.. for me to realize that this system was just not doing the job. But,I had missed the 60 day money back guarantee. I have had two replacement systems sent to me and neither of them has performed any better. One of the transmitters just up and stopped working for no reason. Finally, they tried replacing the collar, however they did not send the rechargable collar which I had originally paid for. Now the collar has just up and stopped working. I have replaced the battery etc... I have contacted a lawyer. The store has stopped answering my emails. They just don't care. I believe this company is guilty of false advertisement. The way the product is advertised is very deceptive and just plain untrue. The 1500 foot perimeter of my system is well under the 6000 feet they claim. The only upside to this experience is that I had not yet gone to the trouble of completely burying the wire around the perimeter. Now I am considering other fencing companies. My brother-in-law has the Invisible Fence system and is happy with that one. DON'T PURCHASE FROM HIGH TECH PRODUCTS or any HUMANE CONTAIN PRODUCTS unless you want to get ripped off. My total loss in this company is $325.

"Your dogs are to precious to allow low quality products to protect them.

Horrible company. Worst customer service. Bad products.

I purchased the HUMANE CONTAIN Model HC-5000 Pro-Series Super System with a rechargeable (+$29) collar and 2 additional rechargeable collars.

1st problem - They got the order wrong - sent battery operated collars - took an additional week + to get the correct collars.

2nd problem - after working well for about 2 weeks after installation, the signal from the transmitter started to fade. I noticed this because static from the radio on AM stations faded when the transmitter signal started to fade. Sent the transmitter back and after 3 weeks (1 week for shipping, 1 week for processing, 1 more weeks for shipping) received a new unit.

3rd and 4th problems - After 1 1/2 weeks of the new transmitter working, noticed rechargeable collars were not working, and then the line break alarm went off on the transmitter. Made a test wire and determined the transmitter had gone bad again. False line break. Sent the unit with the collars back and asked for a complete refund.

5th problem - no refunds after 60 days. They refused to count the down time from shipping and processing and the week it took to install the product. All in all the product has worked for roughly 3 1/2weeks in the 4 months I have had the fence.

6th problem - Since no refund of purchase price was offered, I asked that replacements be sent. June 23, 2004 is when they signed for my returned package. It is now July 21, 2004 and they have not shipped any replacement parts as of this time.

7th problem - Talked with so called Customer service about where my replacement parts were. Was told they were shipped. Asked for the tracking number and they gave me the number of the initial March 23 shipment.

8th Problem - Called Customer service back and explained the tracking number mistake. Was transferred to "someone who could help me better" talked to voice mail that promised a prompt return call. No calls have been received.

In my opinion, this is a very poorly run, mom and pop company with low quality products. Shipping and receiving is slow, and customer service shows no concern for the customer. They hide behind arbitrary dates (after 60 days no refunds) to refuse to give your money back if you are dissatisfied with their products.

I believe you are better off going to your local retailer and buying a product that you can replace overnight if something goes wrong. Your dogs are to precious to allow low quality products to protect them. My dogs were picked up by the dog warden when my mother accidentally let them out when she was dog sitting for them and the fence had quit working. I wish I had purchased my fence from some other company.

Don’t be fooled by their sale price. Their one day only sale price has been the same price for at least the last 5 months.

"Do not do business with this company. They sent me a defective dog door. I was not able to get anybody to respond. Finally, when I did get a replacement it was another defective door. They are unscrupulous and unethical. I will never do business with them again. Check out their poor ratings on the BBB website -wish I had before I bought the door and wasted my money. "

"Had problems from the start with the quality of the product. Spent 2 FULL days on the phone trying to make contact. Finally got through and a replacement collar was sent...same problem. Now...no replys at all from emails or feedback forms for 2 weeks! At this point, would not recommend anyone purchasing products from this company. Will keep posting until the problem has been resolved. I agree with "vsandman". I think they may drag out any contact until the 60 day limit has expired...then they'll be happy to talk with you!!! It would seem to me that a business that has a contact link on the website would be certain that it was functioning properly to ensure maintaining their credibility. Not the case here."

"This seller has absolutely no support for their product.I was for months transferred to their "tech" dept. only to get a message that the mail box was full. They have answered only one of 40 e-mails, only to tell me that now the 60 day return date is past! I have filed complaints with the California Attorney General's Office, the FCC, and the BBB in California. Be aware that they refuse to send merchant evaluation forms as requested by Yahoo shopping."
